Actor Won Bin Performs Military Duties at DMZ

As a serviceman, hallyu star Won Bin is now on sentry duty on an early morning
shift at a DMZ area.
Since he was enlisted last year, Won has been performing military duties as an
Army private at the 18th Sentry Post of the GOP (general outpost) Battalion of
the "Sangseung" (invincible) Regiment under the 7th Infantry Division of the Army
stationed in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province.
According to the Army Headquarters on Feb. 10, Won (his screen name), who is
using his real name in the barracks, is living with seven of his squad members at
the First Barracks of the battalion's new building built in November, 2004. His
platoon numbers about 30, including the platoon leader.
As his platoon's No. 2 rifleman, Won is performing his duties "determinedly" as a
member of the sentries on the most difficult "early morning shift" (from midnight
until before sunrise).
After he began serving in the Army, Won has reportedly avoided the media as
much as possible. But in an interview with The Korea Defense Daily, he said
resolutely, "I want to dedicate myself to my military life just like my comrades-in
-arms. I believe that life in the military will be of great service to each
serviceman's life."
He also showed his love for the other soldiers, saying, "My comrades-in-arms are
working really hard. I'm not the only serviceman who is working hard."
As he was enlisted at an older age than other servicemen, he is older than the
other squad members, which has made him try all the harder. Despite his low
rank as a private, Won is enthusiastic about everything, including cleaning up the
environment of the barracks, taking part in training programs and standing guard,
as befits an "older soldier."
Won is expected to come home on a 100-day furlough early next month.
He said hello to his fans, saying, "There will be no star 'Won Bin' while I'm
performing military duties. For the time being, I'm not going to pose for
photographs, give interviews or write autographs for fans. As an ordinary soldier,
I want to concentrate on my military duties. I'll see my fans as a grown-up man
two years later."
