Depends sebenarnya. Nak singgah sehari dua ke atau nak round lama sikit?
Many people loves South Island, so most akan turun Christchurch. South Island is full of scenery, banyak places to stop. Kalau tak nak spend banyak days in NZ pun, around Christchurch tu banyak beautiful places. Christchurch itself, Akaroa, Kaikoura.. tu sumer dekat-dekat Christchurch je. Kalau ada banyak time, boleh lajak lagi Dunedin, Queenstown, Milford Sound etc. South Island ni tempatnya jauh-jauh from one to another. So I think kalo tanya those in this forum, rata-rata memang ramai yg pusing South Island tapi tak jejak North. Hiking etc.
North Island ni pun sebenarnya not bad. Auckland itself, sebab dia bandar kan.. biasa je lah. Macam mana kita rasa semak kat KL, maca tu lah semaknya kat Auckland. BUT, North Island pun sebenarnya ada its own attraction, depending on what you like. North Island ada Rotorua yg tak jauh pun dari Auckland. I personally loves Rotorua very much - both for the geothermal uniqueness and the culture. Rotorua offers things yg hard to find in other places. Coromandel Peninsular, Hamilton, pun not bad sebenarnya.
So if you ask me, depends. Dua-dua pun interesting sebenarnya, in a different way.

I went to Rotorua.. dan pergi ke Waiotapu nak tengok Lady Knox Geyser.. syiok punya pasal x sedar2 t ...
Yup.. that's why I said both have different attractions.. South is beautiful, but North offers it in a different way. My personal view, if you have limitation of time, then go South will do. But if you have time, don't forget North - Rotorua especially because it is the centre of Maori culture, many places to visit and many things to learn from the past.
Masa kat Tekapo during the first visit, I stayed in Lakeview Tekapo motel. This motel ada sky window right on top of our bed yg we can control using a remote. Why ada sky window ni is to allow stargazing activity to be done right from our bed. So kalo tak puas lagi tengok langit kat luar sebelum tu, masa nak tidur pun masih boleh biarkan sky window terbukak tengok bintang sambil layan mata sebelum tidur
In Rotorua, I went to Wai O tapu masa first visit to NZ... round the whole area sampai pancit rasa tak mau bangun.. Masa tengok Lady Knox konon dok kat depan-depan gitu, but then once air dah start tersembur, I ran sebab tak sangka dah sampai macam hujan sampai habis kamera basah. Nyesal dok depan gitu
Masa 2nd visit to NZ, I watched the eruption of Pohutu geyser from Whakarewarewa Thermal village, and I thought that is much better than Lady Knox. The eruption is much much higher, happen every hour, and natural (Lady Knox kan dia pakai sabun to encourage the eruption).
Culture wise, I visited 2 cultural villages, masa 1st visit we visited Tamaki Maori Village, set in the middle of the jungle. Bukak malam2 je. Love it sebab can learn their culture though Tamaki is purely for tourist. Nobody really lives in the village. Masa nak masuk they make it as if another tribe is asking for permission from the other tribe to enter their village, tu yg the point of entry is only done once a day, everybody comes in at the same time in a group. And they cook hangi pun for the whole lot dalam lubang hangi yg besar before the cultural show sebab cater for many, unlike in Whakarewarewa yg lubangnya tak berapa besar.
The 2nd visit I went to Whakarewarewa Thermal Village.. it is more natural sebab memang really living village kan. We get to know their lifestyle directly. But as for cultural show, I love the one in Tamaki better than Whakarewarewa, though in Whakarewarewa it is still nice and enjoyable.
I read back my blog masa I wrote after my first visit about Wai O Tapu in here http://quinaryinlife.blogspot.co ... 1-around-wai-o.html and masa tu I wrote about my justification to miss Whakarewarewa during our first visit. I thought I can miss Whakarewarewa then because I did Tamaki & Wai O Tapu already, but I am glad I did Whakarewarewa during the 2nd visit sebab it turns out, it offers a different experience altogether than Tamaki and Wai O Tapu.
