Dr Mahathir Sudah Sedar Selepas Pembedahan

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 Sept (Bernama) -- Bekas perdana menteri Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad telah sedar selepas menjalani pembedahan pintasan jantung semalam, kata anaknya, Datuk Mirzan Mahathir.

"Ya...jam (waktunya) saya tak tahu sangat, kena tanya IJN," katanya kepada kepada pemberita di lobi Institut Jantung Negara di sini pada pukul 3.50 petang.

Para doktor dipercayai sedang menjalankan pemeriksaan lanjut terhadap Dr Mahathir selepas beliau sedar dan satu kenyataan rasmi dijangkja dikeluarkan oleh IJN kemudian.

Sebelum ini, IJN berkata para doktor berpuas hati dengan perkembangan kesihatan beliau selepas pembedahan selama lima jam bermula 9.30 pagi semalam.

Bekas perdana menteri berusia 81 tahun itu kini dalam keadaan stabil di Unit Rawatan Rapi.

Ditanya sama ada Dr Mahathir dah boleh bercakap, Mirzan berkata "ya".

Beliau kemudian meminta diri untuk masuk semula ke wad.

Semalam, anak perempuan Dr Mahathir, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, berkata pembedahan pintasan jantung bapanya berjalan lancar seperti yang dirancangkan.

Pembedahan pintasan jantung itu adalah yang kedua dijalani oleh Dr Mahathir selepas yang pertama pada 24 Jan 1989 ekoran satu serangan jantung.

"It is definitely with our prayers that Tun Dr. M would recover soon. I am one of the younger generation of Malaysians, and since I was born (I was born in 1981, the year Tun became PM), the Prime Minister throughout my schooling life is Tun. And it is definitely with my utmost respect of what Tun has done for our nation. The vision that Tun has provided has definitely been marvellous and I really hope that Tun would be able to recover soon.

Without Tun's contribution, the Malaysia that we live in would be different. I might not be able to go from Padang Besar to JB within 7 hours or so. I would still need to wait for a long time for ferry to go to Penang island. I might still need to be stuck in jams to go to a sardine packed airport in Subang. I might never have witnessed Commonwealth Games or F1 race in Malaysia. etc etc...

Tun has definitely brought revolutionary changes to Malaysia. I still remember when I was studying abroad and students from various countries, esp. those developing nations in Africa and Latin America would tell me how much they admire Tun. They always say that how they wish they would have a Prime Minister/President like Tun.

And it is definitely my prayers, as well as many other Malaysians and foreigners alike that Tun would recover soon, and be back in pink of health. "

MEDIA STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Institut Jantung Negara, 6 September.... YABhg Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad has continued to make good progress into the second day of his post-bypass surgery treatment at the Institut Jantung Negara (IJN).

Since 2.10pm yesterday Tun Dr. Mahathir has been breathing on his own without respiratory support and is fully conscious, alert and able to converse with his family members.

Tun Dr. Mahathir has been started on liquid diet since this morning.

After 48-hours of close monitoring by doctors and nurses at the Intensive Care Unit, doctors are satisfied with his progress. He is currently undergoing intensive physiotherapy to optimise his respiratory function. In addition Tun Dr. Mahathir is also doing light exercises of his arms and legs. His vital parameters continue to be stable.

However, Tun Dr. Mahathir will remain warded at the ICU for continued observation.

IJN will issue updates as and when there is significant change in Tun Dr. Mahathir抯 condition. Visitations continue to be confined to immediate family members only.
