Peugeot-Citroen recalls 100,000 cars for pedal woe

PARIS (AP): French automaker PSA Peugeot Citroen is recalling 100,000 cars across Europe to change accelerator pedals on two models designed and produced in a joint venture with Toyota.

France's largest carmaker said the recall involves Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 models produced in the Czech town of Kolin in the 50-50 venture with Toyota, which launched a massive recall of its own on Friday.

The recall is a "preventive" measure, said Jean-Marc Sarret, a spokesman for the French company, adding that there has been no evidence of accidents or safety problems linked to the pedals.

Owners of the two models will be notified by mail of the recall, which involves cars built between mid-2005 and mid-2009, said Sarret. The recall affects about 10 percent of all Peugeot Citroen cars in circulation, he added.

The spokesman said the recall came after reporters called with questions about the partnership and after Toyota, which manages the 50-50 partnership at the Czech plant, told Peugeot Citroen of the problem.

The French company is hewing its recall campaign to procedures initiated by Toyota, Sarret said. The plant produces about 330,000 cars each year - two-thirds of them for the French company, and the rest for Toyota.

The Japanese giant, the world's largest automaker, on Friday recalled 4.2 million cars and trucks on three continents because of a sticky gas pedal problem caused by condensation that builds up in the pedal assembly

PARIS - Syarikat pengeluar kereta PSA Peugeot Citroen memanggil semula 100,000 buah kereta di Eropah bagi mengganti pedal minyak untuk dua modelnya yang direka dan dikeluarkan bersama dengan Toyota.

Menurut syarikat itu, pemanggilan itu melibatkan Citroen C1 dan Peugeot 107 yang dikeluarkan di bandar Kolin, Republik Czech menerusi usaha sama dengan Toyota.

Sebelum ini, Toyota turut mengantung penjualan beberapa modelnya di Amerika Syarikat sebelum diperluas ke Eropah dan China berikutan masalah pedal minyak.

Syarikat Toyota mendapati terdapat masalah pedal minyak yang tersangkut pada karpet beberapa buah modelnya termasuk Camry.

Pedal minyak yang tersangkut itu menyebabkan kereta boleh memecut dengan tiba-tiba.

Jurucakap syarikat itu, Jean-Marc Sarret berkata, langkah itu merupakan satu tindakan pencegahan.

Menurutnya, setakat ini tidak ada bukti bahawa kemalangan berlaku disebabkan oleh pedal minyak.

Katanya, pemilik dua model kenderaan itu akan diberitahu mengenai pemeriksaan semula itu yang melibatkan model pada pertengahan 2005 dan pertengahan 2006.

Jurucakap tersebut menyatakan penarikan semula itu dibuat setelah pemberita-pemberita mempersoalkan usaha sama dengan Toyota di kilang di Republik Czech selepas syarikat Jepun itu menggantung penjualan beberapa buah modelnya. - Agensi

Kalau nak kata design bersama pun.. xde la design bersama sangat kot... enjin, gearbox, wiring harness semua toyota teknologi dari model toyota Aygo dan toyota yang supply part2 tu. PSA peugeot Citroen ni cuma design exterior untuk market diorang je.. so kalau toyota recall Toyota Aygo.. sah2 la model ni pun wajib kena recall gak..
