LIVERPOOL, England, March 16 (Reuters) - Michael Owen will retain his Liverpool place despite his dearth of goals, according to manager Gerard Houllier.
Owen has found the target three times in 17 club games while also missing two penalties.

His latest miss from the spot came in the 2-0 defeat by Southampton on Sunday. He also hit the post when presented with an empty net and Owen's body language throughout suggested lack of confidence.
"Michael was low after the game but he's a star player who is going through a difficult period," Houllier told reporters on Tuesday.
"We have to appreciate his talent. He has won games for us in the past and he deserves the backing of his team mates and manager and will get that. He will start against Portsmouth (on Wednesday).
"I'm not worried about him. I would only worry if he didn't get into positions to score."
Owen has netted 151 goals in 256 starts for Liverpool but has struggled this season.
There have also been problems off the pitch, including his fiancee spending time in hospital with a bad pelvis injury after falling from her horse.
Owen's season was also interrupted before Christmas with a series of shin and ankle injuries which would also have worried England coach Sven Goran Eriksson.
While Houllier insisted the striker would be back among the goals soon, his career as a penalty-taker may be under review.
"I have spoken to Michael but that's a private conversation," Houllier said. "I am happy for him to keep taking penalties if he wants to take penalties."
