KUALA LUMPUR: Barely hours after DAP declared that Pakatan Rakyat no longer existed, PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz (pic) insists that the coalition is still alive.
“DAP said it is over but Pakatan is not. As long as there are two parties and above in the pact, it still exists.
“It now depends on PKR and PAS,” he told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby, Tuesday.
He said any proposal for Pakatan to be abolished must be deliberated by all three Opposition parties.
“DAP is free to make their decision. But PAS will make our own call as well. Let there not be any pressure on PAS to make a decision until the Syura Council meets,” said the Pasir Mas MP.
Asked to comment if PKR took a similar stand as DAP, he said, “We will see when the time comes.”
Nik Abduh said he would accept any party’s offer to be a middle man but felt PKR was the best since it was a member in Pakatan.
PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan said PAS will hold a meeting following the news of DAP declaring that Pakatan had ceased to exist.
“At this point, we cannot make any assumptions. We will hold a meeting with our top leadership to discuss the next course of action,” said the Temerloh MP.
DAP lawmaker Dr Ko Chung Sen said PAS' decision to sever ties with DAP during the PAS muktamar was the "final nail in the coffin to bury Pakatan."
"However, a new Pakatan will be born, rise up and be stronger than before. It is for the better," said the Kampar MP.
