Glay wraps up national tour at Saitama Super Arena

Monday 07th February, 11:02 AM JST

SAITAMA —

Rock band Glay wrapped up their all-Japan tour at the Saitama Super Arena on Sunday. For the final stop on the tour, Glay performed before approximately 20,000 fans and included their hit, “Yuwaku” and new single, “Precious.”

Glay recorded the highest turnout in the history of Japanese music in 1999, when 200,000 fans attended a single performance during their “Pure Soul” tour. Vocalist Teru described the record-setting event as “a dream come true” and wrapped up their recent tour with a plea for audiences to cheer them on in accomplishing a similar turnout again.

The tour featured 37 performances in 29 venues. Next the band will hold live performances on July 30 and 31 to commemorate the 15th year since the founding of their fan club.

GLAY to cover Oasis song “Don’t Look Back In Anger” over the radio

In order to promote their upcoming concept compilation albums, “rare collectives vol.3″ and “rare collectives vol.4″, rock band GLAY will be singing their own rendition of the famous Oasis song, “Don’t Look Back in Anger”!

The popular song is included on GLAY’s album, “rare collectives vol.4″, and has special meaning to band member TAKURO, who greatly respects the English rock band’s lead guitarist and vocalist, Noel Gallagher, for his songwriting skills.

TAKURO has been a big fan of Oasis since they made their debut in 1991, and when the band split up due to a backstage incident eleven years ago, the GLAY member is said to have commented, “They broke up from a fight between brothers (Noel and Liam), but I’d love to see Noel play on stage with Oasis one more time.”

From February 28th until March 1st, GLAY will perform the song live on national radio stations, leading up to the release of their albums on March 9th.

GLAY contributes $240,000 USD to disaster relief

On March 14th, J-rock band GLAY donated 20 million yen (~$240,000 USD) to aid with the disaster relief through the Asahi Shimbun Social Welfare Organization.

Members TAKURO, HISASHI, JIRO, and TERU expressed, “In midst of the continuing aftershocks, we hope we can be of even a little help to the people who are suffering in the disaster … We will continue praying that the damages don’t escalate further.”

GLAY has actively done charity work in the past, keeping in mind the following message: “Is there something we can do for society, other than singing?“. Last year, they donated 93 uniforms (valued at ~$12,000 USD) to students at a middle school in the bankrupt city of Yubari, with TAKURO and TERU handing them out personally. When Miyazaki prefecture had a problem with foot-and-mouth disease, they donated 1 million yen (~$12,000 USD) through a local news agency.

GLAY’s TERU supports earthquake victims with a new song

GLAY’s TERU has revealed a song he composed specifically for the earthquake victims through his Twitter account today. The song is titled “Sukoshidemo Yasuragi wo“, which translates to “For even a little bit of peace”.

TERU is heard singing along soothingly to an acoustic guitar.

GLAY recently donated $240,000 USD for disaster relief, and it looks like TERU is continuing to help the cause through music.

Here are the Japanese lyrics followed by the English translation:

君の優しい声が聞こえるような気がして
時々、祈るように夜空を見上げる
遠く繋がる空
君も見ているかな
この思い届けたくて僕は歌う

Thank you for your love x4

静寂な夜の中
そっと瞳を閉じて
愛する人を重いやさしく唱える
夢で会いましょう、おやすみ
また明日を変えたくて僕は歌う

Thank you for your love x4

「おやすみ」

I felt like I could hear your kind voice, so
Occasionally, I look at the night sky as if to pray
The faraway, connected sky
Are you looking at it too
I sing because I want to send this thought

Thank you for your love x4

In the middle of the quiet night
Softly closing my eyes
While thinking of a loved one, I gently chant
Let’s meet in our dreams, good night
I want to change tomorrow, so again I sing

Thank you for your love x4

“Goodnight”

sedih dan terharu baca mesej Takuro nih...

Hi Friends! It's me, Takuro.

First of all, I want to thank you for your prayers, thoughts, and support for JAPAN during this time of great adversity.
Together, I truely believe we'll be able to make it though this dark night.

Everyday we wake up to face the same great fears all of us share.
People have been strong, but the experience has left many of us emotionally exhausted.

I realize more than ever how important it is to express your emotions and feelings and not hold them inside.

I could feel my own fear and anxiety building up over the past weeks,
even though it was hard to pinpoint the cause.

Four days ago, I had a crappy day at the office, and I came home in a bad mood.
I was tired and got angry at my son when he started misbehaving before bedtime.
Finally, we got kids to bed and my wife soon joined them, leaving me alone in the living room
with the TV as my only company.
The nightly news, as usual, was showing images of all the terrible things that never seem to stop,
and I broke down and started crying like a baby.
I kept crying like that, and I guess I didn't realize my son had woken up and wandered into the living room. Seeing his father like that, I imagine he probably wanted to start crying too.
Instead, he walked up to me, held up his hands, and started wiping away my tears with the sleeves of his little pajamas.
I could't stop my tears.

The next day I woke up and it was clear to me that I need to be strong as a father, as a musician, and as a citizen of JAPAN.

Charts: AKB48, Lady Gaga, GLAY
Posted on June 1, 2011 by tokyograph

Idol group AKB48 took #1 on the sales charts this week, as they set a new all-time record for highest first-week sales at more than 1.33 million copies. “Everyday, Kachusha” also set the record for highest first-day sales (942,475) and went on to reach the 1 million mark in its second day in stores.

This week’s top ten consisted almost entirely of new releases, but one of the more notable ones was “Maru Maru Mori Mori!” at #3. The song was sung by 6-year-old stars Ashida Mana and Suzuki Fuku (and a talking dog) as the theme song for their drama series “Marumo no Okite.” At an average age of 6 years old, they are now the youngest group ever to have a Top 10 single. The previous record was 10.5 years old, set by Kigurumi with the song “Tarako Tarako Tarako” in 2006. Counting solo artists, they are tied with Minagawa Osamu, whose “Kuroneko no Tango” topped the charts in 1969.

AKB48 – Everyday, Kachusha – 1,333,969
Team Amuse!! – Let's try again – 189,917
Kaoru to Yuki, Tama ni Mook – Maru Maru Mori Mori! – 34,781
TOKIO – Miageta Ryusei – 25,370
the GazettE – VORTEX – 23,902

Kuroyume – Aron – 15,489
Horie Yui – PRESENTER – 14,438
Perfume – Laser Beam / Kasuka na Kaori – 13,615

In albums, the #1 spot went to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” selling close to 184,000 copies. This is her first time to top the charts in Japan. The last foreign solo artist to have a #1 album was Michael Jackson in 2009.

Lady Gaga – Born This Way – 183,845
UNICORN – Z – 54,139
capsule – WORLD OF FANTASY – 20,814
Amuro Namie – Checkmate! – 17,597
Hirano Aya – AYA MUSEUM – 14,043
NAOTO INTI RAYMI – ADVENTURE – 12,437
BIGBANG – The Ultimate -International Best- – 12,100
Various Artists – Songs For Japan – 11,872
Jennifer Lopez – Love? – 7,854
Tokunaga Hideaki – VOCALIST & BALLADE BEST – 7,550

In DVDs and Blu-rays, rock band GLAY topped both rankings in the music category, with sales of 17,000 and 19,000, respectively. They are now the 6th male artist to achieve #1 on the music DVD and music BD charts, following in the footsteps of Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, Kobukuro, B'z, Inaba Koshi, and Kanjani8.
