Ljungberg - Second goal would have clinched it for us
Barcelona 2-1 Arsenal
Champions League Round F

By Richard Clarke
It is incredible to think that, despite playing with 10 men for the vast majority of the Champions League Final, Arsenal had a couple of clear chances to go 2-0 ahead.
Had Thierry Henry and Freddie Ljungberg scored second-half opportunities to add to Sol Campbell? 37th-minute header, then Ars?e Wenger? side would surely have lifted the Champions League trophy for the first time. For the Swede, the misses were to be prove crucial.
?ust to get one of those in would have been game over,? said Ljungberg afterwards. ?hat is quite hard for us. Of course they scored two goals and deserved to win but I think we played really, really well with one less on the pitch against Barcelona.
?e were quite tired. It was hard to come back and sprint [after their first goal] because it was a big blow. But before that we thought we controlled it quite well. They had a lot of possession but they did not create anything really, really good.?
Like many in the Arsenal camp, Ljungberg was unhappy with the two major incidents in the game. The decision in the 17th minute to send off Jens Lehmann rather than play on and allow Ludovic Giuly? goal to stand then the failure to flag Samuel Eto? offside when he powered through grab Barca? equaliser.
?he contact [from Jens] we are not disputing at all,? said Ljungberg. ?ut he could have let it go and Giuly would have scored. Then it probably would not have been a sending off and it would have been 11 v 11 still. But that is not up to me.
?hat I am disappointed about is the offside goal. When I was on the pitch I accepted it but now afterwards I am told that it was offside. It feels quite hard to be running around one man less against Barca and concede a goal that is offside. But we can? change that now. |

sori, lambat masuk dalam discussion. seriously, aku lihat 2 faktor kekalahan arsenal dalam cl.
1. leman kena buang padang; sepatutnya budibicara pengadil bagi kat kuning jer.
2. gol pertama eto'o tu offside. wenger pun cakap cam tuh. pengulas pun cakap cam tuh. diulang tayang beberapa kali gol tuh nampak betul offside.

Referee regrets Lehmann red card
Hauge could have let Barca's goal stand and not sent off Lehmann
Referee Terje Hauge has admitted he may have acted too quickly in sending off Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann during Barcelona's Champions League triumph.
Hauge dismissed Lehmann in the 18th minute for fouling Samuel Eto'o, with Ludovic Giuly's resulting effort ruled out as Hauge had blown for a free-kick.
"I would have liked to have taken a few more seconds before I made a decision," Hauge told a Norwegian newspaper.
"If I'd done that, I could have given a goal and given a yellow card as well."
In other circumstances I would perhaps have done something different with Lehmann
Fifa president Sepp Blatter criticised the referee's decision to send off Lehmann.
He told BBC Radio Five Live: "My opinion is that, when in certain actions - and not only in front of the goalmouth, but everywhere - he should let the advantage, finish the action and then he can come back and whistle.

Agony eased for Arsenal as Henry says: 'I'm staying'
By Matt Hughes
ARSENAL扴 Champions League heartache will be soothed today by the news that Thierry Henry is ready to commit his future to the club. It is understood that a new four-year contract has been agreed in principle, with Henry preparing to announce his intentions and put pen to paper.
After prevaricating for most of the season, Henry is ready to end speculation over a move to Barcelona, which may explain the strangely positive mood of David Dein, the Arsenal vice-chairman, when he landed at Gatwick in the early hours of yesterday after the defeat by Barcelona in Paris.
Henry had pledged to announce his decision before the start of the World Cup on June 9 but has resolved to put Arsenal抯 fans out of their misery early, revealing his intentions today and signing the new deal before joining up with the France World Cup squad next week.
After agonising for many months, he came close to indicating his intentions on Arsenal抯 return flight from Paris, with sources close to the player confirming that his emotional reference to unfinished business should be interpreted as affirmation of his intention to stay.
揥e are sorry not to bring back the cup but we gave it our best out there, |
