"One day, near the administration and registration statistics in Tehran, I found a pile of discarded omissions, full trash cans. All were women born in the early 1940s, which were photographed in his youth. The astonishing variety of hairstyles - only a minority of wearing a headscarf or veil - reflects the variety of options that worn by women in the late 1950s and 60s. One can see a variety of classes and individual women of that time, shy and modest, up, confident and glamorous. When I found these photos somewhere in 2005, I wondered if these women are alive died, emigrated or prolonged passes. It seemed to me that the government is likely to destroy the evidence of our recent and distant past, women in these photos are opposed to the current dominant culture. I was shocked that these records of our society could be thrown away so easily, without remorse. "
Najaf Shokri.
Not just beautiful, and the disastrous beautiful!

Kiana Hayeri grew up in Tehran, where the country’s morality police restricted her public behavior. She left in 2005 when she was 17 and moved to Toronto, where she studied photography at Ryerson University. Her project’s title, “ Your Veil Is A Battleground,” refers not just to the hijab covering — or not covering — their heads in public, which is law under the islamic republic, but also to the hidden nature of their private lives. It goes beyond the restrictions placed on women in public or their private rebellion. Ms. Hayeri also explores how the women choose to present themselves in public. “It’s a whole world that many Americans are unaware of,” she said. “Nowadays, with all this talk about war, sanctions and nuclear weapons, people tend to forget about ordinary people, the actual people who live in Iran, and they only look at the government.” “This is the generation that is trying to push the boundaries in every sense.”

Iran: Women protest against forced wearing of hijab, 1979Who spoke up for these women? No one. Where are they now? Those who are still alive are all wearing the hijab, unless they were able to escape from Iran. Who speaks up for such women now? No one. But who speaks up for their oppressors? Many, many people, including the President of the United States: “Moreover, freedom in America is indivisible from the freedom to practice one’s religion. That is why there is a mosque in every state in our union, and over 1,200 mosques within our borders. That’s why the United States government has gone to court to protect the right of women and girls to wear the hijab and to punish those who would deny it.” — Barack Obama, Cairo, June 4, 2009Who speaks up for them? No one. To do so would be “Islamophobic.” This picture was posted on Twitter by Feminist Pics, but their sisters were not on the case at the time.
