Tom Hiddleston to Star in King Kong Origin Pic ‘Skull Island’

Legendary Entertainment’s “Skull Island” is getting ready to roar, as it has tapped Tom Hiddleston to star in and Jordan Vogt-Roberts to direct the feature film based on the origins of King Kong.
The film will focus on the giant gorilla’s mysterious and dangerous world — something previous films in the genre have only touched on. Max Borenstein, who also wrote the screenplay for Legendary’s “Godzilla” reboot, penned the first draft. Character details were not available.
Legendary has moved quickly to get this pic off the ground after announcing it at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego. The company was looking at Joe Cornish as a possible director, but moved on when he was occupied with Universal’s spy pic “Section Six.”

Hiddleston, who is best known for his role in the “Avengers” films, will also star in Legendary’s upcoming “Crimson Peak” horror film from director Guillermo del Toro. He is repped by William Morris Endeavor, Hamilton Hodell and Authentic Management.
Vogt-Roberts directed (and exec produced) the 2013 coming-of-age comedy-drama “The Kings of Summer,” as well as episodes of the new FX comedy “You’re the Worst.” He is repped by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment and attorneys Alan Wertheimer and Andy Gawker.
Universal Pictures will distribute the film on November 4, 2016.
