KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 — Deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was today forced to deny that he is on a golfing break in Dubai.

In a statement that appeared on his Facebook page, Muhyiddin’s office rejected allegations made by two opposition MPs, Zairil Khir Johari and Steven Sim Chee Keong, claiming that his schedule during the visit was heavy with golfing pursuits.

“The document revealed by the two MPs is not the actual schedule of the deputy prime minister’s working visit, conversely, it is an early draft of the programme while it was still being discussed” the statement said.

The deputy prime minister is instead on an official working visit to the UAE from April 7 to 12, the statement stressed.

Muhyiddin’s finalised schedule proved tight with official duties his entire time in Dubai, the statement said, listing out several key engagements.

Muhyiddin was invited to take part in a golfing event together with businessmen from both countries as part of efforts to strengthen business and commercial ties, the statement said.

But all expenses for the golfing event was borne by private companies and no public funds were used, it clarified.

Muhyiddin also shared Malaysia’s experience in facing global business issues and attracting foreign investment during the visit, it added.
