Song Jae Rim Joins Lee Jin Wook and Moon Chae Won in “Goodbye Mr. Black” kokoberry September 18, 2015

On September 18, a representative from SM C&C revealed to news outlet TV Report, “Song Jae Rim has been confirmed for SBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Goodbye Mr. Black.’”
“Goodbye Mr. Black” involves a revenge story like that of “The Count of Monte Cristo.” Based on a comic book of the same name, the drama will cover Cha Ji Won (Black)’s tragic story of being betrayed by his friend and his subsequent quest for vengeance. The original comic book was written by Hwang Mi Na.
Song Jae Rim will portray Seo Woo Jin who is the editor-in-chief of a small publishing company. His character boasts impressive credentials as he graduates at the top of his class with a double major in law and mass communication. Apparently, he is an idealist who believes in the power of the public.
As for his co-stars, Lee Jin Wook will act as the titular Mr. Black (Cha Ji Won) who is always optimistic until he gets betrayed by his best friend. Following the betrayal, he focuses on getting revenge. Also interesting is his job as an officer in the UDT (Underwater Demolition Team) for the Navy SEALs. Moon Chae Won’s character Swan is a bit unrefined yet funny and vivacious.
The drama will be helmed by director Lee Chang Min of “Birth of a Beauty” and writer Moon Hee Jung of “I Miss You.”
“Goodbye Mr. Black” will air following “The Village” which will air after “Yong Pal” ends its run.
Are you anticipating this upcoming drama?

Kim Kang Woo Joins Moon Chae Won and Lee Jin Wook in Goodbye Mr. Black
Casting is coming along nicely for upcoming SBS Wed-Thurs drama Goodbye Mr. Black, otherwise known as Moon Chae Won and her hotties. The network hit ratings gold with currently airing medical revenge drama Yongpal, it’s likely hoping to retain the same audience for corpse mystery The Village, and after that dish out another serving of revenge with Goodbye Mr. Black. Or maybe The Village will have revenge in it as well, LOL. For now Goodbye Mr. Black is revenge set in the world of navy underwater demolition, or maybe that’s just the starting point setting to get the ball rolling.
The titular Mr. Black will be played by Lee Jin Wook, who is certainly indefatigable with drama roles after recently wrapping up weekend drama The Time I Loved You, while Moon Chae Won makes her much awaited drama land return as the plucky leading lady. Song Jae Rim is in talks as a supporting male lead, and even before he’s confirmed the production has just added Kim Kang Woo to the cast. Kim Kang Woo and revenge drama sounds like a match made in heaven, regardless of him playing the good or bad guy since he excels at both equally. Here he’ll be playing the director of a resort, while Song Jae Rim is up for the role of newspaper editor.
Directing Goodbye Mr Black is veteran SBS PD Lee Chang Min who helmed Giant, Midas, and Birth of a Beauty, while adapting the original manhwa story into the drama is the screenwriter Moon Hee Jung who wrote Missing You (I Miss You), Can You Hear My Heart, Glorious Day, Last Scandal of My Life, and Stairway to Heaven.

Goodbye, Goodbye Mr. Black
Oh no, bad news in dramaland: We might not get to see the new revenge drama Goodbye Mr. Black. The series was being planned for SBS’s winter Wednesday-Thursday timeslot following Village: Secret of Achiara (which follows Yong-pal), but now SBS has dropped the series from its lineup. The broadcaster is saying that Goodbye Mr. Black was never confirmed for that timeslot to begin with, but casting was well underway with the expectation that it would air on SBS in early December.
Representatives from both the drama’s production company Yigim Productions and SBS confirmed that the show has been dropped from that timeslot. Details remain vague on what the two parties disagreed on, but a representative from SBS stated, “The broadcaster and the production company had differing opinions on the direction of the production, and an agreement couldn’t be reached.” Yeah, that much we could deduce.
The drama is a manhwa adaptation that stars Lee Jin-wook as a man who is betrayed by his best friend and comes back to seek revenge. Moon Chae-won is the woman he fake-marries to create his cover identity, and Kim Kang-woo and Song Jae-rim were the latest supporting cast additions. It makes me extra sad that a drama with a cast like that is having trouble getting on the air, and I’m dying to know what happened to suddenly make SBS drop it in the middle of casting and pre-production. It’s certainly possible that Goodbye Mr. Black will work things out with SBS for a later timeslot or move on to another network entirely, though hopefully it won’t be delayed so long that cast changes occur.
Goodbye Mr. Black, it’s not goodbye forever, right? We’ll see you someday?
