Crystal Kay's best album ranked 3rd on the charts, followed by American singer Ne-Yo. Beni Arashiro (now known as just BENI) was #5 with her latest album. The other new releases in the top ten were Ayaka Hirahara (#6), a "K-On!" soundtrack (#8), Base Ball Bear (#9), and hip-hop group AK-69 (#10).

Singer Kondo Masahiko (45, photo left) looked a bit battered at a press conference yesterday. With his right arm in a sling, "Matchy" said he had fractured his shoulder blade while participating in the Sado Island Long Distance International Triathlon last weekend. He has a long history of participation in sports and endurance events, and took part in the triathlon privately. After swimming 2km, and 10km into the cycling stage, he braked for a water stop and fell off his bicycle. "Though I noticed some pain," he said, "I never thought about giving up." He continued the race, finishing the 105km cycling and 20km run for a total time of 7 hours 13 minutes, well within the 8-hour target he had set for himself. Yesterday's press event was for the La Festa Mille Miglia 2009 classic car rally, scheduled for October 10-13. The 1,000-mile (1,600km) race starts and ends in central Tokyo. Kondo says he still plans to take part for the full four days.

Kubozuka tries theater in Yukio Ninagawa play
Sun, September 13, 2009 (4:24am EDT)
Actor and reggae artist Yosuke Kubozuka (30) has been given his first acting role in a stage play. He will be a supporting character in "Chi wa Tatta Mama Nemutteiru," which stars Go Morita (30) of V6.
The play is being directed by Yukio Ninagawa and was written by the late playwright Shuji Terayama. Morita and Kubozuka plays friends who are terrorists. However, they come into conflict when Kubozuka falls in love with Morita's sister and becomes hesitant about their destructive activities.
Ninagawa said that he has watched all of Kubozuka's films and listened to all of his CDs. He hoped to someday work together with him, and this play will finally give him that opportunity. "Chi wa Tatta Mama Nemutteiru" will be performed at the Bunkamura Theatre Cocoon in Shibuya next January.
Kubozuka recently also made his debut as a photographer. In July, he shot the pictures for a photobook of actress Naoko Watanabe (25), which went on sale this past Friday. The two belong to the same management agency.
