Real Madrid rocked by UEFA signings shock
28.12.08 | tribalfootball.com
Real Madrid directors have been rocked that only one of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar or Lassana Diarra can be registered for the Champions League.
One director told Marca: "This cannot be true. If what Marca is reporting is true, then they'll kill us. What we have done is ridiculous!"
Real president Ramon Calderon, on his winter break in the Dominican Republic, was shocked by the stunning report and was immediately on the phone to his sports department, including directors Pedja Mijatovic and Miguel Angel Portugal, demanding an explanation. |

Juande Ramos Steps In To Stop Mijatovic Signing Liverpool's Pennant For Real Madrid
The Spanish champions' quest for a new winger has seen Juande Ramos challenge Predrag Mijatovic for the first time in a bid to stop the club wrapping up a deal to sign Jermaine Pennant, a report claims...
Juande Ramos has confronted Predrag Mijatovic and told him that he does not want Real Madrid to sign Jermaine Pennant from Liverpool and would rather focus on prising Antonio Valencia away from Wigan Athletic, according to Sport.
Los Merengues' new coach has opted to step in to prevent the club's sporting director continuing the chase for a player that he does not believe would fit in at the Bernabéu.
Mijatovic is believed to have not realised if the UEFA rules that mean that both Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Lassana Diarrà cannot be registered for the Champions League and Ramos does not want another mistake to be made.
The two winter arrivals have played for their previous clubs in the UEFA Cup and only one can play for Madrid in Europe and now the Spanish giants are weighing up whether to contest the law.
Ramos has made it clear that he wants to add a new right winger to his ranks, but he does not agree with Mijatovic's choice and has now said his piece in order to prevent a transfer going through.
Pennant is seen as a cheap option by Mijatovic and talks over a €3 million transfer have already taken place, with Reds' manager Rafa Benítez keen to see the back of a player he has used only three times this term.
Madrid's coach, though, is said to have concerns about the player's goalscoring record as well as matters concerning his life off the field that have seen him have several brushes with the police.
The report concludes that Antonio Valencia is Ramos' preferred option after Ashley Young was ruled out of the equation - having already played for Aston Villa in Europe - and he will ask the board to press ahead with an offer to Wigan instead.

Either Diarra Or Huntelaar, UEFA Tell Madrid
Real Madrid might well have signed both Lassana Diarra and Klaas-JanHuntelaar this winter but they will not both be playing in theChampions League next season.
Just a few hours after Los Blancoschief, Ram髇 Calder髇, said that he believes his club might be able tobend the rules, the European governing body has told AS that no such thing will happen.
Dueto the rules in the competition, the Spanish side can only register oneof their new players for the upcoming knockout stages, and UEFAspokesman, William Galliard, said there will be no festive gifts forReal Madrid.
"What is normal is written down in the laws, and Real Madrid will only be able to choose one player," he declared.
"Tochange a rule in the middle of a competition is something that shouldnot be done, because what Madrid are basically asking for is a new rule.
"Tomake an exception for Real Madrid would be to cater for individualneeds of a club and that would begin an endless chain of favours. Manychanges would be made, that would end up altering the spirit of thecompetition."
Despite ruling it out for this year though,Galliard did not completely rule out a change in the laws, that couldbe brought into effect for the next season.
"For anything to happen will have to wait until the end of the season," he mused.
"Itis something that we will be able to study then, but there is anunwritten rule that laws are not changed in the middle of competitions."

Real Madrid To Sign Jermaine Jenas From Tottenham?
The football world was shocked to learn last weekthat Real Madrid came close to signing Jermaine Pennant, theout-of-favour Liverpool winger.
And now, according to the Daily Mail, they are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur regarding Jermaine Jenas.
The tabloid newspaper reports that the Spanish giants, now coachedby ex-Spurs boss Juande Ramos, have already inquired as to the25-year-old's availability.
And while the Lilywhites would like to dismiss any and all suitorsstraight up, the lack of funds in Harry Redknapp's transfer kitty couldforce him to sell some of his more valuable stars.
It is thought that Jenas, who joined Tottenham from Newcastle Unitedin 2005, could command a fee of around |
