UPCOMING AFTERNOON DAILY DORAMA
Morisanchu's Murakami, Shuchishin's Nokubo to play newlyweds
Tue, August 5, 2008 (2:53am EDT)
Tomoko Murakami of the comedy trio Morisanchu and Naoki Nokubo
of the "baka" trio Shuchishin will be starring in a drama together.
They will play a newlywed couple in TBS's afternoon series "Panda ga
Machi ni Yatte Kuru."
This is Murakami's second time in a lead drama role. She last appeared in
Fuji TV's 2006 comedy "Busu no Hitomi ni Koi#eru," opposite SMAP's Goro
Inagaki.
In "Panda," Murakami plays a former child star who winds up as a mediocre
talento, appearing as a costumed character on a kids' show. She ties the
knot with a younger patissier (Nokubo), but their marriage is soon full of
constant troubles. Coincidentally, Murakami is a newlywed in real life as
well, as she just got married this past March.
TBS will broadcast the drama on weekdays at 1:30pm, starting on November 3.

UPCOMING AUTUMN DORAMA
New live-action "Salaryman Kintaro" announced
Thu, August 7, 2008 (1:33am EDT)
Hiroshi Motomiya popular manga series "Salaryman Kintaro" is once
again being adapted as a television drama. It previously ran for four
seasons on TBS between 1999 and 2004 with Katsunori Takahashi as the star,
and it even had a movie directed by Takashi Miike after the first season.
The new version, however, is jumping to TV Asahi and has a brand new actor,
Masaru Nagai.
It is uncommon for a television network to produce a drama series based on
the same source as another drama from a different network. One of the few
examples is Fuji TV's 2006 series "Saiyuki," which was originally
dramatized by NTV from 1978 to 1980.
As for the role of Kintaro, Takahashi offered his encouragement to the
younger Nagai. The two have plenty of experience working together, as they
both appeared in the "Tokumei Kakarichou Tadano Hitoshi" drama series,
which has had three seasons and is having a movie version released in
December.
The new "Salaryman Kintaro" will air in TV Asahi's Friday 11:15pm time
slot, starting in October.

UPCOMING DORAMA
Iseya stars in MacArthur era drama
Fri, August 8, 2008 (1:06am EDT)
NHK is producing a television drama based on the life of Jiro Shirasu, sometimes called "the man who reproached MacArthur." Shirasu was involved in the negotiations with General Douglas MacArthur, who served as the GHQ during the occupation of Japan, and he is said to be the only Japanese person who defied him.
Shirasu will be played by Yusuke Iseya, who is making his first appearance in a television drama. His co-star is Miki Nakatani, who will play Shirasu's wife, essayist Masako Shirasu. While the central theme of the drama is Jiro's interactions with the GHQ, the story will cover his life from adolescence to old age.
NHK will air the drama in multiple parts during the start of the New Year period of 2009.
