Video Research Ltd. has published its latest TV Talento Image ranking, which measures popularity, recognition, and image.
This time, baseball player Ichiro ranked 1st among male celebrities. He was also #1 in the last two rankings. Hidehiko Ishizuka repeated his appearance at #2, while George Tokoro advanced one spot to #3.
In the female rankings, 18-year-old figure skater Mao Asada rose three places to take #1. She was followed by Becky and Sayuri Yoshinaga, who previously ranked #3 and #6, respectively.
Arashi's latest live DVD, "ARASHI AROUND ASIA 2008 in Tokyo," received the top spot on the DVD charts this week by selling 230,000 copies. This surpasses EXILE's "EXILE PERFECT LIVE 2008," which sold 214,000 copies in its first week of sales. Among all movies, owarai, and music DVDs, "ARASHI AROUND ASIA 2008 in Tokyo" now holds this year's current record for first week sales.
In addition, the DVD now ranks 3rd in history for first week sales among music DVDs, behind KAT-TUN's "Real Face Film" (374,000) and SMAP's "Live MIJ" (281,000).
SMAP member Takuya Kimura has picked up his next starring role in a television drama. He will play the lead in TBS's comedy/mystery series "MR.BRAIN," scheduled to start in mid-spring.
Kimura plays the part of Ryusuke Tsukumo, a neuroscience researcher affiliated with a National Police Agency laboratory. Although his skills help solve difficult cases, he has one flaw: he is generally "clueless to the situation" (better known by the slang term "KY," or "kuuki o yomenai"), leading to various comical interactions. In general, each episode will be a different case.
Kimura's assistant will be played by Haruka Ayase, while Hiro Mizushima will take on the role of a young cop. Other characters include the head of the lab (Mao Daichi), another detective (Teruyuki Kagawa), and a couple of researchers (Yuji Tanaka of Bakusho Mondai and Tortoise Matsumoto of Ulfuls).
TBS plans to broadcast the drama in its Saturday 7:56pm time slot, which will be occupied by "God Hand Teru" starting April 11. "MR.BRAIN" will begin on May 23.
Sakamoto starts production on Zatoichi The Last Jason Gray in Tokyo

Japanese director Junji Sakamoto has started shooting Zatoichi The Last, starring SMAP member Shingo Katori in the lead role of the famed blind swordsman, for Japan's Sedic International and Toho Studios.
Toho has announced a 2010 release for the film which has secured investment from Celluloid Dreams. The French sales agent also handled word sales for Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi in 2003.
The story follows blind masseur and master swordsman Zatoichi after he has sheathed his sword for good, attempting to settle into a quiet life with his wife. During the journey to her hometown he's provoked back into battle.
Katori is best known as the youngest member of singing and TV entertainment troupe SMAP. His previous feature film roles include hits Monkey Magic (2007) and Suite Dreams (2006).
Sakamoto's recent films have included Toei crime film Chameleon and controversial Thai-set drama Children Of The Dark. Zatoichi marks his first foray into period action.
Based on a character created by novelist Kan Shimozawa and embodied by late legendary actor Shintaro Katsu, Zatoichi spawned 26 feature films and 100 television episodes between 1962 and 1989.
The franchise has seen at least two recent reinventions – Kitano's 2003 Zatoichi and last year's female incarnation Ichi, directed by Sori Fumihiko.
Sedic International CEO and Zatoichi The Last producer Toshiaki Nakazawa, who also produced Oscar winner Departures, cited the character's physique and sometimes ribald behaviour as reasons for casting Katori, who has been training his sword skills since last June.
Nakazawa also stated that this would be the final incarnation of the character across any media.
