Start of news
Like KAT-TUN or Arashi, NEWS is a group of bishonen from the famous production company, Johnny's Enterntainement. In 2003, the band is formed with 9 members. The leader Yamashita Tomohisa, Tegoshi Yuya, Masuda Takahisa, Kato Shigeaki, Koyama Keiichiro, Nishikido Ryo and the former members Kusano Hironori, Uchi Hiroki and Moriuchi Takahiro. There's currently only the 6 first members of the list in the group. At the beginning, the name of the group is writing NewS – and not NEWS – until the second single. The meaning is North, East, West, South, to show that they come from all over Japan.
In november 2003, the 1st single is released, NEWS Nippon. It's a limited edition and the official song of the World Championship of Volleyball in Japan. For unknown reasons, Takahiro Moriuchi leaves NEWS and the JE. In 2004, Kibou ~Yell~ is the official song of the Olympics Game of Athens and ranks 1st in Oricon. Merited success for this joyful and lively song which stays the biggest sale with almost 400,000 copies sold. The 3rd single, Akaku Moyuru Taiyou is released some months later and becomes also 1st in Oricon Ranking. Fans are lucky to see them in live with KAT-TUN and Ya-Ya-Yah in the Summary 2004 tour. In the end of 2004, they begin their 1st solo tour « NEWSnow Concert ». 2005 is announced as successful as the last year for the bishonen. The 4th and 5th singles, Cherish and TEPPEN, are also ranked 1st. Their 1st album, Touch, is released soon after and has the same success. A new tour begins, Nippon East to West Spring Concert. Even though eveything was doing well for the group, Hiroki Uchi is suspended in july for underaged drinking (it's not a subject to make fun of in Japan !!!). They continue the adventure with 7 members. 2006 begins with the tour A Happy NewS Year. A new single is announced for march.
But at the end of january, Hironori Kusano is also suspended for underaged drinking. There are now 6 members and they have to re-record the new single (firstly recorded with Hironori Kusano). This title, Sayaendou, is the theme of the One Piece movie. The PV is replace by movie's scenes. Despite this troubles the single is also ranked 1st. After the NEWS Spring Tour 2006, Johnny's suspends the group for the rest of the year to make forget the incident. The 6 members not concerned with the drinking problems can continue their solo careers.
Rebirth
2007 announces the rebirth of the group. They appear in the Johnny's Coutdown 2006-2007 without Uchi and Kusano, demoted to Trainees, rank under majors. In march, their 7th single (but the 1st since the comeback), Hoshi wo Mezashite, is released. It becomes the theme song for the japanese version of Happy Feet. Tegoshi dubs Mumble, the hero. In november, they release simultaneously the single weeeek and the album Pacific. Do we need to say that they both rank 1st and weeeek passes over 375,000 copies sold. After this album, the new tour, NEWS CONCERT TOUR Pacific 2007-2008 begins, with their 1st Tokyo Dome concert as highlight. The single Taiyou no Namida is released in february 2008 as theme song of the Kurosagi movie. This title, with a different sound as usual, has a great success. In may and october, the next 2 singles are released, Summer Time and Happy Birthday, 2 cool and joyful songs, type of songs the group does pretty well. In november, we discover the 3rd album Color followed by the excellent NEWS Party Diamond 2008-2009 tour. What will do NEWS in 2009, a group who, except its internal problems, only knows a merited success ?
You understand, I hope, with this article, that NEWS is not only a group for bishonen here for eyes pleasure. Even if some of their songs are basics, they're joyful and cheerful, what we all need. Like Taiyou no Namida, NEWS explores other kind of songs, for our greatest pleasure. Their fame is still increasing and who knows where they'll go if they continue like that...
Members
Yamashita Tomohisa : The leader of the group also called Yamapi. An article in the next issue will focuse on him.
Ryo Nishikido : He's the shadow leader of NEWS, title he won by learning most of choregraphies to the others. His nickname is Ryo-chan due to his looks and height during his Junior days. But he became one of the most popular Juniors in Kansai, his natal region. He's also a member of the group Kanjani8, the funny group of the Johnny's Entertainment, with only Kansai native members. Besides his two groups, he has a more an more thriving acting career in dramas. After some dramas, he attracts attention in Teru Teru Kazoku and gets an award.
In 2005, comes the drama Ichi Rittoru no Namida, which will be an important role for him. In 2008, it's the recognition with Last Friends and Ryusei no Kizuna and he gets new awards. Despite his big heart and his touching personality, Ryo unfortunately has a huge failing : the way he treats others, with his words and actions he can hurt. Moreover, he had a fight with Ueda of KAT-TUN and don't miss to tease him whenever he can. On the contrary, he's always there for his friends like Yamapi, with whom he has a deep friendship. He also appreciates Uchi who was with him in the 2 groups before he got fired and was sad after the incident.
Keiichiro Koyama : Here is the oldest member of the group, it's maybe for this reason he acts like the mother of the others, who let them pampered with pleasure (I don't think this is correct but I hope you get the meaning ^^'' ). Before NEWS, he was in other groups, BAD, J-Support and K.K.Kity with Shige and get along very well with him. Koyama likes talking and always wants to make others laugh without taking himself seriously. He doesn't have a great acting career but played in Kurosagi, Yukan Club ans Lost Time Life. He also was in the japanese version of the musical comedy High School Musical.
Takahisa Masuda : He's the little glutton of NEWS. Indeed, Masu loves eating. But happily for him, we're more interested by his singing and acting skills. And he's talentuous. He joined JE at 12 and became part of Kis-My-Ft before joining NEWS. During the hiatus of the group, he formed with Tego the duet Tegomass. After some parts, we really noticed him in Gachi Baka, with Tego. Later, he played in Dance Drill and Waraeru Koi wa Shitakunai. This year, he plays with Nakamaru of KAT-TUN in the drama Rescue. Physically, even though he has a baby face and big smile with dimples, Masu is quite muscular and Shige is jealous of him (for that).
Shigeaki Kato : Now, the little genius of the group. Shige is well known for his cleverness and would have chosen to study law in Aoyama because it seemed to be the most impressive. Except studying, he likes composing songs, writing his blog under the penmane Wagahai after the book I am a cat of Natsume Soseki and also because he loves cats (unlucky him, he's allergic !!!). He also likes western music and became a reference for the group. He has the same career that Koyama. For dramas, he began by little parts and since 2006 they're more important like in Kakure Karakuri, Sugata Sanshiro and Hokaben.
Yuya Tegoshi : Pure kawai attitude. His childish face and beautiful smile make him very endearing. Tego became a member of NEWS only 9 months after he joined JE which is a record. Unlike the others, he didn't became famous during his Junior days and immediatly made his debuts. Even if he was a bit affected by that in the beginning, his voice bringed him fans quickly. During the hiatus, he became the other part of the duet Tegomass. A lot of people know this bishonen thanks to the drama My Boss My Heo with Nagase Tomoya, member of the group TOKIO. Since, he played other roles in Gachi Baka!, Hyoten 2006 and Shabake where he has the lead role.
Tego is often blamed beacause he shows-off a little too much. But, he's not helped : his parents hung on photos of him everywhere !!!! His favorite idole has always been Yamapi, even before joining Johnny's. Now he still respects him but also considers him like a rival.
Former members
Hiroki Uchi : He wanted to play baseball but instead joined the merciless world of Johnny's. Before his suspension, he was a member of NEWS and Kanjani8. He made his comeback on stage in 2007 but didn't return to the groups. People wonder if he'll return one day.
In 2008, he made a comeback in dramas with the leading role of the mini drama Isshun no Kaze ni Nare in which Ryo also played for the greatest joy of the 2 friends. Then, he got a part in Osen. In the end of the year, he gave solo concerts and took part in the Countdown. Now, it's difficult to know what the producers want to do with him, a solo career or a comeback in a group ? Time will show.
Hironori Kusano : The second member suspended for alcohol drinking. Before NEWS, he also was a member of K.K.Kity with Koyama and Shige. He made a comeback with Uchi in 2007 in Playzone 2007 Change2 Chance. But he had bad luck : a member of Playzone took drugs canceling releases of a CD and a DVD. Unlike Uchi, he didn't have activities since. He would have been in the US to improve his english.
Takahiro Moriuchi : After the first single, he realized it was not for him and leaved the group. Since 2005, he's the singer of the rock group ONE OK ROCK. He's the son of Shinichi Mori, a great singer of Enka, a popular music genre.

Follow up to Rina @ DBSK's concert
Tomohisa Yamashita aka Yamapi (leader of popular JPOP group NEWS) has a sister that loves TVXQ/ DBSK / Tohoshinki. The sister is Yamashita Rina and she wrote on her personal blog on how awesome of a time she had at the TVXQ Concert in Saitama.
Yamapi and Yamashita Rina attended the concert with their mother, who's also a big fan of TVXQ. While Rina is a big fan of Jaejoong and Micky, her mother is a big fan of Yunho. Yamashita stated that she waited forever for the concert and that it was 3 full hours of great entertainment. She also noted that all the boys are very handsome and they have great vocal talent. She wrote that she felt bad for Junsu because he's performing on his leg even though he hurt it not too long ago.
