Edwin van der Sar: Had an easy save from a Gerrard shot at the start of the second half but I struggle to remember anything else. 6
Wes Brown: Embarassingly skinned by Babel on one occasion, he handled the threat of the Dutchman quite well. And he scored a GOAL! I mean, Wes Brown SCORED!8
Rio Ferdinand: Really stupid yellow but there you go. Put Torres in his pocket again. 7
Nemanja Vidic: Did what he always does: did not let anyone go past him. 7
Patrice Evra: Composed, focused, solid. Took Kuyt off the park though that's not a great achievement in itself. 7
Cristiano Ronaldo: Difficult to mark. Contributed little to the build-up but could have had a hat-trick and eventually scored the all-important second goal. 8
Anderson: Could have had an assist but his shooting needs a lot of work. Not at his best but still passed the ball around superbly, working seamlessly with Scholes and Carrick. 7
Michael Carrick: Showed Gerrard how do dictate from the midfield. Probably had one bad pass, no more, good tackling, brilliant passing, fantastic sense of rhythm. Not good enough for England? You'r e having a laugh. 9
Paul Scholes: I thought he would be useless in such a tight, intense game with his fading stamina and pace. Then he goes on to be man of the match, along with Carrick. His passing was a joy to behold. 9
Ryan Giggs: Quiet though Reina almost fumbled one of his crosses into his own net. Did a solid job. 6
Wayne Rooney: Ended up with two assists after missing about 35 chances to score, yet again. Brilliant all-round work, shielded and passed the ball well, beat defenders with ease but just could not get past Reina. Should have had a penalty in the fifth minute when Carragher kicked him from behind as he missed his chance. 8
Luis Nani: Replaced Giggs. An assist and a goal and a wonderful piece of acrobatics again. He can do the job when it matters most. 8
Carlos Tevez: Replaced Anderson. Missed a great chance but not much impact. 6 |
