Japan'sfirst lady Miyuki Hatoyama, who has made headlines with tales of heralien encounters, drew fresh media attention on Monday — for being afashion ambassador for humble blue jeans.
The 66-year-old wifeof Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama won the oddly named "Best JeanistAward," a prize given to denim-clad celebrities, together withmusicians and artists including Taiwan actorJerry Yan.
Miyuki"is wearing jeans in a classy but revolutionary style," industry groupthe Japan Jeans Association said, adding that the television lifestyleguru projects a positive spirit representing true denim style.
Miyukisaid she and her husband were wearing jeans when they first met inCalifornia while he was studying at the prestigious StanfordUniversity. They married in 1975 after she divorced her previoushusband.
"This is the prize I have long wished to win,"Hatoyama, wearing traditional blue jeans, told a news conference. "I'ma jeans lover. I'm always putting on jeans as they're easy to wear."
Miyuki has previously said her soul once travelled to Venus on a triangular-shaped UFO, in a book publishedlast year. Dubbed "Mrs Occult" by Time magazine, her colourful remarkshave made headlines as far afield as India, Israel, Britain and theUnited States.
Taiwanese star Jerry Yan won the internationalcompetition, while Japanese pop singer Koda Kumi, popular at home andacross Asia, was awarded the general competition prize.
Amongother Japanese winners were KAT-TUN boyband member Kazuya Kamenashi,girl band SPEED and rock and roll signer and TV celebrity Daigo.
Theaward, co-sponsored by the Jeans Association and the economy, trade andindustry ministry, marks the beginning of the Tokyo Fashion Week thatwill be held in the Japanese capital until 25 October.

I'vebeen talking about some blunders that happened during the wake thesefew days. Talking about blunders, I recall one story. It's inevitablethat we make blunders but with the reputation of an artiste at stake,it can be especially embarrassing.
Jerry Yan attended a Japaneseceremony recently and received a Super Idol category Award. After theceremony, the Organizers kindly arranged for him to go shopping at abranded shop. Initially, they wanted to clear the store for him but heinsisted not to. As he has always maintained that he was like anyaverage Joe.
As this was no made public, the Organizers werecautious. On the day itself, besides the few reporters, there weren'tmany fans around. Or else the small store would be jam-packed.
Though everything seemed fine, our Mr. Handsome still met with problems.
"Ilooking around the store for a long time but I didn't see anything I'dlike. But they were so friendly and it didn't seem nice that I didn'tbuy anything,"Jerry Yan said. "But the problem is if I just buyanything, it didn't seem to be true to myself. Anyway, the fans wouldread the report and they might buy the same thing so I have aresponsibility."
Jerry Yan's perfectionist manner shows upagain. Anyway as long as something touches on perfection orresponsibility, to our Mr. Handsome - shopping is no longer such asimple matter.
He took a long time, kept choosing this and that.He was on the brink of hopelessness when the Heavens showed him grace.He finally spotted a leather bag that he like a lot.
"I'm finally saved." He took to it the mirror and it looked great.
Jerry asked the Interpreter to ask the Japanese salesperson for the price.
After the salesperson heard what the interpreter said, she appeared very respectful and pointed to a man who was dressed trendily. And she further 'explained' to the interpreter. After that she ran to that man and bowed to him and pointed over to Jerry's side.
Jerrysaw that man turn around, nodding politely and smiling. Our Mr.Handsome was also very gracious and he smiled and nodded as well.
"I was thinking that he should be a boss or something from the way he is dressed."
After a while, the saleslady came with the Interpreter and bowed deeply to Jerry.
"So how is it? How much is it?"
The Interpreter seemed ill at ease, after some hesitation he finally said.
"That customer over there said that he left his leather bag outside when he was trying his clothes but you took it away."
Jerry's face turned a crimson red and wished that there was a hole for him to hide.
He immediately returned the bag to the Interpreterand he gave it back to the saleslady who returned it to that man. Afterthat man got back his bag, Jerry gave him a very deep bow. The Japanesecustomer was also very polite, he smile and bowed back. After all that,he left quietly without any fanfare.
The reporters that were a distance away and didn't seem to notice.
"Ohno! That was so embarressing. I even took the bag to the mirror to havea look, Big Brother Hou!" Jerry was laughing at himself. "Do you thinkI was really so silly?"
I nodded my head.
But it's notthat our Mr. Handsome was so very silly but I felt that the Japanesecustomer was so gracious, low-key and very considerate in his manner.That is truly very gentlemanly and something worthy of emulation.

Itwas reported that the cooperation of Jerry and JVR was terminatedyesterday, and Jerry's plan to film a drama with Kimura Takuya alsodidn't push through due to scheduling problem.
