HyunA’s “Change” is the first big hit of 2010


Not too long ago, 4minute's rapper HyunA released her  first solo track Change. According to the online charts, HyunA's has been a hot issue and reached the #2 spot almost immediately after her song was released.

Change was composed by the same mastermind behind Hot Issue and Muzik, featuring fellow label mate rapper Yong Joon Hyung aka Poppin Dragon, from BEAST.

Officials say that HyunA's track will have no trouble hitting the #1 spot and that she'll be the first big hit of 2010. Quite the honorary title isn't it?

HyunA's music video is dropping anytime soon and she'll be making her live solo debut on the January 8th episode of KBS Music Bank, but in the meantime take a listen to her full track and watch the teaser.

4Minute featured in God of Study OST

Despite all the commotion HyunA's created with her solo affairs as a kpop artist, we have to remember she is still very much a part of 4Minute. These ladies have recently released their featured track from the OST for the drama God of Study. It's title is Dreams Come True and single has a very rock sound to it, something we're not quite used to hearing from these girls.

Along with 4Minute, T-Max and T-ara's Jiyeon (who is also starring in the drama) will also be featured on the drama's OST. For now, check out 4Minute's latest track!

4minute sings for drama God of Study

A song played at the very end of the KBS 2TV drama God of Study premiere caught the 4NIAs' attention. Some parts in this song reminds them 4minute's voices, especially Jiyoon's one. Many fans wondered if 4minute really sang or not, until one 4NIA armed by a camera finally proved them right.

The song is titled 'Dreams Come True' and is available on G.O.S. OST (support them by purchasing the songs online, via Mnet for example)

God of Study is a remake of the Japanese dorama drama Dragon Zakura and features Kim Suro, Yoo Seungho & T-Ara's Jiyeon. Because of the ressemblance between its promotional pictures and the ones for Boys Over Flower, this drama became one of the most anticipated for this first half of the year.

4minute and BEAST go Universal

JYPE's sister group Cube Entertainment has been very successful with their rookie groups 4minute and BEAST. With both of their albums passing 20,000 sales, this company is going to have a bright future.

On the 4th, Cube met with representatives from Universal, which is the largest record company in the world. After many discussions, the companies decided that Universal would help Cube debut outside of Korea. Does this mean that the two groups are going to debut in the States? There's no information of that (yet), but it seems like Cube's artists will officially start selling their albums all over Asia. There are plans to distribute album copies to eight countries in Asia, including Japan, which Korean artists tend to cross over to.

4minute's album, For Muzik, will start selling this month in other countries. BEAST will follow, and then eventually artists like Mario and Eddie will also release albums internationally.

Considering the fact that the behind-the-scenes work is done by people who successfully distributed the albums by Rain and the Wonder Girls, and that the Hallyu wave is especially strong in Asia, chances are that Cube will be successful with this venture.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be completely shocked if Cube followed the US-debut trend and attempted to bring artists over to the States. If the Backstreet Boys, who made a comeback last year, can still make a ripple in the States, who knows... 4minute & BEAST may have a chance!

4MINUTE-BEAST are going international! CUBE-Universal strategic signing ceremony

포 미닛과 비스트가 속한 플레이 큐브 엔터테인먼트(이하 큐브)가 4일 세계적 음반회사 유니버설 뮤직 그룹(Universal Music Group, 이하 유니버설)과 상호 조인식을 체결했다. 이에 포미닛과 비스트가 해외진출의 교두보를 마련하며 한류스타로 발돋움할 초석을 다졌다.

유니버설은 큐브와의 전략적 제휴 소식을 발표하며 인터내셔널 사장 맥스 홀의 말을 인용, “유니버셜이 국내 가수의 아시아를 포함한 해외시장 진출 교두보 역할을 할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

유니버설과 큐브의 첫 합작 프로젝트는 포미닛이다. 2009년 6월 데뷔한 걸그룹 포미닛의 스페셜 패키지 앨범 ‘For Muzik’이 이 달 아시아 지역 8개국에서 동시 발매되고 일본에서도 빠른 시일 내에 발매된다.

포 미닛, 비스트 등을 성공적으로 출격시키며 정상급 매니지먼트사로 자리잡은 큐브는 전(前) JYP 엔터테인먼트의 CEO이자 월드스타 비와 원더걸스의 성공적인 해외진출을 이루어 낸 홍승성 대표와 신정화 대표가 함께 공동 CEO체제를 이루고 있다. 큐브에는 포미닛을 비롯하여 6인조 남성 아이돌그룹 비스트, 에디, 마리오, 영지 등 최근 젊은 층을 사로잡고 있는 톱 아티스트들이 소속되어 있다.

이번 협력에 대해 유니버설 사장 맥스 홀은 “유니버설 뮤직의 강력한 마케팅 전략과 네트워크를 통해 큐브 소속 아티스트들을 세계 시장에 소개하게 돼 기쁘다”며 “큐브와의 향후 협력이 매우 기대된다”고 기대감을 표했다.

큐 브 홍승성 대표는 “이번 전략적 제휴는 한국 가요산업에 새로운 시작을 가져올 것이라 확신한다”며 “유니버설 뮤직과의 협력을 통해 소속 아티스트들이 한국시장을 뛰어넘어 세계시장으로의 진출을 성공적으로 이루어낼 수 있기를 기대한다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

덧 붙여 유니버설뮤직 코리아 양범준 대표는 “세계적으로 인정받은 한국 출신 스타들로 인해 앞으로 가요가 전세계의 팬들로부터 많은 사랑을 받을 것”이라며 “더 많은 세계적인 스타들이 배출될 것으로 확신한다”며 한국 가요의 가능성에 자신감을 드러냈다.

한편 4일 조인식에서 맥스 홀은 조인식에 참석한 포미닛과 비스트를 직접 만나 멤버 한 명 한 명에게 인사를 건네고 그들의 넘치는 활력과 뛰어난 실력을 칭찬하며 해외 시장 진출에 대한 격려를 건넸다.

4MINUTE and BEAST's company PlayCUBE Entertainment concluded a mutual signing ceremony on January 4 with world-wide album company Universal Music Group. This is preparing 4MINUTE and BEAST for international promotions and is a stepping stone for the two groups to become Hallyu stars.

As Universal revealed their strategic cooperation with CUBE, International President Max Hall said, "Universal will play the role of preparing national artists to appear on an international level, which will include Asia."

Universal and CUBE's first collaboration project is 4MINUTE.

Regarding this collaboration, Universal president Max Hall said, "We're happy to use Universal Music's powerful marketing strategies and network to introduce CUBE company artists to the world market. We're excited for our upcoming collaboration with CUBE."

CUBE Hong SeungSung representative said, "This strategic cooperation will surely bring a fresh start to the Korean music industry. Through our collaboration with Universal Music, we expect that our artists will be able to jump over the Korean market and successfully appear in the world market."

On the 4th, Max Hall met the 4MINUTE and BEAST, greeted each member, praised their overwhelming energy and outstanding talent, and gave them words of encouragement regarding their entrance into the world market.

Oh-Sonyeo’s last member, Jina, to debut this summer

Do you guys remember the group Oh-Sonyeo (Five Girls)? It was a female group composed of five members: Yubin, Uee, Hyosung, and actress Yang Ji Won. The group was supposed to debut together until they got separated at the last minute. Well, Oh-Sonyeo's last member, Chae Jina, will finally make her debut this summer!

Jina (second to right in the picture above) is currently preparing for her debut album release this summer as a solo artist under BEAST and 4minute's agency, Cube Entertainment. To prepare for her debut, she will have her showcase in Cube's Star Party as well as in an event for Cube and Universal on the 5th at Seoul's Melon-AX hall.

In the past, Jina was cast in 2PM's music video for their debut-song "10 Points out of 10" along with Yubin.

The rest of the Oh-Sonyeo members have all experienced success in their careers as Yubin is in Wonder Girls, Uee in After School, Hyosung in Secret, and Ji Won (former member of T-ara) starring in hit-movies like More Than Blue and Death Bell. Will Jina have a success as a solo singer? We'll have to see.
