NYC becomes full-fledged group with major debut & will release their 1st single in April
Johnny's Jimusho appears to be betting big on a trio of young stars. 16-year-olds Yuma Nakayama, Ryosuke Yamada, and Yuri Chinen have been rising in popularity through their music and television activities, but now they will be debuting in their own unit, called NYC due to their initials.
The three boys have been getting a lot of exposure in the media in the past couple years. Yamada and Chinen are members of Hey! Say! JUMP, while Nakayama is the leader of the unit Yuma Nakayama with B.I.Shadow. Last year, they formed the core of the temporary 7-member group "NYC boys" (which included the four members of B.I.Shadow), and they even performed at the Kohaku Uta Gassen.
According to the agency, NYC boys will still continue for now, but Nakayama, Yamada, and Chinen will also be active as NYC, without the B.I.Shadow members.
On April 7, NYC will release their first major-label single, a version of the well-known "Yuuki 100%." Originally sung by Hikaru Genji in 1993, it has always been used as the opening theme of the long-running anime series "Nintama Rantaro." Since then, other Johnny's Jimusho groups have taken over singing the same song, including Hey! Say! JUMP last year.
Starting with the March 29 episode of "Nintama Rintaro," NYC's version will be used as the opening theme. NYC will also be providing the show's ending theme, titled "Yume no Tane." That song will be included on the upcoming single.

Actress Kitano Kii's debut single 「Sakura Saku」sells 16,000 in first week, attains No.7 and is the first actress to make her debut in the Top 10 since Aragaki Yui's singing debut in 2008
Fuji TV will be covering the 41st Spring National High School Volleyball Tournament, which starts on March 20. The network announced on Sunday that this year's "supporters" will be Hey! Say! 7, continuing the trend of the past two years.
Hey! Say! 7 consists of the five younger members of idol group Hey! Say! JUMP - Ryosuke Yamada, Yuri Chinen, Ryutaro Morimoto, Yuto Nakajima, and Keito Okamoto. In 2008 and 2009, all ten members of Hey! Say! JUMP served as supporters. For the Hey! Say! 7 team, this will be their third year in a row.
Hey! Say! 7 will lend their voices for the tournament's image song, titled "Ganba Let's Go!" (a combination of "ganbare" and "let's go"). No release date has been announced for the song yet.
Johnny's group NYC, formed by Yuma Nakayama (中山優馬), Ryosuke Yamada (山田涼介) and Yuri Chinen (知念侑李), will sing the theme song "Yuuki 100% / 勇気100% (lit. Courage 100%)" of NHK Anime "Nintama Rantaro / 忍たま乱太郎 (lit. Rantarō the Ninja Boy)".
Their new single CD including the opening theme "Yuuki 100% / 勇気100%" and ending song "Yume no Tane / ゆめのタネ (lit. The seed of dream)" will release on April 7th.
NYC Boys was formed as a non-permanent unit that will perform for a limited period, in order to do the coverage of FIVB World Grand Prix 2009. However, they attended the Kohaku Uta Gassen for the first time and were announced to be the permanent unit since Jan.1st 2010.
The group name represents the first letters of the names Nakayama (N), Yamada (Y), and Chinen (C). Meanwhile, Nakayama have been working actively as the core member of the group "中山優馬w/ B・I・Shadow / Nakayama Yuma with B.I.Shadow" debut last year, while Yamada and Chinen have been in the 10-member group "Hey! Say! JUMP" which made debut in 2007.
"Boys" in the group name NYC Boys represent other four members from the group "Nakayama Yuma with B.I.Shadow". Although these four will not be in the debut CD, according to the company, NYC Boys will not be eliminated, but continue to work with NYC as the main part.
"Yuuki 100% / 勇気100%", the theme song of "Nintama Rantaro / 忍たま乱太郎", was sang by "Hikaru GENJI (光GENJI)" in 1993 for the first time, followed by Ya-Ya-Yah and Hey! Say! JUMP. "This song has been sung by seniors of Johnny's, so I feel very happy to have a chance to sing the same song. I want to make it bright and full of spirit." said Yamada.
