http://cinematoday.jp/image/N0018205_l
Local heartthrob Kimura Takuya (36) joined Hollywood counterpart Josh Hartnett (30) and Korean star Lee Byung Hun (38) last night for the world premiere of "I Come With The Rain" in Tokyo. The actors were in Roppongi at the Tokyo Midtown complex for the event, also enjoyed by an invited audience of about 1,000. The movie is directed by Vietnamese-born French director Tran Anh Hung, who is currently working on the eagerly awaited movie version of Murakami Haruki's cult novel "Noruwei no Mori" (Norwegian Wood). It is scheduled to open in theaters on June 6. SMAP's Kimura talked about the tensions of filming in one of the more unsavory areas of the Philippines under the watchful eye of the local military. The movie was also filmed on location in Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

Ko Hyun-jung playing role of femme fatale in history drama
"The Sandglass" (1995) heroine Ko Hyun-jung is seeking to revive her glory through a big-scale history drama, which started airing on TV on May 25.
Ko, 38, is starring in MBC-TV's "The Great Queen Seondeok," a 50-episode epic drama featuring the power struggle within the royal court during the Silla Kingdom (57~935). News reports said Ko is drawing TV audiences with her stunning acting in the role of "Misil," a royal concubine who exercises an enormous influence on the king and his minions.
Misil is an ambitious woman thirsting for authority and power, who desperately attempts to prevent Princess Seondeok from being enthroned. Ko demonstrates Misil's alluring beauty fantastically blended with cruelty and cunning.
Starring in an epic drama is brand new ground for the 38-year-old veteran actress. Speaking at a news conference, she said she wanted the role of Misil, not Queen Seondeok. "Misil's definite and strong color is better for me," she said.
TV commentators said chances are that the history drama may become a blockbuster, citing the drama's relatively high viewer ratings. The dramatic tension and plot development in the drama's second episode gained nationwide ratings of 16.6 percent, according to a survey conducted by TNS Media Korea. The drama ranked first among TV programs in terms of viewer ratings.
"The Sandglass," a mega hit drama which aired in 1995, helped Ko secure top star status. After the drama ended, she also surprised the nation by marrying Jung Yong-jin, the grandson of Samsung Group founder Lee Byung-chull, in 1995. But after eight years of marriage, Ko separated from Jung and returned to the screen. She started her entertainment career after becoming the first runner-up in the 1989 Miss Korea beauty pageant.

Hollywood luring Korean actors
Film industry slump at home persuades them to look abroad
By Jeff Chung
The South Korean film industry has faced a downturn over the past few years, leading more Korean celebrities to pursue parts in mainstream Hollywood films. Rain was in "Speed-racer," Lee Byung Hun is in the new "G.I. Joe" movie, and Daniel Henney is in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which was released nationally on May 1.
Image from newsen via news.nate.com
Henney, born in 1979 to a British father and a Korean-American mother, works in South Korea as a model and actor. After finding success in TV commercials and print ads, Henney turned to acting, launching his career with the series "My Name is Kim Sam Soon," a hit that sparked a trend of including Korean-American actors in Korean shows. He has also appeared in "Spring Waltz," (the last of the "season" series: "Autumn Story," "Winter Sonata" and "Summer Scent"). From there he moved to film, and was in the Korean films "My Father" and "Seducing Mr. Perfect." Many of these roles required him to speak English and limited his Korean-language lines. Not only are his bilingual skills useful in Korea, as a native English speaker, Henney's fluency gives him an advantage over many Korean celebrities who are just now attempting to master English to be considered for Hollywood films.
Henney plays David North, aka Agent Zero, in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," alongside Hugh Jackman (Wolverine, aka Logan) and Liev Schreiber (Victor Creed, Sabertooth). Agent Zero, part of a CIA special-ops team, is an expert marksman and has uncanny tracking skills. Henney and Jackman were in South Korea last month to make appearances for fans.
Henney was a potential guest at HIFF several years ago, but due to schedule conflicts, he was not able to attend.

Kim Jung-eun Attached to Her TV Show
Kim Jung-eun
It has been over a year since actress Kim Jung-eun started her own music talk show, "Kim Jung-eun's Chocolate," on SBS, and she has just recorded the 59th episode. With viewers' ratings in the 5 percent range, the program has proved its potential to go the distance.
"It's not only about the running of the show on stage, I also pay attention to fashion with my stylist all the time," Kim says. "It's quite awkward, but I try on as many dresses that I wouldn't normally wear. The main reason is that I believe as a host of the program, I should add to the overall visual aspect of the program."
In addition to her main job in acting, Kim has been involved in a number of other things. "I became a goodwill ambassador for handball to promote the sport in Korea. Of course, it all started when I appeared in the film 'Forever the Moment.' Also, I am keenly interested in the adoption issue," she says. That was no coincidence: she has been the goodwill ambassador of the Social Welfare Society for nine years, with actor Lee Jeong-gil as head of the sponsors. "I think the most touching thing that a human being can do is adoption. People say adopting a child is like bearing a child with your heart," Kim says.
Kim is to return to the big screen later this year with a new film. However, she does not want to give up on hosting her show. "It's all about people. I'm always happy because I have people who made it possible for me to do this show and have helped me get where I am now. I want to do this job for a long time, whether it be acting or something else," she says.
