Arashi's "All the BEST! 1999-2009" has just captured the crown for the highest sales of any album in 2009. The collection has now sold 1.240 million copies, barely passing Mr.Children's "SUPERMARKET FANTASY."
"All the BEST!" sold 753,000 copies in the first week after its release on August 19, setting this year's record for first-week sales. Now, in its fifth week, it sold 40,000 more copies to push it past the 1.239 million total of Mr.Children's album. That one, however, has been on sale for 41 weeks, starting in December 2008.
Arashi already holds this year's current highest selling single ("Believe / Kumori Nochi, Kaisei" with 655,000 copies) and music DVD ("ARASHI AROUND ASIA 2008 in Tokyo" with 401,000 copies).

Stars often appear all over a network for a day to promote a new movieor album, but Johnny's Jimusho idol group Arashi are to take over NTVfor a whole week. The group are celebrating the 10th anniversary oftheir debut in November. To mark the occasion, various members of thegroup will appear on an estimated 50 hours of programming during aseven-day period. They'll make live appearances on the network's mostpopular variety and news shows and will perform their hits during aspecial live concert. The final dates have yet to be announced.
With the members of fellow Johnny's group SMAP now all into their 30's,Arashi have a strong hold on the teenage and young adult fan base. Butalthough they have a string of No.1 hits, it was only with the recentrelease of a greatest hits album, "All the Best, 1999-2009" that theyhad their first million seller. The upcoming "hijacking" of the NTVnetwork is to show that they are now established as major stars and,perhaps more than anything else, make it clear to corporate sponsorsthat they are the group of the moment. The five members of Arashi areOhno Satoshi (28), Sakurai Sho (27), Aiba Masaki (26), NinomiyaKazunari (26) and Matsumoto Jun (26).

Otokogumi's Shoji Narita arrested

Shoji Narita (41), a former guitarist for rock band Otokogumi
, has been arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession.
Investigators from the Shibuya police station conducted a search of
Narita's home on Sunday, finding several grams of marijuana. Narita
reportedly admitted that he was keeping the drugs for personal use.
Otokogumi released their debut single under Johnny's Jimusho in 1988 and
were popular up until their breakup in 1993. Currently, Kenichi Okamoto is
the only member of the band still signed with Johnny's Jimusho.

Publisher sued over unauthorized books of Arashi, KAT-TUN

Tokyo-based publisher R's Shuppan is being sued over sales of unauthorized books featuring the members of idol groups Arashi and KAT-TUN. The first hearing was held in court on Tuesday.
R's Shuppan is accused of publishing twelve books between 2005 and 2008, using the names and photos of the groups' members for commercial purpose without permission. The plaintiffs are reportedly seeking more than 170 million yen in damages.
The publisher requested to have the lawsuit dismissed, claiming that the books simply traced the history of the groups and did not count as a violation of their right to publicity. However, the plaintiffs argued that the violation is clear, pointing out that the majority of the books' pages contain unauthorized images.
