SUGIZO is known not only for his great talents in music, but also for his big heart and concern for others. When his friend and fellow musician, Mick Karn, the bassist of the British new wave band, Japan, was diagnosed with cancer last month, SUGIZO set out to aid his friend in need. SUGIZO has announced that he has recorded a new song, entitled, “MISSING LINK” that is available for download in return for a donation. All procedes from the track will go to the MK fund to help fund the expensive medical treatment.
Here is the message from SUGIZO himself:
I really hope to help Mick in even a small way, so I created a song at an amazingly fast speed to earn donations for him.
I took the song “MISSING” that was included in my first solo album, and remade and re-recorded it according to my current sensibilities. It turned into something entirely new, and is now called “MISSING LINK.” This ambient music seems to soar to the heavens, It contains beautiful examples of Mick’s breath and vitality, and I hope that you all get a copy and experience the world of the song. And from the bottom of my heart, I pray that Mick gets better so that we can play “MISSING LINK” together on stage! – SGZ
We are offering this track as a download and you can decide how much you would like to donate for receiving the track. Please select from the box below. All donations received will go directly to the MK fund. Our heartfelt thanks to Sugizo for this beautiful track.
It’s really amazing for SUGIZO to help his friend out like this. Be sure to donate to the MK fund if you can! I’m sure it would mean a lot to both Mick and SUGIZO. Hopefully he will be able to get through this with all of the support of his friends and fans!
Aya Ueto to star in drama based on blind musician (co-starring Keisuke Koide)
Actress Aya Ueto (24) will star in a Fuji TV drama special titled "Ai wa Mieru ~ Zenmou Fuufu ni Yadotta Chiisana Inochi," in which she will play a blind character for the first time. The story is based on singer-songwriter Satoko Tatemichi (28), who has been blind since birth.
The drama is adapted from the book "Ai wa Mieru ~ Zenmou Fuufu no Takaramono," which covers Tatemichi's life as she developed her musical gift despite her blindness. She made her major label debut last year with the song "Takaramono." While working on her music, Tatemichi also married a blind man in 2004, and she gave birth to a son in 2006.
In the drama, Ueto's character is named Juri Tatematsu. Like Tatemichi, the character gets married and gives birth to a child, despite opposition from people around her. While raising the child, she continues pushing towards her dream of becoming a professional musician. Her blind husband, a guitarist and masseur, is being played by Keisuke Koide (26).
Ueto and Koide worked with staff from the Tokyo Metropolitan Welfare Association for the Blind, spending a month training for their parts. The two also visited Tatemichi and her husband to learn about their lives.
Fuji TV plans to broadcast the "Ai wa Mieru" drama this September.
