[THE HIGH TIDE OF THE KOREAN WAVE(17)] Korean dramas carve a niche in Japan
Few fans take their fascination to this level, but even occasional and casual TV viewers will recognize the names of the stars of those first few NHK series -- Bae Yong-joon, Choi Ji-woo, Lee Byung-hun, Ryu Shi-won and Lee Young-ae -- and their works -- "Winter Sonata," "Daejanggum," "Stairway to Heaven," "Beautiful Days," and "Hotelier" -- which top a list of the most popular Korean dramas in Japan, according to a survey of 1,600 Japanese, mainly women in their 30s, done in 2007 by the TV Asahi program SMAStation. Hosted by SMAP's Shingo Katori, the program unfortunately has had to compete with these dramas in the Saturday, 11 p.m. time slot.

Hollywood's remake of "Addicted" premieres in America

Hollywood has remade the Korean movie "Addicted" into a thriller, "Possession" and will be premiering nationwide on the 28th. This is the second remake of a Korean movie following "Lake House" starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, which remade "Il Mare".
"Addicted", starring Lee Byeong-Heon and Lee Mi-yeon, premiered in 2002. It was about two brothers who experienced an accident on the same day, and the mysterious love story that follows after only the younger brother wakes up and claims that their souls have changed. The basic outline of the Hollywood remake is the same. The main female character, originally Lee Mi-yeon, will be played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, who was in "Scooby Doo" and "The Grudge".
Also, the role of the brother-in-law that earned Lee Byeong-Heon a lot of praise went to new actor Lee Pace. Simon Sandquist and Joel Bergvall are the directors. The movie has not been revealed, and a preview in America is planned for this week. A release in Korea has not been determined.
The remakes of "My Sassy Girl" and "A Tale of Two Sisters" are to be released in the fall in America.

Louis Vuitton Opens Biggest Flagship Store in Hong Kong

French luxury goods maker Louis Vuitton opened its biggest flagship store in Asia in Hong Kong on Friday, inviting many stars, including Chinese Hollywood actress Zhang Ziyi, to attend its grand opening party.
Several other domestic and foreign celebrities attended the opening, including Hong Kong actor Chow Yun-Fat, Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh and Japanese soccer star Hidetoshi Nakata.
