Dentist has to pay out thousands after extracting the wrong tooth

PATIENT Jon Baud has won  £4,500 compensation after a dentist pulled out the wrong tooth.
After weeks of pain, the 36-year-old hoped his extraction would end the toothache.

But what he did not bank on was the dentist removing a perfectly healthy tooth which was next to the one which needed removing.
Jon, from Cheltenham, has now won the money to cover the cost of his new implants.

"I was gobsmacked when they said the wrong tooth had been removed. My immediate thought was 'Oh God, I've got to go through that entire procedure again," he said.

In December, he began to suffer terrible toothache in one of the large molars in the right hand side of his mouth.
The pain got so bad he was forced to take a week off work. He made an appointment with his regular NHS dentist at the Eastgate Street Dental Centre in Gloucester.

On arrival, he was told he would be seen by a senior member of the staff instead of his normal dentist.
Jon, of Lansdown Place, was told the tooth was dead and was presented with two options; either have the it removed or opt for a root canal.

He was given tablets to take away the pain while he considered his options. When the tablets failed to take the edge off the ache he booked himself in for an extraction the next day.

"This was my first ever molar tooth extraction, so I was extremely nervous about the procedure," he said.
He claims the treatment itself was stressful and said he almost passed out when the anaesthetic was administered and he had to be given a glucose drink to boost his sugar levels.

"The procedure was not only stressful, but was also extremely unpleasant," he said.
It was only when he was in the centre's recovery room that he was made aware of the error.
"About 15 minutes after the treatment my dentist a senior member of staff came to say there was a problem," he said.

"It was pretty clear there could only be one problem. I knew immediately they'd removed the wrong tooth. I honestly didn't know what to say."
In February, Jon began legal proceedings against the dental centre and won his case for damages receiving his cheque on July 15.

In the meantime, he set about preparing for corrective treatment, this time opting for private treatment at James Critchley at Pittville Lawn in Cheltenham.

"I was terrified of the additional work I needed," he said. "I was forced to have the dead tooth extracted and endure seven months of restorative work which I had to pay for myself up front costing over £4,500.

"The implants which have been fitted will need very close, and possibly costly, attention for the rest of my life.
East Gate Street Dental Centre and NHS Gloucestershire declined to comment.

percaya atau tidak...ramai dah komplen kekadang ada klinik gigi yg mencari  untung dengan sengaja membuat servis yg tak diperlukan. tampal gigi la..cabut gigi yg tak perlu la..ianya mungkin bukan kecuaian...tapi nak suruh pesakit satang lagi. mmg berlaku di mana2 negara kes2 semacam ni.

sbb tuh, aku pernah duk pegi byk klinik gigi time akku sakit gigi ari tuh. 1st dentist, laki aku ckp, dentist tu mcm nak kaut untung duk suruh dtg byk kali ( aku lak rasa, logic la, gusi tgh bengkak, klau cabut gigi, lagik teruk sakit.)
g 2nd dentist, check lebih kurang, trus suruh buat canal root. siap ckp, xperlu nak xray, n selamat untuk pregnant lady. while 1st dentist awal2 da bgtau, anything procedure nk buat kt pregnant moms, kene ati2.sbb prempuan mengandung mmg ade yg terkena alahan sakit gigi.
aku pnye pendapat, tak per je dptkan 2nd opinion dr klinik lain. drpd jd kes tersalah cabut gigi/tersalah procedure. gigi org dewasa takkan tumbuh lagik, melainkan korg 'tanam' gigi baru
