Tevez: I will succeed
West Ham United striker Carlos Tevez has insisted he will succeed in the Premiership, and rejected talk he could move abroad in the January transfer window.
The 22 year-old Argentina international completed a transfer deadline day move to the Hammers in August along with compatriot Javier Mascherano, though since then the club have failed to win a single game.
But Tevez insisted he would come good, and reproduce the form he showed in helping Corinthians to the Brazilian league title last season.
"I have come to Europe for a lot of things. The first is to prove I can play here, having shown what I am capable of in South America," he told the Sunday People.
"I am convinced things will work out for me here - it is just a matter of time.
"I'm here for the long-term. I want to be a success in the Premiership and I am not one of those players who throws in the towel easily.
"I am very stubborn and that's why it hurts so much when I read that I can go in the January transfer window. That is nonsense.
"Me and Javier are receiving the support of all our team-mates at West Ham and if I hadn't believed in this West Ham project, I would not have come here," he added.
West Ham United currently lie 16th in the Premiership and travel to Portsmouth next Saturday.

Iceland offer for West Ham
West Ham could be at the centre of a takeover battle after receiving a formal takeover approach from Eggert Magnusson, the Icelandic businessman and head of the country's football federation, the Daily Telegraph can reveal.
Magnusson, who is also a member of the Uefa executive committee, is heading a bid which values the East London club provisionally at £75 million.
If successful, the takeover could bring to an end months of uncertainty over the future ownership of the club.
Sources in Iceland confirmed last night that Magnusson is "interested" in making an offer for the club and it is understood an outline proposal is already being considered by the West Ham board.
They are now waiting to see if the club will give them permission to start examining the club's accounts ahead of making a formal offer.
The emergence of Magnusson's interest raises the prospect of a full-scale bidding war for control of Upton Park, though it is believed a rival approach from the Iranian businessman Kia Joorabchian is becoming increasingly doubtful.
Joorabchian says he is still weeks away from making a bid. Yet behind the scenes, he is still trying to gain the backing of the Israeli property entrepreneur, Eli Papouchado.
But with the team struggling on the pitch and manager Alan Pardew calling for an end to the disruptive speculation, West Ham's patience is running out.
Magnusson, 59, has appointed the former Football League chairman Keith Harris, head of the investment bank Seymour Pierce, to oversee the takeover approach.
Harris recently advised Randy Lerner, owner of the Cleveland Browns American Football team, on his £56m acquisition of Aston Villa and Michael Wilde's takeover of Southampton.
It is understood the Magnusson bid also has the support of a large and respected City bank as well as the global sports marketing giant IMG.
Icelandic sources told the Daily Telegraph that Magnusson was prepared to put in around £40m of his own money to fund the bid with the rest coming from a mix of debt and what is known in the City as "quasi-debt". This is a mix of equity and borrowing.
They have also agreed to take on the club's debts of more than £20m giving the bid an enterprise value of about £100m.
Yesterday, West Ham announced they had turned around losses of £5m in 2005 to post pre-tax profits of £6m for 2006.

Hammers dealt transfer blow Tue, Oct 10 2006 10:51
Alan Pardew's hopes of signing Blackburn ace Lucas Neill have been rocked after European champions Barcelona renewed their interest.
The Australia international has made clear his intention to quit Ewood Park when his contract expires at the end of the season, with Liverpool also in the hunt.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez failed in a deadline day bid for the defender in the last transfer window and is sure to return in January, while Hammers chief Pardew confirmed his admiration for the World Cup star more recently.
However, news that Spanish giants Barca retain an interest, having been impressed with Neill's displays in the World Cup, is sure to prove tempting.
Barca assistant Johan Neeskens said: "We have signed some great defenders, but things can change in a year and I know that Frank Rijkaard (Barcelona coach) is following this player very closely."
The Catalan club recruited Lilian Thuram and Gianluca Zambrotta during the close season to bolster their Champions League winning squad. |

West Ham's Ferdinand arrested over alleged assault
Ferdinand arrested over assault
LONDON, Oct 13 (Reuters) - West Ham United defender Anton Ferdinand has been arrested after an alleged assault outside a nightclub in east London.
The 21-year-old younger brother of England international Rio was formally arrested when he attended a police station on Thursday. The alleged assault took place early on October 2.
A Scotland Yard spokesman 'a man in his 20s' had been bailed until next month.
'We were called to a disturbance outside a nightclub and a subsequent allegation of assault was reported to police,' a police spokesman said on Friday.
'A man in his 20s attended an east London police station in connection with the allegation. He has been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed to return on a date in November, pending further inquiries.'
Ferdinand was part of England's Under-21 team which beat Germany 3-0 on aggregate on Tuesday to reach the European Under-21 championship next year. |
