2008 Proton Persona SE

The Persona SE is only available in two colours - Blue Haze and Brilliant Red. Like all new units of the Persona, the new Proton Persona SE is powered by the Campro IAFM engine which offers a smoother torque curve compared to the old Campro engine. It is only available with an automatic transmission.

The following are the differences in equipment for the special edition model:

    * Leather-wrapped seats, steering wheel, gear knob and trim
    * Meter panel from the GEN2 CPS
    * Different alloy wheel design (15 inch)
    * Cruise Control
    * Smoked headlamps
    * Silver matte door handles and front grille
    * A bodykit consisting of front, side and rear skirts and a subtle spoiler
    * A Proton-rebadged windscreen-mounted GPS navigation device

The GPS device loads its maps from an SD card, so it should be easy to replace the maps whenever there are updates. I noticed there were some points of interests loaded onto the map such as local restaurants so if youre in an area you do not know and want to grab a quick bite the GPS should be quite useful in that sense.

Proton Campro turbo engine by 2010-2011

Proton managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin told the Oman Economic Review that Proton was developing a turbocharged engine set for introduction by the years 2010 to 2011, just in time for a facelift of the 2009 Proton MPV which could see the introduction of this turbocharged engine.

The turbocharged engine would be in line with the current market trends of having a small displacement engine but forced inducted to produce the equivalent horsepower of a larger motor, usually with more torque, and more fuel efficiency. The engine will have the power output equivalent to a 2.0 liter engine. We could be looking at a 1.6 liter Campro turbo or Campro CPS turbo engine producing about 150 horsepower and perhaps 240Nm of torque.

Proton is also set to spend RM5 billion over the next 5 years on R&D efforts, which is about RM1 billion a year. Other efforts (as quoted in the report) include developing a small competitive car, acquiring diesel engines licensed from an international OEM (Fiat? Peugeot?) because of their popularity in markets such as India, hybrid and electric technologies, the possibility of a joint model with Lotus (spiritual successor to the Lotus Carlton based on a Proton maybe?), and the reduction of weight of Proton models.

Proton Exora - My Story

15 April 2009

Gosh,  it seems such a long time since we started conceptualizing the Proton first people mover. More so if we were to take into account the initial spark which started our foray into realizing Malaysia 1st homegrown MPV.  My involvement actually began from the first year I came to Proton over a decade ago.

As a company Proton has always wanted to contribute to society. And in all honesty we knew how the trend was moving and there was an anticipation towards people carriers being prevalent in our markets. But I guess being in a GLC there always 憈he bigger picture of national interest which inadvertently overshadowed everything else. This is normal and in some ways has helped us to steer away from global crisis (like the on going economic predicament the entire world economy is in). After many, many experimentation and feasibility studies the P6 project began in earnest in 2006.

The Exora is an expression of the people. It was from that simple idea that we came to create the shape that is Exora. This is not a car for the exclusive, it is not meant for a select few. Its design is appealing for people from all walks of life and most incredible is how the design is able to be adapted both upwards or downwards the customer demographic. Thats what called simplicity at its best. We could have done something avant garde but would our customers buy in the sudden shift in design philosophy? I think not. The irony is that the general populace always want more and more but in reality most probably will not be willing to pay for it. Rest assured, this Exora is affordable and rich in features.

The Exora both inside and out is modern and progressive. Its svelt lines and generous curves, like most cars today, is dynamic in nature and this is expressed in the total visual language. Inside, we are added cues which reflect the current home trends; warm hues coupled with soft, flowing forms. Tactile surfaces exemplified by the natural textures give the interior a positive ambiance towards the occupants. Technology we can feel.

From Proton Design point of view, the Exora is the next step in our transformation. For now, it is the last major design to be safe. It is, in retrospect, the start of a paradigm shift towards the reinvention of our DNA. The future is so very exciting as we move even further towards progressive modernity. This, ladies and gentlemen, is Styling 2.0.

To my team, I thank you for your dedication and perseverance. To our supporters we are indebted for your ability to see beyond the obvious and towards the the future. To our families, your understanding over the years is invaluable.

Hello Proton Exora! You will be amazed!
