US F1 factory closes
The Charlotte factory of the US F1 team is believed to have effectively closed on Tuesday as workers were instructed to stop working. The outfit has been struggling to make the grid of the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix and has already been reported to have submitted a request to skip the 2010 season.
With the squad established by Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor having revealed its plans in the winter of last year, the ambition to bring the first American team into Formula 1 appears to have died for US F1, for the 2010 season at least.
According to Autosport, the team have informed personnel that work can no longer continue on the run-up to the upcoming season. It has already been reported that team heads are offering F1 governing body the FIA a 7-figure compensation sum to skip what should have been its debut season.
It is believed that neither of the team's two leading figures were present as the announcement was made to staff, with no statement having been released either. When contacted by telephone by GPUpdate.net, the following message could be heard: 'The number you have reached has been temporarily disconnected. No additional information is available'. The team's website remains online.
Meanwhile, rumours also circulate that José María López, the Argentinean who had signed for US F1, now requests his money back and is looking to become the reserve driver of the newly-owned Campos team, which could change its name to Hispania Racing.
With US F1 having not officially withdrawn from the championship, Serbian hopefuls Stefan Grand Prix continue to hope for a place in the sport and will not be supplied with Bridgestone tyres until receiving a slot on the starting grid from the FIA.

Campos to be renamed Hispania Racing
Campos Meta 1 will change its name to Hispania Racing F1 Team (HRT) before the start of the 2010 season next weekend.
Jose Ramon Carabante, who was formerly Campos team president, took over the outfit from Adrian Campos last month and installed Colin Kolles as team principal.
"The new team name signifies a new birth for our Formula One ambitions and highlights the incredible effort that is going on behind the scenes to ensure we make a successful debut in Bahrain on March 14," Kolles said. "While we are a new team in the paddock, we will be very proud to stand alongside such legendary names as Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Lotus, as we hope to build our own reputation in the coming years."
The squad also confirmed that a team presentation will take place in Murcia on Thursday, the city that is set to be its new home. It is believed the event could see the unveiling of the Dallara-built car's livery and the announcement of Bruno Senna and Indian Karun Chandhok as its drivers.
The name Hispania is the Roman name for the Iberian Peninsula, including modern-day Portugal, Spain, Andorra, Gibraltar and some of France. Team president Carabante's company is called Grupo Hispania.

Indian driver Karun Chandhok has been announced as a race driver for the HRT Formula One Team, ahead of its livery and team launch on Thursday.
HRT was confirmed on the FIA's official entry list on Wednesday, but its management waited until Thursday before confirming Chandhok as a driver. Chandhok has raced in GP2 for the past three years, where his best overall finish was tenth. He will join fellow rookie and ex-GP2 team-mate Bruno Senna at the Murcia-based outfit, which will turn up at the first race in Bahrain with an untested Dallara-built car and Cosworth engine.
"I am very pleased to use the Murcia site to officially unveil our car livery today," said team principal Colin Kolles. "We also complete the driver's team line-up with the Indian Karun Chandhok at the wheel of the car for our first ever season.
"We have been very impressed with Karun's performance in GP2. India is a great country. It will be great for the sport to have an Indian driver on the grid for the first Indian Grand Prix [scheduled for 2011]. Everything is now in place after an impossible race against time to register the team's name and I truly believe that we have an excellent platform to build on and move forward for a strong 2010 performance. Now we need to work together. We need to learn together and keep developing as a team."
