not sure whether it is true or not. or whether it just like LHC story one cannot know the future right? so live our life while you still can

7 reasons the world will end in 2012

Scientific experts from around the world are genuinely predicting that five years from now, all life on Earth could well finish. Some are saying it'll be humans that set it off. Others believe that a natural phenomenon will be the cause. And the religious folks are saying it'll be God himself who presses the stop button...

1. Mayan Calendar
The first mob to predict 2012 as the end of the world were the Mayans, a bloodthirsty race that were good at two things:

Building highly accurate astrological equipment out of stone and
Sacrificing Virgins.

Thousands of years ago they managed to calculate the length of the lunar moon as 329.53020 days, only 34 seconds out. The Mayan calendar predicts that the Earth will end on December 21, 2012. Given that they were pretty close to the mark with the lunar cycle, it's likely they've got the end of the world right as well.

2. Sun Storms
Solar experts from around the world monitoring the sun have made a startling discovery: our sun is in a bit of strife. The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic, and it's supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, recent solar storms have been bombarding the Earth with so much radiation energy, it's been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to get worse, and calculations suggest it'll reach its deadly peak sometime in 2012

3. The Atom Smasher

Scientists in Europe have been building the world's largest particle accelerator. Basically its a 27km tunnel designed to smash atoms together to find out what makes the Universe tick. However, the mega-gadget has caused serious concern, with some scientists suggesting that it's properly even a bad idea to turn it on in the first place. They're predicting all manner of deadly results, including mini black holes. So when this machine is fired up for its first serious experiment in 2012, the world could be crushed into a super-dense blob the size of a basketball.

4. Super Volcano
Yellowstone National Park in the United States is famous for its thermal springs and Old Faithful geyser. The reason for this is simple - it's sitting on top of the world's biggest volcano, and geological experts are beginning to get nervous sweats. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we're many years overdue for an explosion that will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang.

5. The Physicists

This one's case of bog-simple maths mathematics. Physicists at Berekely Uni  have been crunching the numbers. and they've determined that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they're claiming their calculations prove, that we're all going to die, very soon - while also saying their prediction comes with a certainty of 99 percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs.

6. Slip-Slop-Slap- BANG!

We all know the Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that sheilds us from most of the sun's radiation. What you might not know is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a nasty habit of swapping places every 750,000 years or so - and right now we're about 30,000 years overdue. Scientists have noted that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points to a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is underway, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. The result is enough UV outdoors to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches.

let's look at the reason 1 by 1...

1. The Mayan Calendar. Ok, it's astonishing that they can predict astronomical constant very accurately. But what in the world did they use as an argument that 2012 is the end of the world? After all, it's Mayan Calendar, maybe their 2012 has long gone..

2. The Sun gets wild. This thing happens all the time, yet we are still alive!

3. The Atom smasher. Someone told me that their first bombardment would create a black hole right here. Where is it?

4. Super Volcano ----> Big Bang? Big Bang is billions times more powerful than a bomb. Then how could an exploding mountain cause a big bang? That is just.... extremely not possible..

5. It just doesn't make sense that a group of physicists could be experts on Earth catastrophic events. It should've been geologists.

6. That is not the end of the world?

A supervolcano is indeed possible, but I think a massive erruption of supervolcano does not make the world end, unless the supervolcano is half the size of the earth.

I think we should start defining the term 'end of the world', and should distinguish it from the term 'end of the earth'.

Nothing is worse than half-hearted fool who talks about Science when they don't know the facts. Sigh. :re:

1. Mayan calendar.
- They did not say that the World will end in 2012, they said that the Cycle will end at 2012. The difference here is, a new Cycle WILL begin after a small period of time of Darkness, when the Mayan gods gather again and "make" a new Sun.

PS : They don't sacrific virgins. They sacrifice war victims.

2. Solar Storm - Not an end of the World stuff. Some places will get burned while others could still be habitable. Depends on the Ozone hole.

3. Atom smasher - BS. If this was true, we could be dead by now since millions of atoms smash into each other every day outside the Planet.

4. Super Volcano - will block out the Sun, but it will not kill humans IF they know how to use Science and Technology which they have today to survive. If don't know how to use, then die lah.

6. (I gonna skip no. 5). Magnetic Reversal - not harmful enough to kill everyone. Just enough to kill about 99% of the human race. No big deal ... kidding.

Relax ... Dinosaurs lived for 65 million years and they survived Magnetic Reversal couple of time. We can too.

Mayan Calendar does not predict End of the World like what Christians (and Muslims) come to believe. Earth is not gonna go kaboom! at 2012 according to the Mayans. They just said that their calculations will end at 2012 and a new Cycle will begin.

Christians and Muslims believes that End of the World means that the Planet gonna be destroyed. But other beliefs (like Hindusm, Buddhism and such) does not believe that is correct. A cycle will end and a new Cycle (in Hindusm, it is Satya Yugam) will begin again and humans will be like the time their ancestors have first came.

So, except something major to occur in 2012. Something like the 2004 Tsunami-like event or Krakatoa blowing up but in much, much, MUCH bigger scale, capable of turning the World back to the Stone Age.

It is there and then, will Human's ability to survive will be pushed to its limit. We will be tested on what knowledge we have gain. We will be tested on how well we have understood and be able to use our Science and Technology to safeguard ourselves and other lifeforms for the sake of the future.

If humans cannot survive, than they have no reason to survive.

mayan believe in world cycle....there are 12 cycle altogether since the beginning of time,2012 happen to be the end of the 12th.they are good in astronomy calculations but bad in using it to their own good like predicting drought etc.....as for the rest predictions,it has happen before.....and life always find a way.

The region they live in are in the high altitudes of South America, so is it not an easy task for them to predict things like droughts easily.

Plus, it maybe possible that long-term effects are easily calculated than short-term changes to the climate or the land.

I think 2012 is a year the Masons chose to finalise their grand plan. Something will happen in 2012. The crash of financial institution and the food crisis is just the beginning. I'm not afraid. I have my secret weapon.
