September 23, 2011: Singapore has ordered several hundred more locally made Spider LSV (light strike vehicles). The Singapore armed forces already have fifty of these. Spider LSV is 1.6 ton, unarmored combat vehicle. Armament is either a 12.7mm machine-gun or a 40mm automatic grenade launcher or six Spike anti-tank guided missiles or a 120mm mortar. Secondary armament consists of one or two 7.62mm or 5.56mm machine-guns. The vehicle carries a crew of four, plus two passengers. Total payload capacity is 1.2 tons. Top speed on a paved road is 130 kilometers (75 miles) an hour while off road, top speed is 80 kilometers an hour. The 4.5 meter long, 4x4 vehicle is very agile. 1) They will retain the L44 120mm gun (same in US M1A1/M1A2 Abrams MBT) for the time being while retaining the possibility of upgrading them to the longer L55 gun in future. SAF feels that the L44 will be more than adequate. Instead, the SAF will leverage on new versatile kinetic energy and multiple purpose ammunition(advanced kinetic energy rounds and programmable fuze, multi-purpose rounds) to hit and kill targets* basically the range and lethality of the L55 gun more or less while still using the L44 gun so no point upgrading for now.
2) New network-centric Battlefield management system to be installed so that the Leos are linked to the SAF`s over-arching battle network.
3) New "data-bus" system for better connectivity(SAF`s UAVs and other network centric systems)
4) New Auxilliary Power Unit for better sustainability and power
5) New fire control system for enhanced targetting, accuracy and lethality.
6) New armour modules "all-round" for better protection;hence new look
7) New running gear to cater for new weight growth due to new armour; im guessing it will probably be in the range of 60-65 tons

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) donated 45 motorised boats to the Royal Thai Army (RTA) in support of the ongoing flood relief efforts in Thailand. The boats will be transported by two C-130 aircraft from the Republic of Singapore Air Force over three days starting from today. The SAF had earlier donated sandbags, bed sheets and blankets to the RTA as well as supported the Singapore Government in contributing US$115,000 worth of relief supplies, including tents, generators, blankets, lamps and water containers to the Thai Government.

The Singapore Government has sent emergency equipment and supplies to Thailand to assist with flood relief efforts.
A C-130 aircraft and a KC-135 aircraft from the Republic of Singapore Air Force transported US$115,000 worth of relief supplies, including tents, generators, blankets, lamps and water containers. The items were handed over by our Ambassador in Bangkok Mr Peter Chan to Thai Government spokesperson Thitima Chaisang this afternoon. The Singapore Armed Forces had earlier also donated sandbags, bed sheets and blankets to the Royal Thai Army to help with the flood relief efforts.
These relief supplies are in addition to the US$100,000 contribution from the Singapore Government as seed money to kickstart the Singapore Red Cross appeal for donations for countries in the region affected by the floods including Thailand and Cambodia. A contribution of S$100,000 was presented to the Thai Red Cross in Bangkok by the Singapore Red Cross on 12 October 2011.

ST Engineerings Marine Arm Secures S$200m Contract To Design And Build Landing Platform Dock
Singapore, 11 November 2008 – Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) today announced that its marine arm, Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine), has secured a contract in a basket of currencies amounting to about S$200m, to design and build a 141m Landing Platform Dock (LPD), two 23m Landing Craft Mechanised (LCM) and two 13m Landing Craft Vehicle and Personnel (LCVP), for a navy in the Asia Pacific region. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid 2009 and delivery is planned for in 2H 2012.
This contract is not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.

The first of four new fast missile craft for Egypt was dedicated Oct. 25 at a shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss., and the ship's name was announced.
The S. Ezzat is named after Soliman Ezzat, the admiral who founded and led the modern Egyptian Navy from 1953 to 1967, shipbuilder VT Halter Marine said in a press release.
Construction of the ship began in a newly built fabrication facility at VT Halter in November 2009 under a U.S. Navy Foreign Military Sales program managed by the U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command.
The original contract for the program was awarded to VT Halter in November 2005. Since then, the U.S. has awarded the shipbuilder more than $800 million for the ships.
Also known as the Ambassador III class, the stealthy, 550-ton ships are 207 feet long. They are powered by three MTU diesels and designed for a top speed of 41 knots. The ships are armed with eight Harpoon surface-to-surface missiles and an OTO Melara 3-inch gun, with self-defense provided by a Rolling Airframe Missile launcher and a Close-In Weapon System Block 1B. They are designed to operate at sea for up to eight days.
The Egyptian Navy operates several classes of fast missile ships, built in the Soviet Union, Germany and Britain, but the last was delivered in 1982.
The Ezzat is expected to leave Mississippi for Egypt during 2012.
Construction continues on the other three ships: F. Zekry, M. Fahmy and A. Gad. The last ship is contracted for delivery in December 2013.
