Ferguson guna barisan campuran
Tevez dijangka terajui jentera serangan United bertemu Derby
LONDON: Kekuatan menyeluruh Manchester United akan terus diuji, hari ini apabila barisan bergelar Red Devils itu tampil menentang Derby dalam saingan separuh akhir pertama Piala Liga di gelanggang lawan.
Perlawanan itu adalah kedua daripada enam dalam tempoh 17 hari bagi United yang baru kembali ke aksi domestik pada 26 Disember selepas kunjung pra-Krismas ke Jepun bagi cabaran Piala Kelab Dunia.
Ketika digamit saingan mendebarkan menentang Chelsea, Ahad ini, pengurus pasukan, Alex Ferguson tampak akan menggunakan barisan campuran pemain tonggak dan simpanan yang menewaskan Southampton 3-0 dalam saingan Piala FA, hujung minggu lalu.
Tetapi dengan sumber yang kaya, United masih boleh mendabik dada dengan barisan membabitkan Carlos Tevez yang tidak beraksi pada dua perlawanan lalu kerana pulang ke negara asalnya, Argentina.
"Carlos kembali berlatih semalam (Isnin) dan dia akan bermain menentang Derby," kata Ferguson. "Ia hampir pasti skuad yang sama. Saya mungkin menggugurkan satu atau dua pemain tetapi secara keseluruhan ia barisan yang hampir sama sahaja."
Ia bererti Tevez akan menggantikan Dimitar Berbatov atau Wayne Rooney untuk membenarkan mereka berehat bagi perlawanan penting, Ahad ini dengan Cristiano Ronaldo akan diketepikan sekali lagi.
Danny Welbeck dan Darron Gibson masing-masing menjaringkan gol menentang Southampton, Ahad lalu dan mungkin akan turun dalam kesebelasan lagi bersama Jonny Evans dan Rodrigo Possebon.
United hanya berjaya menjulang Piala Liga dua kali tetapi sudah memenangi semua tiga perlawanan tanpa melepaskan sebarang gol sejak kembali dari Jepun. Ia jelas memberi gambaran Derby akan bergelut nanti walau pun beraksi di halaman sendiri.
Derby akan bermain tanpa pengurus pasukan berikutan tindakan Paul Jewell meletak jawatan tetapi berjaya menewaskan Forest Green Rovers 4-3 dalam saingan Piala FA, Ahad lalu. Perlawanan kedua di antara United dan Derby akan diadakan di Old Trafford pada 20 Januari ini dengan pemenang menentang Tottenham atau Burnley dalam perlawanan akhir pada 1 Mac ini di Wembley. - AP |

Once again, the Clough family is 90 minutes from Wembley after Derbystunned Premier League champions Manchester United with a 1-0 CarlingCup semi-final first leg triumph at Pride Park.
After four triumphs in the competition for the legendary Brian, now it is Nigel's turn to take the Carling Cup by storm.
Derby'snew manager has not even taken official charge yet. But he will havedone by the time the Rams head to Old Trafford for a second-leg meetingwith Manchester United in a fortnight, looking to defend the pricelessadvantage Kris Commons gave them with his 30th-minute winner.
Itmight have been more convincing too as Clough watched on from thestands, with Rob Hulse wasting a glorious chance near the end afterTomasz Kuszczak had pushed another Commons effort into his path.
Notthat a capacity crowd were complaining as they celebrated a famous winon a night when the son of their most famous manager must have felt thefootballing gods really were smiling on him.

SteveDavies must have thought he would score when, after Kuszczak had savedhis initial close-range shot, he met the rebound with venom, only forstand-in captain Nemanja Vidic to slide in and make a magnificent block.
RioFerdinand was one of the team-mates Vidic was standing in for and theEngland defender's presence was being badly missed, mainly for hisskills at organising those in front of him.
When Vidic strainedto head away from the penalty spot, Mile Sterjovski was given far toomuch room to line up a volley which was flying towards the bottomcorner when Jonny Evans stuck out a leg to turn it away.
With theopportunities came the confidence Clough needs to instil in his playerson a more consistent basis as Derby began to string passes together andUnited continued to struggle.
There was a brief interlude, duringwhich Paul Scholes screwed a couple of long-range efforts wide beforeJohn O'Shea, racing onto Nani's return pass, flicked an intelligentshot which would have had former team-mate Roy Carroll in trouble ifPaul Green had not been on hand to turn it away.
But largely it was Derby dictating the game, Derby who looked more assured. United making all the unforced errors.
So it was no surprise and certainly well deserved when Commons struck.
Uniteddid not heed the earlier warning about giving opponents too much roomand failed to close the Scotland international down as he collectedSterjovski's short pass.
With the visitors having invited theshot, Commons obliged by drilling a low effort into the right cornerthat gave Kuszczak no chance.
Little was seen of Carlos Tevez, whose Old Trafford future has been a major subject of interest over the past few days.
Butthe biggest disappointment was Nani who, since the arrival of ZoranTosic from Partizan Belgrade last week, has the most pressing need toimpress.
A speedy charge out of his area by Carroll prevented thePortugal wing man seizing on a loose ball at the start of the secondhalf. But entrusted with set-piece duties, Nani wasted the lot.
Suchwas his fitful contribution that it was a surprise the men to give waywere Paul Scholes and Danny Welbeck when Ferguson cashed in his heftyinsurance policy after 63 minutes and brought on Wayne Rooney andCristiano Ronaldo.
Not that it changed much as Davies flashed a shot narrowly wide.
Ronaldodid the same at the other end, by which time Michael Carrick had beenintroduced as well, in time to see the brilliant Portugal winger send afree-kick whizzing just past Carroll's post.
But if that was a near thing, Derby came even closer 10 minutes from time as Kuszczak pushed away Commons' low shot.
Tobe fair to Hulse, the rebound came at him lightning fast. Yet if thestriker had only been able to keep it down rather than scoop it over,the Clough family really would have had reason to rejoice.
