The acting team for the upcoming drama "Medical Top Team" is shaping up nicely, with several new actors signed on and more reviewing possible roles. It's a hospital drama about top doctors in their respective fields coming together to form a team. The doctors work together to solve cases but also compete for choice hospital positions. They fight and fall in love.
The latest actor considering joining the hospital staff is the band SHINee's Minho. He has been asked to play the role of Kim Sung Woo, a third year resident in the thoracic surgery department. There are yet unresolved questions about whether the role's requirements will fit into the schedule set by SHINee's album promotions.
The drama team has also signed on actor Ju Ji Hoon, who played the prince in "rincess Hours. He will play Hang Seung Jae, a very smart physician who wants to become a director at the hospital. It will be his first medical drama. Last year he appeared in the film "I Am A King."
Jeong Ryeo Won, who viewers may remember as the girl who stole Hyun Bin from Kim Sun Ah in "My Lovely Kim Sam Soon," will play Seo Joo Yeong, a charming but perfectionist workaholic cardiothoracic doctor.
Oh Yeon So, who played Bang Mal Sook in "You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly" and Na Jong Goo in "Oh Ja Ryong," will play a young thoracic surgeon with only two years of experience. It will be the first time the actress plays a doctor.
"I am happy to work with such a great cast," said Oh Yeon So. "Although I am nervous about it being my first doctor role."
The last person considering a role is Lee Min Jung, who starred in "Big" and "All About My Romance." If she does take a role in the medical drama it will be a first for her too, as it will be her first role after she marries Lee Byung Hun in August.
Kwon Sang Woo of "Queen of Ambition" and "Dae Mul" has already signed on to play the leading male role, that of a genius surgeon.
Kim Do Hoon, who directed "The Moon That Embraces The Sun" is the director. Yoon Kyung Ah, who wrote the drama "Brain," is the writer. The drama begins shooting in August and is set to air in October, following "The Queen's Classroom" and "Two Weeks."

So I think this rounds out Team Genius, aka the doctors on Medical Top Team, the new fall MBC drama about the Super Elite Team of Doctors Never Before Seen on Television, Nope. There’s a confirmation in for Joo Ji-hoon, who’s been cast to round out the main triangle/rivalry with Kwon Sang-woo and Jung Ryeo-won; and a new addition in idol-actor Min-ho (To The Beautiful You) who will play the team’s maknae.
Wait, I thought Oh Yeon-seo was the team’s maknae. You’re just going to call every new member of the cast the new maknae until you’re done, aren’t you? Maybe they didn’t anticipate casting so young for Min-ho’s role. I will admit I’m going to have a hard time believing he’s the best in his field, per Team Genius’s requirements. He’s adorable as a maknae anything, but let’s just say To The Beautiful You isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement of acting skills for anybody.
The new medical drama from the writer of Brain and the PD of The Moon That Embraces the Sun stars Kwon Sang-woo as a bad-boy surgeon and team leader, and Jung Ryeo-won as an ambitious and charismatic surgeon with a warm human touch. Joo Ji-hoon will play the director of internal medicine, a character described as a “double-edged sword,” with a gentle demeanor but a cold, calculating side underneath it all. Wait, so Kwon Sang-woo plays the bad boy with a heart of gold and Joo Ji-hoon plays the golden boy with a heart of darkness? Does one of them not feel pain while the other feels only pain?
Min-ho will play a third-year resident in thoracic surgery, and he’s the only character who’s just plain nice, no caveats and hidden agendas. Well, if you don’t count unrequited puppy love as an agenda. He’ll have a one-sided crush on Oh Yeon-seo’s character, and be her guardian angel. He’s described as well-mannered and quick on the uptake, which should come in handy as the low-on-the-totem-pole worker bee on the team.
Medical Top Team follows Two Weeks and premieres in October.
