Segundo Cernadas Teleserye

Rosela (Iza Calzado) does not know how to read or write, but there was one tale that she knew by heart – the story of Cinderella. And just like the fairy tale princess, she grew up never knowing who her real parents are and lived most of her young life enduring the cruelties of her wicked stepmother and stepsister.

Life was never easy for Rosela in the small fishing village she called home for many years. But her optimism never wavered. She stood firm and kept on believing that one day her prince will come, and together, they will live happily ever after.

One fateful day, she found a mysterious gentleman (Argentinian actor Segundo Cernadas) washed up on the town’s shore. Battered, bruised and barely alive, the handsome stranger suddenly awoke and caught a glimpse of his beautiful rescuer. Their eyes met for the very first time, yet somehow, a warm feeling radiated between the two lonely souls - as if, they’ve known each other for a long time. Little did they know that from that moment on – both of their lives will never be the same again.

They journey in a world filled with scandals, rumors, and murderers to find true love between each other. Each interaction sparks an attraction that cannot be denied by either of the characters. Although they find each other, there are other people scheming to destroy the beautiful relationship that has been formed. Will they be able to find happiness in the end?

AFTER importing the Meteor Garden series, perhaps the most popular Tsinovela shown in Philippine television, it is now the turn of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. to export its locally produced telenovelas abroad.

The company said Tuesday it would be offering its programs to new markets in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America this year following its success in Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei in 2002.Reena de Guzman Garingan, director for ABS-CBNinternational sales and distribution, said the network is slowly being recognized as a program supplier of Philippine series in the said Asian countries after two of the network drama series, The Promise (Pangako sa Iyo) and From the Heart (Mula Sa Puso) generated a huge following among Malaysians and Indonesians.Positioned as foreign programs catering to non-Filipino audience, the ABS-CBN exports its locally produced soap operas through licensing among program buyers and Free and Pay TV Networks.
Garingan said that Malaysia RTM and ASTRO Ria Channel as well as TVRI and ANTV in Indonesia have aired The Promise dubbed and subtitled in Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia. It is set to air The Long Wait (Kaytagal kang Hinintay) in March in another Malaysian TV station. Meanwhile, Kenya
Free TV network is expected to air its first Asian series, The Promise, in March among the Kenyans, which would be dubbed in English. ABS-CBN is currently negotiating to dub one of its series in French for the French-speaking Africans. The success of the initial run of our local series in these countries and the ongoing airing of these programs are indications that the world market is receiving Filipino programs well, Garingan said. She added that the entry of Mexican telenovelas and Chinese series in local television has opened the door for the network to export its series in the global market.Filipino local series have comparable production values and content as those of foreign telenovelas. The fact that our programs are enjoying the patronage of international audience means the quality of our series is very good in terms of picture quality as well as its story line, she said. With the good feedback for the local series among Asian countries, ABS-CBN is now also eyeing India, China and other Mandarin-speaking countries, as well as Eastern Europe and Latin America. Garingan said her team is particularly enthusiastic in targeting India.
It is the first time that the second most populous country in the world, India, is considering an Asian program supplier - ABS-CBN, Garingan said.

The first foreign program formats India adopted were quiz shows such as The Weakest Link, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Betty La Fea, which produced in Hindi and is not far that ABS-CBN shall conclude a deal with an Indian partner.

in Mexico

A famous Filipino soap opera (teleserye) will soon make its debut on Mexican primetime television. Mexicos Televisa has bought the rights to air GMA 7ga Mata Ni Anghelita.

Televisa executives said they bought the 70 episodes of Mga Mata Ni Anghelita because of one important factor - its religious theme. Historically, there are major similarities between the Philippines and Mexico because they were two of the first countries to be colonized by Spain in the 16th century, that is why religious practices and traditions are very similar.

Mga Mata Ni Anghelita began its telecast in GMA-7 primetime block last July 2007 as part of the Kapuso networks 57th anniversary offering.

It starred Krystal Reyes in the title role together with Sheryl Cruz, Carmina Villarroel, Ms. Celia Rodriguez , Tonton Gutierrez, Paolo Contis, Isabel Oli, and Marvin Agustin as the Guardian Angel Gabriel. The soap opera also had the special participation of Lucy Torres-Gomez as the Virgin Mary. This was from the direction of Khryss Adalia and Gil Tejada.

According to rating reports, the telenovelas Timeless and The Long Wait from the Philippine network ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation were top favorites in Malaysia. Basing on the information reported by AGBNMR during the first quarter of 2006, Timeless ranked No. 4 in that country’s
multi-weekly programs rating chart, scoring a 59% audience share. The same data revealed that Timeless and The Long Wait, outpaced a telenovela in the ratings game.

But it was not the only achievement of these telenovelas expanding successfully across Africa, Asia-Pacific, Indo-China and Europe. “African TV stations broadcast at least one ABS-CBN Philippine telenovela a day while the other TV stations air two to three times a week,” says Reena de Guzman-Garingan, International Sales and Distribution Director at ABSCBN Broadcasting Corporation. “There are channels that have been broadcasting two Philippine telenovelas from Monday to Friday and another one on Saturdays and Sundays. In countries like Kenya, Cameroon and Tanzania at least two networks are currently airing ABS-CBN Philippine telenovelas, which always consist in 45-to-50-minute episodes,” explains the executive.

A Philippine telenovela craze has indeed hit foreign countries, spawning websites and fan clubs, and making the Philippine cast hugely popular in the international scene. “Our telenovelas are the hot items in foreign newspapers; there’s the case of a TV station in Africa that delayed its launch hoping to have the Philippine telenovela stars to grace their celebration. The Philippine telenovela business in Africa is a phenomenon and has captured advertising revenues never achieved before by the networks,” states de Guzman-Garingan.

Why does Africa embrace Philippine stories?
The executive assures that the African telenovela audience has readily embraced Philippine telenovelas because of the mixture of distinct facial features on the screen, ranging from Asian to Spanish, and also explains that due to the infusion of multicultural context, they have captured both female and male audiences. “During the World Cup month, the time slots of The Promise, Timeless, The Long Wait and other ABS-CBN’s telenovelas airing on various networks across Africa were pre-empted. As a result, the male audience was warned by their wives of having no meals on their tables for not having their favorite Philippine telenovela on air.”

The company’s goal is to increasingly consolidate within the global market as their programs’ exports rise. Besides telenovelas, they sell and distribute formats, feature films, magazine programs and clips.
Among their most required programs, there are the telenovelas The Promise, Timeless and The Long Wait.

Most English speaking Cameroonians can not afford to miss an episode of Pangako Sa Yo's, "The Promise".

Its 7.00p.m., most tele-viewers are on the Cameroon Radio and Television (CRTV) channel to watch "The Promise". It is a Philippine film screened over CRTV. The film follows the trials and triumphs of Yna, Amor and Claudia - three women whose fates are intertwined with those of the aristocratic Buenavista clan. Their secrets and passions set the stage for the unfolding of a family drama that may lead to their happiness, or destroy them all.

"The Promise" is screened from Monday to Thursday, 7.00 p.m. to 7.25p.m. The atmosphere in most homes is usually calm as all eyes are glued to the television screen.

"The Promise" revolves around the story of a lovely house maid, Yna, who falls in love with her employer, Angelo. Their love story is destined to repeat. Years before, Yna's mother, Amor was also a housemaid in the Buenavista household, wherein Angelo's father, Eduardo was Dona Benita's favoured son. When their love affair was discovered, Dona Benita drove Amor away from the Hacienda. Rejected and oppressed, Amor left the province of Puntaverda but vowed to take avenge. Unknown to Eduardo, Amor was already carrying his child, Yna. Eduardo then married the powerful and influential, Claudia. One day, Amor meets Eduardo, she does not know if her daughter is still alive. A new cycle of love and passion begins in the film, with mysteries and secrets about to unfold.

The population's interest in watching the movie mounts daily. Atem Nelly Atem, a three year-old-child in Yaounde told her aunty that "if you do not have Ena, Angelo, Amoro, etc, in your television, I will not come to your home for holidays".

Telenovela Stars Coming
(1/11/2007)

Ghanaian fans of Timeless, the Telenovela which airs on TV3, will see fantasy turn to reality as the National Theatre in Accra hosts some of the top stars of the Asian soap opera on January 27.

Lovers of the Telenovela are expected to troop to the National Theatre to see live on stage Jericho Rosales, who plays Christian in Timeless, among others as he renders a sizzling and thrilling musical performance to his fans.

According to a press statement issued in Accra, Jericho, who has starred in numerous movies and pursued his music career with bands like The Hunks and Jeans, is set to come down with Kristine Hermosa (Ara) and Angelika Dela Cruz (Mary Ann), both co-stars in Timeless, for the concert which will also feature performances by Ghanaian award winners, Samini and Ofori Amponsah.

The visit to Ghana by the 28 year old Timeless and The Promise star from the Philippines is a way of expressing his gratitude for the love and support from his fan-base in Africa including Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Cameroon.

This first time musical concert would not only bring Telenovela lovers and their favourite stars in a face to face encounter but would also offer Timeless fans the chance to win free tickets to the concert, Jericho’s music CDs and invitation to an after party on Sunday by texting the word “Ticket, CD or Invitation” to One Touch short code 1945 from now till January 22.

Filipino singer-actor Jericho Rosales is a big hit in one of Africa's largest countries, after months of watching Pangako Sa 'Yo and Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas dubbed in English.

The locals of Ghana finally had the thrill of seeing Jericho Rosales live in the flesh when he performed as the main act in the 50th Independence Anniversary festivities at the National Theatre last March 6.

"Their reaction to his visit was nothing short of wild hysteria, matching the excitement of the visits of Thalia, Pope John Paul II and F4," enthused Jericho's Management Associate, Marinez Elizalde of Manila Genesis Entertainment and Management.

"People showed up at the airport, along the streets, en route to the hotel and every place that Jericho would go. We were both so shocked. Even little kids would run to him and give him hugs and handshakes. It was amazing!" she added.

The alternate chanting and shrieking of "Christian!" and "Angelo!" (the characters Jericho played on Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas and Pangako Sa 'Yo respectively) by the frenzied mob clearly certified the 2 teleseryes as smash hits in Ghana.

"People would drop everything just to watch these shows, and have clamored for more Jericho's shows to be aired!", reported Janet Carboo-Danquah, Manager for Public Relations of Ghana's local TV3 Network.

Arranged by the promoter, Dzigbodi Attotey of N.A.G. Media Ltd., Jericho appeared on Ghana local television programs Music Music and Start where he promoted his album, and talked about the Philippines in interviews. Local radio stations committed to airplay songs from his album: Jeans Loose Fit (distributed by EMI Records). Jericho wrote all the songs in the album.

At showtime, which also featured Ghanaian award winners Batman Samini, Ofori Amposnsah and Ebo, pandemonium broke out at Jericho's initial appearance on stage rendering Nightsky, a cut from his album. Displaying his versatility as a singer apart from being an actor, Jericho's energy soared higher with his dynamic performance of MR. MART, yet another cut from the same album, as the cheering African audience rocked the theater. The only cover in his repertoire that night was John Legend's Ordinary People, which he dedicated to the appreciative crowd with which he exhorted the appreciative crowd not to act rashly but to think things through, just "take it slow, _cause you and I are all ordinary people."
