Dear my friends all around the tumblr.
I’m Korean and noticed that it seems like most of people translate “Dokkaebi” as “Goblin”. But the thing is that there is a huge difference between dokkaebi and goblin.
Dokkaebi has a human form. And although they have ability to summon anything they want they usually do not use them to harm others. These creatures love mischief and playing mean tricks on bad people.
However, the dokkaebi’s form quiet changed after the Japanese colonization. It turned into a image that looks like Japanese “Oni”.
This is because Japanese restricted Korean cultures and even banned using Korean language. And they tried to replace them to Japanese culture and they even forced Koreans to change their first&last name in to Japanese names. (I’m not blaming them for what they have done but just trying to explain how these things changed. No offence)
So what I want to say is that instead of translating Dokkaebi as Goblin. I wish people just call Dokkeabi as Dokkaebi. Goblin does not even have a human form. I mean,,,it look so different.
