Middlesbrough vs Arsenal: Wenger denies Lehmann homecoming rumours
Jens Lehmann

Friday December 07, 2007
LONDON (AFP) - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed rumours linking unsettled goalkeeper Jens Lehmann with a return to his native Germany in the January transfer window.

The 38-year-old lost his place in the Gunners first team to Manuel Almunia at the end of August and has not been able to win it back, leading to speculation he could opt for a switch to the Bundesliga to ensure he remains Germany's first choice in the run up to Euro 2008 next sumer.

Wolfsburg are reportedly ready to offer Lehmann a ticket home but Wenger insisted he had no plans to let the veteran go.

"It's not true," Wenger said. "It's only newspaper talk because nothing concrete has been discussed between me and Jens and nothing between me and Wolfsburg.

"At the moment I do not want to speculate on any movement in the transfer window. We want to focus on our games and Jens is part of that."

Wenger meanwhile admitted that key midfielder Cesc Fabregas is struggling to be fit in time for the crunch Premier League clash with Chelsea on December 16.

Fabregas will definitely miss Sunday's trip to Middlesbrough, as will Alexander Hleb and Mathieu Flamini.

Fabregas pulled his hamstring in the Champions League defeat against Sevilla last week and Wenger acknowledged how important the young Spaniard has become to his side's prospects of success.

"What's true in one game is not over 10," Wenger said. "In a one-off, of course you can do well. But we want Cesc with us. He's a big player. He is world-class."

Striker Robin van Persie and midfielder Abou Diaby meanwhile are due to return to training next week and could play some role in the Chelsea clash.

Jahanam ff aku...

Rosicky : We can stay in pole

Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky maintains Arsene Wenger's side have the strength in depth to stay the course over the race for thePremier League title.

The Gunners moved four points clear at the top of the table following their 1-1 draw at Newcastle on Wednesday night.

The north Londoners next face struggling Middlesbrough on Sunday and are still without the injured quartet of Cesc Fabregas, Mathieu Flamini, Alex Hleb and Robin van Persie.

Although Wenger fielded a makeshift stating XI at St James'Park, his team took an early lead and then stood firm in the face of a second-half onslaught from the Magpies.

Rosicky believes such resilience shows they have got what it takes to keep themselves in pole position.

"We were missing people like Fabregas and Flamini, but we can manage and we can still play well without them," the Czech skipper said.

"No-one believed us when we said we could win the Premier League, but we are a very good team and we don't care whether anyone believed us or not.

"We will be very happy if we stay in the position we are in now."

Although Arsenal now have a seven-point lead on fifth-placed Manchester City, Wenger is taking nothing for granted despite the so-called 'Big Four' looking set to battle it out for the domestic crown.

"It is not guaranteed for everybody," the Frenchman declared.

"Teams like Villa and Man City who are doing well, Everton and Portsmouth can fight to be in the top four too.

"It is becoming more and more interesting for the teams moving up."
