I will enjoy this break to recharge my batteries, says World Number One Lee Chong Wei
Malaysia’s best ever player, Lee Chong Wei, who has been busy in competing international events for the last 12 months, has finally got a small break and he wants to enjoy it and regain his energy for the next events.
The 29-year-old Chong Wei, who has been the World Number One for the last three years, has been playing top class badminton for the last one year and has won numerous Super Series tournaments.
In the opening weeks of current year, Chong Wei maintained his top position by winning two Super Series title in a row. He won the Men’s Singles titles in Korea Open and Malaysia Open to prove that despite being fatigued, he can still beat the world with his incredible skills.
He won the Malaysia Open Series for the eighth time during his professional career that proves his higher standard among the other Malaysian shuttlers.
In the ending months of 2010, Chong Wei failed to continue his winning form and lost to his major Chinese opponents, Lin Dan and Chen Long. But in the opening weeks of current year, he has left his losing streak behind and has got his killing form back.
Now the top seed has got a short break and wants to utilise it to regain his strength and to enjoy the Chinese New Year.
In this break, Chong Wei will remain focused in his training and will work on to get physical fitness and mental toughness to perform well in the upcoming events including Olympic Games.
He said, “After a tough season last year, I will enjoy this break to recharge my batteries ahead of the coming battles. However, I will not rest on my laurels. I will definitely have to be on my toes as I know the Chinese players will want revenge for their poor start to the year.”
While talking about his recent performance, he said that he is feeling great with his two consecutive victories in back-to-back tournaments.
“It’s great to have won back-to-back Superseries tournaments and to have beaten my two biggest rivals en route to winning,” said Chong Wei.
Now, the World Number One aims to remain fit and perform well in upcoming events to get a better seeding in the 2012 Olympic Games. |

Unity in sports Posted on 18 January 2012 - 07:14pm

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 18, 2012): There is unity in sports as it can be a means to promote the spirit of 1Malaysia, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said.
Sports can unite people no matter the distinction, race, and even nationality, he said, citing badminton champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei's friendship with his Indonesian counterpart Taufik Hidayat.
"In his autobiography, Lee refers to Taufik as his best friend. Lee befriends players from all over the world including Indonesia, Japan, and China.
"He embodies the spirit of sportsmanship where friendship comes second to competition," Koh said at the launch of the autobiography at the Sports Arena Sentosa here today.
The book is published in two versions, with the English copy titled Dare to be a Champion while the Chinese copy titled "The Losing One Can Be King."
It chronicles Lee's life, from the hardship of his childhood to all the challenges he had to overcome to be the world number one badminton champion.
The Chinese trade paperback edition of the book will be exclusively available at Popular bookstore for RM35. The English trade paperback edition of the book is sold for RM38 at all book stores.
Attendees of the event were given a chance to buy one of the 688 copies of the special hardback double edition of the book, priced at RM99.
Lee has won 41 badminton championships throughout his career and won the Malaysian Open and the Korean Open in this year alone.
On the upcoming Thomas Cup, Lee said it does not matter if the Malaysian team win or loose, he and the team will play and do their best.
A total of 1,688 copies of the book were donated to Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia and are to be distributed to various schools throughout Malaysia.
The event also marked the launch of Lee's fan club and saw the signing ceremony of a comic book publishing contract between Gempak Starz Sdn Bhd and Lee Chong Wei Dot Com to produce a graphic novel entitled "Jejak Libasan Jaguh." |

yg paling menyetuh perasaan aku bila Lcw kata waktu dia umur 19 tahun di satu kejohanan, dia masih ingat lagi di satu corner....Misbun tanya dia..."you mahu apa ?" ....saya jawab "coach....saya mahu jadi best player" ...misbun kata "ok, berikan seluruh tenaga kamu, saya akan latih kamu " ...."Misbun bawa saya sehingga jadi world Number 1" ...tambah LCW
LCW juga sifatkan misbun adalah jurulatih paling berpengaruh yg membentuk dirinya menjadi pemain no 1 dunia... |

Chong Wei: Thomas Cup squad may struggle to qualify
KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei has delivered the cold hard truth regarding Malaysia’s Thomas Cup squad: “We are simply not good enough.”
Besides four-time Thomas Cupper Chong Wei, the other men’s singles in the squad are Liew Daren, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and the surprise recall of KLRC’s Mohd Hafiz Hashim in second singles.
The men’s doubles will have Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah, Hoon Thien How and Teo Kok Siang.
Thien How and Kok Siang are only just recovering from injuries.
Read all about it: Lee Chong Wei posing with his book ‘Dare to be Champion’ at the Kuala Lumpur Sports Arena.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong have traditionally delivered the goods but they have been troubled by poor form lately, with the latest embarrassment being a second round exit in the Malaysia Open at the hands of fourth ranked Korean pair Kim Ki-jung-Kim Sa-rang.
The second doubles of V Shem-Khim Wah too have been finding consistency hard to come by, in particular the latter and the pair could be split up in order to pair V Shem with Kok Siang.
It is, however, in men’s singles that Malaysia’s lack of depth has been severely exposed and the recall of Hafiz sums it all up.
And Chong Wei, fresh from winning his eighth Malaysia Open title, admitted that the current squad is definitely weak, but he is ready to shoulder the burden.
“This year is certainly a big one with the Olympics in July being my main priority,” said the 29-year-old Penangite.
“The Thomas Cup squad is definitely weak and we may struggle to qualify but as the senior player in the squad, I am ready to shoulder the responsibility of leading the team.”
The Thomas Cup qualifiers will be held in Macau next month.
Chong Wei, who also won the Korean Open earlier this month, added that winning a third straight All England title would represent his best possible start in the year but it will not be easy.
“Winning in Korea and the Malaysia Open last week has certainly raised my spirits and confidence and it would be nice to win the All England for the third time.
“But it won’t be easy because the Chinese players have been studying my game and will certainly bounce back stronger,” Chong Wei said after the launch of his autobiography titled “Dare to be a Champion” at the Kuala Lumpur Sports Arena.
“The title of the book is supposed to tell a message that even though I’ve tasted numerous defeats in my career, I never give up.
“It also documents my journey from the junior level to where I am today. Hopefully, it will inspire the younger players to strive and perform better.”
Among the guests of honour at the book launch were National Sports Council (NSC) director general Datuk Zolkples Embong, National Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz and former Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.
