London: For some it? a tot of whisky, for others it? a milky drink, but Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney can? get off to sleep without the whir of a vacuum cleaner or his girlfriend? hairdryer.
"When I? on my own, I still not only like to have the TV and light on to help me sleep ? but also a vacuum cleaner," the England forward admits in his autobiography My Story So Far, serialised in the Mail on Sunday newspaper.
"Failing that a fan or a hairdryer will do. I?e ruined so many hairdryers by letting them burn out. Coleen (McLoughlin, his girlfriend) hates it. She won? let me turn on a vacuum cleaner or a fan, not when we?e together," he adds, recalling that the unusual habit began when he was a child. |

Sir Alex Ferguson is convinced Ben Foster has all the attributes required to become Manchester United and England's next number one goalkeeper.
Although he signed from Stoke 12 months ago, Foster was making his first Red Devils appearance when he turned out against Orlando Pirates in the first match of a three-game South Africa tour.
While Foster was not overly extended, he produced a solid performance, making two brave blocks, a couple of decent saves and proving he has a thunderous boot.
Ferguson still feels the 23-year-old needs greater experience, hence his decision to let the burly goalkeeper return to Watford on loan for a second season.
Having seen Foster become such an integral part of the Hornets' promotion to the Premiership last term, earning a call-up to England's World Cup standby list in the process, the United boss is eager to see how the Leamington Spa-born youngster adapts to life in the top flight.
And, judging by Ferguson's assessment of Foster's qualities, another impressive campaign at Watford could be the key to him eventually taking over from Edwin van der Sar as United's first choice.
"All the material is there," said Ferguson.
"He had a couple of tests yesterday but he coped with them very well.
"His handling is very good and he is a fantastic kicker of the ball. He can get the ball from a defensive position to behind your opponents' last line of defence very easily.
"He is quick across his area and has a great physique. All he needs now is experience." |

Liam Miller looks set to leave Manchester United once they receive a suitable offer for the former Leeds loanee.
In two years at Old Trafford, Miller has made only 22 first-team appearances and despite many senior players missing, he was still only a substitute in the opening game of their current tour of South Africa on Saturday.
The 25-year-old spent the latter half of last season on loan at Leeds, as he helped the Whites into the Championship play-off final.
But Leeds' failure to beat Watford at the Millennium Stadium spoiled any chance of Miller making a permanent move to Elland Road.
But Sir Alex Ferguson has accepted it would be better for all parties if Miller did move on and hopes a deal can be sorted out prior to the August transfer deadline.

Inter beat Fergie to Vieira
ALEX FERGUSON looks set to lose out to Inter Milan in the race for ex-Arsenal skipper Patrick Vieira for a knock-down ?10million.
France midfielder Vieira, 30, was prepared to return to the Premiership after his Juventus side were relegated in the Italian match-fixing scandal.
Manchester United boss Fergie was keen to put one over his arch-rival Arsene Wenger by signing one of the London club? favourite servants.
But it seems that while Fergie has been dithering with the Old Trafford board, Inter have swung into action.
A source close to Inter revealed: ?ieira is the No 1 target to replace Juan Veron, who has returned to Argentina.
?he sporting director, Marco Branca, has already met Vieira in London and now Inter are trying to open talks with Juventus to do the deal for ?10m straight away.?
One factor in Fergie? favour is that Juventus will appeal against their penalty of a 30-point deduction on top of the undisputed relegation to Serie B.
That could delay the Inter swoop ? and give United time to persuade Vieira that his future lies back in England.
Fergie could also move for Juve? Italian golden boy Alessandro Del Piero on a short-term deal, with his team-mate David Trezeguet a fall-back signing.:
Fiorentina hitman Luca Toni, 29, is another possible target for the Red Devils.
Toni was last season? European Golden Boot winner when his 31 strikes made him the first man in 47 years to break the 30-goal barrier in Serie A.
If ex-Gunner Vieira opts for Inter, he will almost certainly be going to the reigning Italian champions.
Last night Inter owner Massimo Moratti demanded his club be awarded the 2005-06 Serie A title for finishing third behind Juventus and AC Milan. |

Ronaldo will stay
CRISTIANO RONALDO will stay at Manchester United ? after a heart-to-heart with his MUM.
Maria Dolores persuaded her boy to remain at Old Trafford during a massive family dinner on Friday.
He had seemed set to quit English football after his World Cup bust-up with United team-mate Wayne Rooney.
Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid looked ready to offer him an escape route out of Old Trafford.
But last night Maria, 46, revealed: ?e will be at Manchester with all the players on the first day of training. He has a contract and he is going to honour it.
? am happy he is going back. The whole family is happy. He is OK with Man Utd. The coach has said that Manchester needs Cristiano.
?ny player would like to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona but, at the moment, he is at Manchester and he is going to stay at Manchester.?
Maria was speaking from her ?500,000 home on Madeira, where winger Ronaldo, 21, and girlfriend Merche Romer have been holidaying since Tuesday. |

Ole is Gunnar be so good
OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER? Durban double will hardly cause a ripple alongside his other 155 United goals.
But in a couple of months, the Norwegian hitman could look back on them as the strikes which sparked a fresh torrent for the biggest Old Trafford cult figure since Eric Cantona.
Solskjaer, 33, wondered if he would ever play again after two years of knee problems that required two operations, including revolutionary surgery.
But his value to United has never been in doubt, such that boss Alex Ferguson last season handed him a new two-year contract.
Team-mate Ryan Giggs is thrilled to see him firing on all cylinders again.
He said: ?t? just what he needed. He wants to score and that? what he has done today.
? hope this season he?l be a major part of the team.?
With Solskjaer and Paul Scholes back and Gabriel Heinze fit again ? assuming he stays ? things are looking up for Fergie despite the imminent departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Giggs added: ?ou always expect new faces and the manager? hoping to strengthen.
?ut with Ole, Scholesey and Gabby coming back, it will be like three new signings.?
The accolades did not stop with the old hands either.
Kieran Richardson is a man with plenty of his own to prove this season, not least after missing out on the World Cup squad.
But he, too, paid tribute to the returning hero.
Richardson said: ?le? great. He? always smiling and giving youngsters advice.
?e is an inspiration and to see him score two here was fantastic.
?? sure he will score goals for United in the Premiership again. He? such a great natural finisher.?
Solskjaer? goals came from a right-foot thunderbolt and a fast-feet tackle and prod under keeper Francis Chansa when Lehlohonolo Seema dithered.
They were his first for the club since he struck against Panathinaikos in the Champions League way back in September 2003.
Richardson and a Chansa own goal wrapped it up.
Solskjaer himself was delighted. He said: ?t? a while since I?e scored. I?e missed so much football that I?e been looking forward to this for a long time.
? feel sharper and fitter, enjoying every game and training session. The main thing is trying to get match fitness for August 20 . |

RINO GATTUSO was locked in talks with his agent last night over a ?ream? Manchester United move.
His AC Milan club have been thrown out of the Champions League and docked 15 points in Italy? match-fixing scandal.
And the World Cup-winning midfielder, 28, is well aware Alex Ferguson may make an offer for him.
Agent, Alessandro D?mico, said: ?e must think carefully about the situation and, over the next few days, decide the next step.?
Gattuso added: ?t has always been my dream to play for United.?
