[Recap] City Hunter Episode 11a
by: jbarky @ soompi on Jun 30, 2011
Cliffhangers galore! Gahhh the writers of the show really know how to make a person's stomach lurch. Uggh. Oh well, this episode was full of revelations as well, and like I always say it was "jam-packed." So without further ado, let's get on with the recap!
First off we are back to the cliffhanger at the end of City Hunter Episode 10! Yoon Sung has his knife against Nana; and now, he knows that she knows that he's the City Hunter. (Phew, and she knows that he knows that she knows he's the City Hunter ;)
The two don’t say much and escape together inside the back of an ambulance.
The two get off near train tracks. They begin to walk away with Yoon Sung basically dragging Nana along.
Yoon Sung is dragging Nana. Yoon Sung pulls Nana’s arm and asks her, “When did you begin to know?” (That I’m the City Hunter)
Nana, "When I almost fell at the broadcasting building. When I saw your eyes."
He says, “I’m warning you, don’t get involved in my work.”
Nana, "How could I! The person I shot saved my life twice!"
Yoon Sung, "Killing somebody like you is nothing for me... If you don't want to die erase everything that you know about me. Go back to the moment when you knew nothing about me."
YJ receives the blood test results and they do not match. He questions the lab person, and she is annoyed.
Yoon Sung returns home, and JP is warning him. If your identity is figured out by Nana, she will have to die.
Nana and Yoon Sung are both inside different bathrooms. Nana wonders about Yoon Sung getting shot, "How much it must have hurt..."
Yoon Sung tells himself, “Lee Yoon Sung, erase Kim Nana. For Nana..."
Nana and her partner join Yoon Sung and Ki Joon’s table to eat lunch. Yoon Sung's supervisor lightly scolds Yoon Sung about not having been available at a presentation. Nana tries to cover up for him, Yoon Sung walks out saying that he will take full responsibility. Yoon Sung asks Nana to come to the bench.
He tries to push her away saying, "Was my warning a joke to you?" but she is adamant. Yoon Sung, “Don’t make me regret having saved you.”
Yoon Sung gives his resignation to his supervisor. The supervisor tries to cling on to him.
Back at YJ’s office, the underling confesses that he was blocked by Nana. The underling found out about Yoon Sung’s father, that he was a part of Special Forces and had disappeared in 1983.
She admitted that Yoon Sung’s father (PMY) was the president’s bodyguard, she also talked about the “Rangoon Bombing” incident. She saw JP and was a bit frightened and surprised.
JP is waiting inside of Yoon Sung’s mother’s hospital room.
JP lies to Yoon Sung’s mother stating that her son died in a plane crash. He throws a newspaper on her bed showing an accident with somebody else. JP asks her to forget everything, heal, and live a new life. JP admits that he is currently at war with the people that have hurt PMY and her son. JP says, “Kyung Hee… my wish is that you live well…”
Ex-officer asks JP if he should go to these extremes but JP is adamant. |

Yoon Sung is at home eating with the bald guy, but he doesn't have the stomach to eat. Yoon Sung decides to go to the hospital.
At the hospital, Yoon Sung’s mother wants to drink a can of Korean sprite. The ex-officer says that he will go instead.
When the ex-officer goes back to the room, she has disappeared!
Yoon Sung runs to JP asking what happened to his mother. JP threatens Yoon Sung saying that for her to be safe, Yoon Sung needs to listen to JP. JP tells Yoon Sung to kill Target Number Three himself. JP tells Yoon Sung that he has two things to lose. After Yoon Sung leaves, JP commands the ex-officer to find Yoon Sung’s mother, and also to bug Yoon Sung’s room.
The last two members of the Group of Five besides the President are talking on the phone. (Target Number Three and the CEO who will probably be Target Number Four) Target Number Three tells his son, you are also another part of me. YJ denies this, “No father I am not your alter ego!"
Back at Yoon Sung's apartment, the ex-officer is setting up the bugs in the apartment while the bald guy is clueless and listening to music as he cleans dishes.
The President, the CEO, and Target Number Three are meeting together. The President wants to reveal the truth about their “wipeout plan” in 1983. However, the CEO threatens the President saying that he has dirt on him.
Yoon Sung is packing his things to leave, but the supervisor doesn’t want to let him go. Ki Joon gives the present to Nana’s partner.
Nana rushes off to Yoon Sung because he is leaving. Nana, “I will forget you, I will go back to the state where I didn’t meet you, I will disappear from your life completely. I came to say this.”
Nana is at her office and she receives the affidavit from the bald guy, admitting the fact that he fudged his witness statement regarding Nana’s parents and their accident. Nana calls her aunt and then goes to YJ's office. She notices that on his computer, a message that "Daddy Long Legs' wrote her is on a post-it attached to the monitor. She realizes that YJ = Daddy Long Legs.
Nana asks YJ, when they are the café together. She gives YJ the news and also makes YJ admit that he is "Daddy Long Legs." She thanks him as well.
YJ tells her that he needs to admit something, (DAMNIT, KYAAAA! >_< thought he would tell her that his father is Target Number Three) but just tells her that he'll take care of her parents' accident case.
Yoon Sung asks the bald guy to attach a GPS on JP’s cane. The bald guy is extremely hesitant. Yoon Sung tells the bald guy a password if he is ever in danger again.
Nana talks to her parents through the picture as she leaves her apartment. She is sad that she couldn't keep her promise of protecting the apartment.
Nana goes to Sehee asking to stay at the animal hospital for a bit, Sehee then offers to let her into her home. Nana replies that she just needs the sofa. Then, Nana asks Sehee if she knew that YJ was “Daddy Long Legs,” and Sehee replies that she did not.
JP already knows that the bald guy was trying to put a GPS locater on JP's cane, and the bald guy fails. JP asks the ex-officer if he sent the letter to YJ.
YJ goes to Target Number Three (his father) after receiving the message from JP that reads, "The next target is Kim Jong Shik (Target Number Three).
YJ knew about Target Number Three’s shady dealings with the bald guy after Nana's car accident.
YJ's father (Target Number Three) "Is that the reason why you hated me so much? The reason you suddenly pushed me away?"
YJ "As much as I had respected you."
YJ explains that Nana has gathered evidence against his father; however, Target Number Three says that he is still fine in front of the law because too much time has passed. YJ asks if time cleans sins. He asks his father to confess his crimes, but Target Number Three rejects this.
YJ "Very Well. But, if you have any other dirt could you be so fine in front of the law? I will show you the strength of the law that I strive to protect."
As YJ leaves, Target Number Three commands that Nana and the bald guy be kidnapped. |

[Recap] City Hunter Episode 11c
by: jbarky @ soompi on Jun 30, 2011
The two are kidnapped and trapped inside a basement.
Yoon Sung knows where the bald guy is because of the GPS locator the bald guy had failed to put on JP!
He first enters Target Number Three's office and finds a lock with a password, he puts on some type of cool liquid in order to highlight fingerprints and tries out different combinations of the four numbers.
Nana and the bald guy escape after tricking them into believing that Nana has to use the restroom. Once outside they run into Yoon Sung! He tells them to stay hidden outside while he goes back inside to find where Target Number Three is hiding money.
Yoon Sung finally breaks the code into the safe and finds a crapload of 50,000 won bills. He calculates the amount by guesstimating!
As he is about to leave, he is shot with a tranquilizer gun by one of Target Number Three's henchmen.
Yoon Sung wakes up in a basement somewhere and is being teased by the main henchman. Yoon Sung irritates the dude untill, he challenges a woozy Yoon Sung to a fist-fight! Yoon Sung is still recovering from the tranquilizer hit and eventually loses. The other henchmen are about to kill Yoon Sung.
Nana rushes in to save the day and she is busting out all of her moves, judo and wrestling what have you.
Right when it seems like Yoon Sung and Nana have the upperhand, the main henchman brings out a gun and aims at Yoon Sung. Nana steps in to get hit by the bullet!
Yoon Sung, "Kim Nana... Kim Nana...Why?"
Nana, "You saved me... Twice... Did you hurt this much as well?"
Yoon Sung, "Don't talk... Don't say anything..."
Nana, "Did you hate me? I would like it if you told me you didn't... I wanted to tell you, thank you..."
Yoon Sung, "Why did you take the bullet? Why did you take the bullet?"
Nana, "I'm glad it wasn't you..."
Nana heaves a sigh and her arm drops...
Gahhhhh! This episode ends in another cliffhanger!
Stay tuned for the next episode recap with final comments!

[Recap] City Hunter Episode 12a
by: jbarky @ soompi on July 1, 2011
Last episode ended in a cliffhanger, and this one as well.. and probably the next one... and then the next one... I don't understand it though, I don't seem to get tired of this show! Phew! I wish they would end one episode with a breather so we could all relax, I mean most of us are anticipating each episode anyways Sheesh! Anyways, let's jump back into the recap, because we need to know what happened to NANA!!! (DON'T DIE!!!)
Yoon Sung and the bald guy quickly take Nana to Sehee's vet!
Sehee, "Another gun shot wound?" She suggests that they take her to a real hospital, but Nana disagrees.
The worst is over and Nana and Yoon Sung have a moment together while she recovers. Aww, looks like Yoon Sung won't be able to push her away after all .
While Nana sleeps, Yoon Sung talks to the bald guy but more to himself... Admiring her qualities!
He decides to take her home, I mean why not, she already knows he's City Hunter, no need for them to push each other apart ANYMORE!
Now while Yoon Sung and the bald guy are talking about Target Number Three, the light isn't working and he notices that there is a bug! Ruh Oh! JP overheard everything!
Yoon Sung goes to confront his father, but he notices how the ex-officer and JP are arguing... about him! JP is planning on taking out Nana! (Here we see that the ex-officer has a conscience!)
OMG... Yoon Sung finally finds out that JP had actually kidnapped Yoon Sung! JP calls it destiny and Yoon Sung is infuriated, "I DIDN'T WANT TO LIVE THIS WAY!!!"
Yoon Sung sits alone at his apartment thinking about his mother, everything he knew just turned upside down!
Nana sees him and she remarks that she doesn't want him to quit his job, she promises to forget him, she also says that her debt to him is now paid...
Yoon Sung grabs her arm and says, "Don't leave.... Please.... Don't Leave...." She walks away.
Yoon Sung being the man that we know and love, grabs her from behind and hugs her. (KYA!!!)
Meanwhilst, JP is back at the office promising PMY that he will avenge him, even if that means killing Yoon Sung. (Uhh what? Yeah.. like your friend will want you to kill his own son, I know JP is consumed by vengeance but this... was a lil... bit of a stretch, he's becoming too one-dimensional...)
Yoon Sung gives Nana first-aid, she's surprised that he knows how to do everything. "What kind of life did you live, did you have any other friends besides the bald guy?"
Yoon Sung "Yeah I had a friend who is swayed easily, is strong, eats a lot, and loves skinship..." (Teasing Nana)
Nana exclaims that everything is right but she doesn't particularly enjoy skinship!
Yoon Sung asks her to stay. Nana asks if she can help, but he denies her.
While Yoon Sung is analyzing the dirt behind Target Number Three, Nana comes in with cofee. He tells her not to join in, but she is clever! She tells him that she'll look for Yoon Sung's mother. Haha Yoon Sung caves in! It's funny to see the two working together, lol.
The communications crew + Nana's partner goes to Yoon Sung to convince him to come back. (Jeez they are persistent!) Nana's partner is also under the impression that Yoon Sung likes her. Haha when the crew go to Yoon Sung's apartment, the bald guy is smitten with Nana's partner. (Honestly I think she's cute too!)
She asks to be shown the apartment! (Ack what if they find Nana?)
Yoon Sung deftly leads Nana's partner away, Nana exclaims, "That curious devil!"
JP plans to take the money from Target Number Three and give it to YJ. JP thinks it'll be intriguing to see what YJ will do. It will be "fun" for him to watch father and son duke it out. If he hides this, the nation will now think that prosecutors are corrupt as well.
Back at Yoon Sung's apartment they are talking strategy, Yoon Sung will keep facing his father. Nana asks what kind of person JP is... but gets no real answer. |

[Recap] City Hunter Episode 12b
by: jbarky @ soompi on July 1, 2011
Target Number Three puts up a farce for the students who are demonstrating, he acts like he is very concerned and gives them a motivational speech. However, once he is walking with his secretary, he says, "There will always be rich and powerful sons/daughters willing to come to this college, of course these people lead society anyways." (Uggh!)
Yoon Sung put a GPS locator inside of the implant that was being put into Target Number Three.
Haha I dont' know why I'm showing you guys this scene, but I just thought it was hilarious. Having a bug in your mouth. Imagine, you can hear everything that is being said, whenever he burps, and kisses. It's kind of gross if you think about it.
Yoon Sung’s mother is at a Buddhist temple. She is going to go donate money for the college kids. (She saw the news about the demonstration on her way to the temple she is at.)
Yoon Sung is asked to pick up Nana's clothes at Sehee's vet. When he goes there he notices that Target Number Three's henchman is there! So what does Yoon Sung do?....
Yoon Sung goes on a shopping spree! He just picks out anything he likes... lol. When he goes back home Nana is surprised at all of the clothes!
Nana then makes Yoon Sung a bit jealous, talking about YJ saying that we should go ask for him help. Then Yoon Sung exclaims,
"Don't you know that he's looking for me!!?!!" "You’re not Kim Nana you are Kom Nana, huh?" (Kom means bear, Koreans commonly use the word Gom to describe someone that is slow)
The bald guy comes with shampoo that looks like soap, but Nana hasn't washed her hair! The bald guy offers his assistance and Yoon Sung is furious!
Yoon Sung says, “Ajushee wash your own hair!”
Haha, the two bicker while Nana smiles.
Yoon Sung ends up washing her hair, he tells himself, "Wow, I can't believe I'm actually doing this." Nana is thoroughly enjoying the experience bossing him around a bit.
Then as Yoon Sung looks at her lovingly she asks, "What are you doing?" Yoon Sung, "What? I'm washing your hair."
The two begin to fight with shampoo bubbles with Yoon Sung exclaiming "Gom Nana!"
Yoon Sung is back in his office listening into Target Number Three. Nana is curious and wants to hear as well... It looks like they are about to kiss when.....!
Damnit, we see Yoon Sung's mother giving a donation! (Of course Target Number Three will just keep this money for himself... So weird he wasn't *this* bad or greedy before! Poor YJ )
Yoon Sung rushes to the scene but he barely misses her... At Yoon Sung's apartment, the bald guy comments that Yoon Sung probably wants to see his mother dearly, Nana asks specifics but he tells her to talk to Yoon Sung personally...
Target Number Three is walking around buying things for his wife, and Yoon Sung is taking pictures. (Oh my, is he using the money that Yoon Sung's mother gave as a donation?)
YJ goes through Target Number Three's numbers and he realizes there is a big hole of 2 billion dollars! (Approximate) He rushes to his father's home and Target Number Three was putting away the money!
Nana wants to hear but Yoon Sung knowing that it is sensitive makes her leave. (I can't tell if he's doing this for YJ or he just doesn't want Nana to hear this and be crushed.... or both?)
Father and son are arguing. YJ asks Target Number Three to give back the money to the school or confess. His father refuses, "It's too late for me to turn around..."
YJ, "What if I go through with prosecuting you with the law?"
Target Number Three, "You're a prosecutor you need to do your job..."
Yoon Sung is intrigued, "YJ... your dilemma has begun, I'll be watching you... Tomorrow is D-Day"
Yoon Sung, Nana, and the bald guy take the money-truck but JP is chasing them!
Yoon Sung tells the bald guy to go through with the "plan." JP's car moves ahead of Yoon Sung's truck and just like a scene we've seen before, he pust himself in front of the fast-approaching vehicle. (Now the roles are switched! Haha, I liked this scene.)
Of course Yoon Sung doesn't kill his father, and when he goes out, he doesn't even fight JP.
When JP and the ex-officer open up the truck. JP looks angry, but then he laughs, "Yoon Sung... how dare you trick me!?" (Was he proud? Amused? or just crazy-angry?)
The robin-hood trio celebrate together inside of the truck briefly!

[Recap] City Hunter Episode 12c
by: jbarky @ soompi on July 1, 2011
In robin hood fashion, the money is given to college students and their parents! With personalized message from the City Hunter!
Haha, remember the girl that was mean to the worker? She didn't get her share. (Justice is served, but how did Yoon Sung know her name?!)
The bald guy exclaims that they should have a party! So the bald guy tells Nana and Yoon Sung to go shopping for whatever they want to eat!
As they are leaving, Nana drops a tomato... the automatic doors close.. and suddenly the lights go dark! Oh noes, they are seperated!
A lone motorcycle rider approaches menancingly towards Nana... it's JP! And... CLIFFHANGER GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Final Comments
Jeebus, the bald guy exclaims that his heart almost exploded when he saw Nana's partner. My heart is going to explode if they keep giving us these cliffhangers. I mean, I'm pretty sure Nana is going to survive this incident as well, but.. there's that lingering "unknown factor." Uggh!
Nana and Yoon Sung are finally living together again, and their love is blossoming. Sigh, it's funny you know, Yoon Sung goes through all that work to push her away, but he just can't resist her. That's magical love for you there, MAAAGGGGIIIICAAALLLL~
Anyways, I really liked how YJ and his father is parallel to Yoon Sung and JP. I am also curious as to how YJ will act in the following episodes, it must be so much stress for him >_< .... It looks like Target Number Three will be going down soon, and once he does we will probably see a glimpse of what YJ and Yoon Sung's relationship will turn out to be!
Analysis
It's that time of the week again! First thing is first, I really liked the scene with Yoon Sung last episode where he was calculating the money in his head (guesstimate), and we got to see what it looks like! This my friends, reminded me of another film that did something similar: The Da Vinci Code!!!
In this scene you see the protaganist of The Da Vinci Code putting all the pieces together. Sorry, but the geek in me just loves it when tv shows or movies do something like this! Two thumbs up for City Hunter!
Now, because this is probably the end for "the college blues" and Target Number Three's involvement in the "tuition cut, student demonstrations," I wanted to edify some of you about the real events in Korea that they are portraying!
1) Kyunghee University: Female Student and Cleaning Lady Incident
For those of you who don't understand Korean, basically a student at Kyunghee University rudely told a lady to throw away a box of milk she was done with. The two got into a heated argument with the student screaming profanities at the poor lady.
2) Student Demonstrations for Tuition Cuts
This is an actual event going on currently and is a touchy subject. I'll beef up this portion with more information about the controversy behind "college tuition" in South Korea.
I always like it when shows incorporate current affairs in society, it makes it a lot more relevant and important. I don't remember where I read it, but when a piece of literature or art can become something that highlights certain aspects that show what people were thinking at the time it was made, it truly becomes significant.
Fighting City Hunter, have a great weekend everyone!

Lee Min Ho Pours Heart and Soul into “City Hunter”
by: hotshotlover30 on Jul 3, 2011

In the photos, lead actors Lee Min Ho and Park Min Young are looking into a small camcorder meticulously monitoring their every expressions, lines, and moves. It’s been reported several times that Lee Min Ho and Park Min Young were really close, often practicing their lines together and joking with each other when the cameras were off. Their perfect on-screen chemistry probably stems from their close off-screen relationship with each other.
A representative of the drama expressed, “Those two work extremely hard, even when the cameras are off. The cast and crew are putting in every ounce of energy and effort to make this drama the best it can be. And that’s one reason why viewers are so attracted to them and the ‘City Hunter.’”
Meanwhile, “City Hunter” is performing strong and captivating viewers with every new episode.
The action-packed drama secured its No. 1 spot with viewership ratings of 18.4% and 18.8% (data from AGB Nielsen) on Wednesday and Thursday. Sung Yuri’s “Romance Town” and CNBlue’s Jung Yong Hwa’s “Heartstrings” finished a distant second and third respectively.

Lee Min Ho Said Okay to “City Hunter” without Reviewing the Synopsis!
by: hotshotlover30 @ soompi on Jul 6, 2011
Director Jin Hyuk shared some behind-the-scenes stories about how he casted Lee Min Ho, Park Min Young, and others for his action blockbuster drama “City Hunter.” Jin Hyuk started, “I had just finished filming ‘Prosecutor Princess’ in 2010, and Lee Min Ho was done with ‘Personal Taste.’ I told him, ‘let’s work on our next project together,’ and he agreed. This was before I even had a synopsis or script for ‘City Hunter.’” He added, “Park Min Young also started training for judo and martial arts after just a verbal agreement. I was very thankful.”
Likewise, Kim Sang Joong, who plays Lee Yoon Sung’s surrogate father Lee Jin Pyo, joined the project without second thought when director Jin Hyuk personally visited him on set where he was filming. Jin Hyuk praised, “He created so many memorable and charismatic scenes, like the one where he saluted underwater to his best friend during the night of the wipe-out plan.”
Lee Kwang Soo, who plays Yoon Sung’s nerdy computer genius Go Ki Joon, was casted by chance when director Jin Hyuk met up with “Dong Yi’s” Bae Soo Bin and Han Hyo Joo. The two co-actors introduced the director to Kwang Soo. Jin Hyuk revealed, “I was looking for a Go Ki Joon, when I first met Kwang Soo. I saw him and said, ‘That’s the guy.’”
Director Jin Hyuk stated, “I wanted to thrill many people with ‘City Hunter’ and show them the lives of people who grew up in an unconventional family background. Thank you for showing so much love towards ‘City Hunter,’ and we’ll do our best to finish the second half of the series strong.”
Meanwhile, “City Hunter” has secured its No. 1 spot with viewership ratings of 18.4% and 18.8% (AGB Nielsen) last week. Many are predicting that the action-packed drama will break the 20% mark this week. Even before its premiere, “City Hunter” managed to sell broadcasting rights to the United States, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, and others based on a stellar cast lineup, famous director, well-known screenwriter, and a strong storyline based on a famous Japanese manga. The drama exceeded expectations and have been well-received both domestically and internationally. SSD has recently announced that it has sold the drama’s broadcasting rights to two more countries, Cambodia and Myanmar.
“City Hunter’s” director Jin Hyuk is known for producing dramas like “Brilliant Legacy” (2009), starring Lee Seung Gi and Han Hyo Joo, and “Prosecutor Princess” (2010), starring Park Si Hoo and Kim So Yeon. Scriptwriter Hwang Eun Kyung has written dramas like “Daemul” (2010), starring Kwon Sang Woo and Go Hyun Jung, and “New Heart” (2008), starring Ji Sung and Kim Min Jung.
“City Hunter” will air its thirteenth episode tonight on SBS at 9:55PM KST.

“City Hunter’s” Lee Min Ho Wears Face Covering Bandana in Sweltering Heat
by: hotshotlover30 @ soompi on Jul 5, 2011
For the upcoming episode of “City Hunter,” Lee Min Ho hid his gorgeous face behind a black bandana as he filmed in the sweltering heat. During the shoot, he wore a turtleneck bandana that covered almost his entire face, minus the eyes.
Unfortunately, the day was extremely hot (30 °C, 86 °F) and humid, but the actor showed no signs of discomfort and managed to put his all into his character. While it’s difficult to portray expressions with so much of one’s face covered up, Lee Min Ho managed to display Lee Yoon Sung’s emotions through his eyes.
Currently, Lee Yoon Sung is still on his way to avenging his father’s unjust death. He’s already taken out two of the “group of five” responsible for the wipe-out plan, that unjustly murdered South Korean special forces soldiers who were sent on a mission in North Korea to avenge the 1983 Rangoon Bombings. Yoon Sung has moved on to his third target, prosecutor Yong Joo’s (Lee Joon Hyuk) father Jong Shik (Choi Il Hwa). The bandana is probably the disguise he uses as he takes action against Jong Shik.
Producers of the show stated, “We’re already past the halfway mark, and our cast and crew are extremely tired. However, the increasing popularity and viewership ratings are boosting everyone’s energy onset. Please root for our cast and crew as they continue to work hard.”
Meanwhile, the plot thickens as Yoon Sung begins to fight both his father and the group of five to find what he believes to be the right solution to justice and to protect those he loves. “City Hunter” will air its thirteenth episode tomorrow, July 6th, on SBS at 9:55PM KST.
