Sir Alex Ferguson has no doubts Cristiano Ronaldo will be able to handle flak and derision from opposition fans next season.
The Portuguese winger looks set for a rough ride at Premiership grounds across the country, having been vilified across the nation for his part in England's World Cup exit
Having reiterated that the 21-year-old winger will remain at Old Trafford next season, Ferguson insists Ronaldo will thrive on denigration from the stands - just as he did at this summer's World Cup.
"I haven't spoken to him since the World Cup, but there have been other players down the years who have had stick.
"David Beckham came back after the World Cup in 1998 and had it, while Eric Cantona had it all the time - everywhere he went.
"They can only boo for so long, and if you're playing well and winning, it quietens them down.
"There will be no problem with Cristiano and it certainly didn't affect him when he was booed at the World Cup. He reacted positively and played well. He's got a fantastic attitude and he's a really strong character."
Amid talk of continued interest in Ronaldo from La Liga giants Real Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia, Sir Alex again firmly denied talk of cashing in on the young star.
"Without any question, Ronaldo will be our player next season and for the rest of his contract," he said.
