Imtiaz Ali: There is much more to show in Kashmir than violence
Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali said Kashmir is regarded as "special" by the people of the country, but lamented that the place has "not been accurately" portrayed by the Hindi film industry.
"Kashmir is regarded as special in the country... It is like the jewel of the country... But it is represented very little and I do share your sentiment that it has not being completely and accurately described. There have been films on Kashmir, but there is much more than what has been shown," Ali said during an interactive session organized by Media Department of Kashmir University here.
Ali said most of the films on Kashmir have been on the violence that was prevalent in the state in the last two decades.
"I do not have the numbers but I think there have been a lot of stories on violence in Kashmir. But there is much more to show than violence," he said.
The filmmaker, who is currently shooting his new film Highway in the valley, said that Kashmir apart from being the most beautiful place is the most sophisticated society.
"Kashmir is the most beautiful place I have seen in my life. I have been very attracted by Kashmiri culture... The way they eat, the way they cook and all that... It is the most sophisticated society I have known. I love Kashmir and I want to show it through my films," he said.
"I feel more pressure when I am shooting here as I keep on thinking that I better do justice to this place," he added.
The Jab We Met helmer said Kashmir has a lot of creative talent and expressed hope that youngsters will make a mark in the film industry.
"The standard of aesthetics is very high here. People are very creative and talented. I hope a lot of young people will come up with good ideas and prove themselves," he said.
The director, who also shot his last film Rockstar in the valley, is presently shooting Highway with actors Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda.
Ali also lauded the state government for encouraging filmmakers to shoot the movies in the valley.
"Government is keen to encourage filmmakers to come to Kashmir and the authorities are very helpful here," he said.

Ayan Mukherji wants to remake grandpa's Love in Simla
Director Ayan Mukherji would love to remake his grandfather Sashadhar Mukherji's 1960 film Love in Simla.
"I loved Love in Simla. I don't think many people are aware of it. If I would ever have to remake a film, it would be this movie as I loved it a lot. I have watched it many times," Ayan said in an interview.
Love In Simla, a 1960 film, was produced by Sashadhar Mukherji and his Filmalaya production house. Directed by R K Nayyar, it had the producer's son, Joy Mukherji, in lead opposite Sadhana. The film was a huge hit.
Since Ayan hails from a filmi family - grandfather was a filmmaker and his father is popular actor Deb Mukherji - it was an obvious step for him to enter films, but he had to struggle.
"It was very natural but complicated. Older people in the industry talk highly of my grandfather. Unfortunately I never saw his success. In my father's generation a lot of them worked in films but they existed somewhere on the outskirts of Bollywood," Ayan said.
"While growing up there was an influence of films. I grew up listening words like screenplay, editing, Satyajit Ray or Bimay Roy. There was a desire to be in films but I did not have an access to stars. It was little bit of an insider and outsider. It played a role in developing my passion for films but it did not help me much in entering films," he said.
Ayan also said that if given a chance, he would love to make a film with his cousins Kajol and Rani.
Ayan made his directorial debut with 'Wake up Sid', which was a hit, and now is looking forward to the release of his second romantic film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which has Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in the lead.

Saif Ali Khan: Sara likes the idea of getting into movies
Saif Ali Khan says he would love to see his daughter Sara on the screen.
With a bevy of star kids making their Bollywood debuts this year, it doesn't come as a surprise when Saif Ali Khan says he would love his 16-year-old daughter Sara to join the Bollywood brigade. The Nawab of Pataudi feels facing the camera is the "most incredible profession in the whole world".
If her father's dreams come true, Sara would be joining the likes of Tiger Shroff, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor and the others to romance the cameras.
However with just a hint of caution, the proud father says, "Whether she can be or not is a separate question. I don't know for sure. I think she likes the idea of getting into movies. But at the moment she is pursuing academics, so let's see where that goes."
While Saif's first film Parampara was at the age of 22, the actor feels there is no real rush these days to join tinsel town. He says, "Gone are the days when you had to do it by the age of 16."
A few months back, Sara posed with her mother Amrita Singh on the covers of a magazine that led to a lot of speculation about her entry into Bollywood. Says proud papa Saif, "Sara has just joined Columbia University and I am very happy and relieved."

wahhhh... Aashiqui 2 super hit...nak kena tgk neh
‘Aashiqui 2’ a Surprise Super-hit and ‘Shootout At Wadala’ Fares Well Overseas
With “Aashiqui 2” becoming a surprise super-hit and “Shootout At Wadala” emerging as the biggest hit of 2013 overseas (where such Mumbai-based gangster films generally do not work), it’s a healthy opening for Q2 at the box office, as the corporates would say.
The latter film has already grossed Rs. 52 crore overseas, according to a report – a fantastic collection in less than a week. The Indian figure is around Rs 37 crore net. In India, “Aashiqui 2” has crossed a gross of Rs. 42 crore, amazing going for a film that cost only Rs. 9 crore to make with Rs. 7 crore to market.
The quarter opened on a good note when “Chashme Baddoor” proved a hit (April 5 release) despite criticism and unfair comparisons to the old original. “Nautanki Saala!” and “Commando,” both released April 12, were average runners, “Commando” doing better than the former.
The big disappointment was “Ek Thi Daayan,” which flopped despite good content because of a lack of face value and a negative ‘arty’ image, courtesy co-producer and co-writer Vishal Bhardwaj’s involvement in the film.
On the other hand, “Aashiqui 2” is Mukesh Bhatt’s first truly universal certified film in years and it has become their biggest hit after “Murder 2” in 2011.
And though there are chances that “Shootout At Wadala” will not sustain either at home or overseas, the fact remains that since it released on May 3, the centenary of Indian cinema, and also opened well and grew in the weekend, it is truly an auspicious beginning for the second century of Indian cinema, now the biggest in the world. Amen.
