JUST IN CASE: Syarikat Air Johor Holdings Sdn Bhd says the water-saving measures will be cancelled if water levels rise sufficientlyJOHOR BARU: TO many people in Johor, it looks like the dry spell may be over. But, Syarikat Air Johor Holdings Sdn Bhd (SAJ) is not taking any chances.
SAJ corporate communications head Jamaluddin Jamal said water scheduling would be continued.
"Parts of Mersing will still continue with the ongoing water rationing exercise as a precautionary measure.
"Sedili, Felda Lok Heng and Felda Waha in Kota Tinggi district will start water scheduling today to stabilise water intake at the plants," he told Streets yesterday.
It is learnt that the situation at the eight main dams in Johor has seen a slight improvement, though several areas are still recording low water levels.
The water level at the Congok dam in Mersing has dropped below the critical level.
In Kota Tinggi, there has not been much improvement in the water level of the river.
Jamaluddin said the water scheduling in Kota Tinggi was only planned for a month and would be called off if the water levels rise.
He assured residents in the affected areas that SAJ would inform them in advance so that they could prepare themselves.
"Overall, the situation is still manageable and there is no cause for alarm," he said, adding that the state capital and urban areas did not face a water shortage problem.
Households in areas affected by water scheduling will receive their normal water supply for two days and experience a water cut on the third day.
Water rationing refers to households being supplied with a limited amount of water.
Jamaluddin said SAJ was working with the state government and agencies such as the National Water Services Commission and National Security Council to address the water situation in Johor.
Jamaluddin said SAJ would work with related agencies to monitor water levels at dams in Lebam, Congok, Juaseh, Bekok, Labong, Gunung Pulai, Pontian Kechil and Layang.
