Doojoon’s audition clip for JYP Entertainment
2009 may have been the year of girl groups, but the handful of boybands that debuted in the latter half can't possibly go unnoticed.Take, for example, the six gentlemen from Cube Entertainment who eventually formed BEAST (Boys of the East Standing Tall).
BEAST's debut was a highly-anticipated one as many people were already familiar with the individual members. Yoon Doojoon, the team's leader, had trained under JYP Entertainment for a long time and even appeared in the Mnet documentary "Hot Blood" alongside 2PM and 2AM.
A video clip of Doojoon during his pre-debut days has found its way inthe hands of the public. The leader of BEAST flaunts his vocals duringhis audition, which attests to the talent he possessed even before hejoined a group. Talk about an early bloomer.
Aside from singing his rendition of Brian McKnight's One Last Cry, Fly to the Sky's Missing You, and Neyo's So Sick, Doojoon expresses that he wants to become a singer like Maxwell and Brown Eyed Soul and that he is also a fan of the Wonder Girls.
Just imagine: this guy could have almost ended up as your P.E. teacher. Thank goodness JYP got a hold of him before a high school principal did.

There's saying that states "to not dictate your love, at first glance". Although they believe they're a group with no particular characteristics, that thought, like an Andromeda, should be quickly thrown out. The day is coming when these 6 boys will be standing tall across Asia. It is no mere exaggeration when they stated that they've only shown a mere speck of what they're capable of this past year.
In the deluge of such massive flood of idols, they were able to pull together by working through their personalities and teamwork to emerge as rookies, living up to their name, BEAST. In order to simply appeal to the mass public, the concept of the mini-album was made for easy, comfortable listening.
Within the album, there's a great balance between the cute, friendly 'Pet idol' side of BEAST through their song 'Bad Girl', and their manly side from their follow-up song, 'Mystery'. Within their album, there's a song which the members say take much care in called "Oasis". Apparently it's a song written as a tribute to BEAST fans. Thus, if you are that beloved BEAST fan, don't forget to check it out.
As they try to take a foothold in the world, taking a step at a time, one can sense a mixture of previous wounds of unrequited dreams and level of confidence in their eyes, ever so increasing our curiosity and expectation of what would become of them next.
BEAST is the Best
T7: There seems to be a lot of idol groups lately. What do you think BEAST's specialty is, if you even have one?
B: Personality perhaps? I think all six of us have distinct characteritics.
T7: How does it feel having a nicname "Pet Idols"?
B: Honestly, I think they started calling us Pet Idols because of Yoseobie. Even for us, he looks cute just by looking at him. Just like a pet, you want to keep him by your side. Although the rest of the members' individual characters have not been revealed as of yet, we hope to have a distinct nicname ,like Yoseobie's, one day.
T7: Who do you consider your role model?
B: Shinhwa and GOD seniors. We look up to Shinhwa seniors' unique singing and performing abilities. And as you well know, GOD members were well known for being loved by the masses;thus, we aspire to be like them.
T7: Not too long ago, you guys held your very first fan signing event, how did it feel to meet your fans face to face?
B: I was really shocked to see such great attendance. Although our time very was short, the fact that we were able to meet them upfront made us very ecstatic.
T7: Were there any fans that you remember, that stood out?
B: There was a fan that brought us a whole chicken. She brought it to our first fan signing event. She also appeared for the 2nd meeting. Alas, she brought us another one. This time two. We used them to make baeksook and ate it.
T7: This past December 12, heard BEAST members were nominated for "Rookie Music Award". I know it has great meaning particularly among new idol groups. Tell us your future activities and aspirations?
B First, we're very thankful. Without ever losing our intention of wanting to be the best, BEAST will like to be known for continually trying our best in everything that we do. So please stay tuned.

T7: I'm sure there are situations that were not aired between you and 2PM members? Since you guys have been close friends since your training days, I'm sure they've given you some advice as a new artist? Can you share any stories?
DJ:Now that I get to see them on stage, I'm really happy. We mostly talk about stories when we used to live together at the dorm. Like family members, we really had a lot of fun.
T7ompare to your training days, what do you feel that you have developed most?
DJ: I think my dancing has definitely improved. I used to worry a lot because I had trouble in keeping my expression and gesture to look more natural.
T7:So I heard that you just came back from Africa due to filming of the new Sunday Sunday Night Show? Because the show was conducted under top secrecy, there were a lot of rumors going around, such as you leaving the group. Can you elaborate?
DJ was extremely frustrated,and wanted to immediately come back to remedy the situation; however, I was not in a position where I was able to. It deeply trouble me.
T7:What was the most memorable moment you'll never forget in Africa.
DJ:We made some balloon animals for the children. Played some soccer... sang some songs together. Children are innocent and cute, no matter where you go.
T7:When do you feel like it's most difficult being a team leader?
DJ: Having responsibilities...duties... and having to get up first to wake everyone up makes it difficult.
