India. Delhi:Qutb Minar, Mehrauli historical park, Lodi gardens, Purana Quila & Humayun’s Tomb. New Delhi might seem like a hell on Earth, or may not appear, depending on where you are in Delhi. During our stay we managed to be appalled at the filth and crush of old Delhi and Main Bazaar, take a stroll along the wide, yet stinking, avenues of New Delhi and visit a number of impressive historical monuments. About those places in the city that we have, I'll tell you in this and the following posts.
The complex Muslim religious monuments around the Qutb Minar is one of the most impressive sights of Delhi, belong to the dawn of the Muslim conquest of India, beginning of the heyday of the Delhi Sultanate in the 12nd century.
Qutb Minar itself is an impressive Tower of victory, the new Muslim conquerors of India, headed by the Sultan of Qutb-ud-Din started in 1193, after defeating last Hindu King of Delhi.
Around Coutu Minar is located several buildings, including the Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid-the oldest mosque in India, constructed in the late 12nd century.

Iron pillar is one of the wonders of the ancient world, created in the early 5th century a.d., it has still not been rust and decay, the researchers are not yet able to unravel the secret of this unique ancient Indian alloy. text in Sanskrit engraved on a column, dedicated to Emperor Čandragupte II.

200 metres from the Qutb Minar is the entrance to the historic park of Mehrauli, a collection of numerous picturesque ruins 15-16th centuries.

One of the nicest places in Delhi- Lodhi gardens, not only the complex Muslim Pashtun Lodhi dynasty tombs, which ruled in Delhi in the 15th century, but also a favorite place for picnics.
The fortress of Purana Qila , with its massive walls and gate was built by the Afghan Sher Shah of Delhi Shah, in his short time in Delhi, 1538-45 until the Mughal Emperor Humayun has knocked it out of India.

One of the most important monuments of Delhi, the Mughal Emperor Humayun's Tomb. The only place in New Delhi, which was visited by Obama and his wife were visiting the capital of India. A magnificent example of early Mughal architecture, was built in the mid-16th century Haji Begum, the eldest wife of Humayun, persiankoj.
This mix of Persian and Indian architecture marked the beginning of a large mogol′skomu style topped by the famous Taj Mahal.
And this is the mausoleum of the Haji Begum, the wife of Emperor Humayun
