Sniper 69 Komando pamer kehebatan

揢ntuk bergelar seorang anggota sniper, disiplin yang tinggi amat penting.

揑ni kerana operasi yang dijalankan melibatkan nyawa tebusan. Kita perlu mengutamakan nyawa tebusan dan orang awam,拻 katanya.

揝eseorang sniper perlu tahu mengenai senjata yang diguna. Buka hanya tahu menembak.

600 soldiers no match for 40 fighting to end brutality

By : Desmond Davidson

Towards the end of World War Two, Balang Sigar emptied his gun into a Japanese officer who hid in undergrowth in front of him.

BA扠ELALAN: His British army vest is faded and frayed, but Balang Sigar wears it with pride, the three medals he received for his service during World War Two on his chest.

He is old now, estimates put him at well into his 80s, and many of the details of his life have faded.

But he will never forget the day when as a teenage resistance fighter he killed the officer leading 600 Japanese soldiers.

They were raiding the Orang Ulu longhouses in the deep jungles of Lawas for rice, livestock and any other food they could lay their hands on to feed their comrades in Limbang and Brunei.

Sigar was a member of "Ma-yo" (Major) Tom Harrison抯 resistance group, and he is the only one out of the group of 10 alive.

He is not sure how old he is, typical of people of his age living in the interiors of Sarawak where births and deaths are not recorded.

The Special Air Service-trained Harrison was parachuted into Bario to organise the resistance and harass the Japanese in Limbang and Lawas towards the end of the war.

"There were 40 of us and 600 of them," Sigar said, relating his war-time experience to visitors curious about his medals at last week抯 Apple Fiesta here.

They were heading for Ba扠elalan in the direction of Long Semado and Long Beluyuk, about a half-day walk away.

"So we laid an ambush. During the fight, the Japanese officer found cover in the undergrowth.

"But unfortunately for him, it was right in front of me. I was face-to-face with him. He didn抰 fire, because as I later found out he had run out of ammunition. But that didn抰 stop me from emptying my Sten gun into him," Sigar said.

"We suffered no causalities. A few of them were killed. But what surprised us was that the Japanese, for all their brutality, had no stomach for a fight, and surrendered after seeing their officer killed."

His "reward" for killing the officer was his samurai sword, now hidden from antique collectors in his Lawas home. He抯 been offered a lot of money for it, but it is a trophy he wants to hand down to his son.

"We were not paid to fight. The only training we had was how to handle the gun we were issued.

"But we didn抰 mind. My friends and I just wanted to stop the Japanese brutality. They were terrorising our people.

"If I was asked to do it all over again, I would," he said.

He was awarded the Pacific Star for his role in the resistance group at the end of the war in 1945.

Britain抯 King George and Queen Elizabeth II later each awarded him a medal for his war-time exploits. But he can抰 recall when he received the medals.

UST aims to export spy planes by early 2008

April 19 2007

UNMANNED Systems Technology Sdn Bhd (UST) targets to commercially market Malaysia's very own unmanned aircraft vehicle (UAV), or spy planes, internationally by early next year.

Company spokesperson Colonel (Rtd) Rosdi Mahmud said although the planes are still in the research and development (R&D) stage, there have been enquiries from potential overseas customers, namely from the Middle East.

He said although the UAV project was carried out to support the country's Armed Forces, there are plans to market the product internationally to the commercial sector as well.

"Our business plan is as such that we will first concentrate on our launch customers, which will be the army and navy. We expect to secure government contracts for the UAV within four months.

"However, the UAV is not exclusively for them," he told a press conference after signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Defence Ministry on the development of the UAV in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

UST is a joint venture company between Composite Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTRM), System Consultancy Services Sdn Bhd (SCS) and Ikramatic Systems Sdn Bhd.

CTRM has a 51 per cent stake in the company, followed by SCS and Ikramatic with 35 and 14 per cent respectively.

Under the MOU, CTRM and SCS will each receive RM2 million with Ikramatic getting RM1 million to finance R&D activities of the UAV over the next four months.

Rosdi said the company aims to increase its current paid-up capital from RM100,000 to RM10 million within the next three months.

The UAV project took off in December 2005 as part of the initiative to further develop the country's electronic surveillance system.

UST has already developed five prototypes of the spy planes, which are not only for tactical use by the Armed Forces, but also for surveillance over Malaysian waters.

10 Briged Para pamer Gerak Pantas

RMAF wants more deadly Hornets
By : Adrian David

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Air Force aims to remain a deterrent force by having fifth generation fighters like the F/A-18E/F Super Hornets.
This will strengthen its capability in protecting the country抯 maritime assets within the exclusive economic zone, including the vital oil and gas assets in the Spratly Islands and the Ambalat oil block off Borneo.

RMAF chief Gen Datuk Seri Azizan Ariffin said, budget willing, the procurement of such multi-role combat aircraft (MRCA) could be done under the 10th Malaysia Plan (2010-2015).

"Failing which, we may increase the acquistion of MRCA like the Sukhoi Su-30MKM, 18 of which have already been procured," he said.

"The first two of the 18 Su-30MKM were handed over to the RMAF last week, while the remaining 16 will be delivered by the year抯 end, in time for the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition."
Azizan said the Sukhois, ordered in 2003 at a cost of RM3.42 billion, would be based with the 11th squadron in Gong Kedak, Kelantan.

"To date, four pilots, two weapons sensor specialists, four engineers and 53 technical crew have completed training for three months in Russia.

"A second batch of crew will be sent to either Russia or India soon," he said at Wisma Pertahanan in Jalan Padang Tembak, in conjunction with the RMAF抯 49th anniversary today.

Azizan said the RMAF was also looking at stealth technology in the near future, to enhance its electronic and non-conventional warfare capability, especially in combating terrorism.

The acquisition of more Sukhois or Hornets will, however, not affect the operations of the existing 18 MiG-29N fighters, he added.

"Although a decade old, the MiG-29Ns are still very useful and can serve up to 30 years with proper maintenance and refurbishment.

"Our ultimate aim is to refurbish and upgrade our combat aircraft every 10 years to remain as a deterrent force, and enhance our surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities."

He said the decision to acquire a mixture of western and eastern bloc fighters was not only to satisfy political aspirations, but took into consideration factors like versatility, transfer of technology, cost, operational effectiveness, availability of spares, logistics support, crew training, the environment and weather.

As part of the RMAF抯 modernisation programme, it would procure four Airbus A400M, 18 Pilatus PC-7 Mk II, ten Aermacchi MB-339CM and five unmanned aerial vehicles.

"We are refurbishing five F-5E and two RF-5 for air tactical reconnaissance, while there is a need for airborne early-warning-and-control aeroplanes and combat search-and-rescue helicopters

"We are also looking at replacing nine of the BAE Systems Hawks that crashed so that we can continue operating with 28 jets," Azizan said.

Two of the A400M transport aeroplanes will be delivered in 2013 and another two a year later, while the MB-339s will be delivered from February 2009, and the UAVs from next year.

"The A400M will also double up as an air tanker, taking over the air-to-air refuelling of the long-range fighter jets from the KC-130 Hercules," he said.

On another note, Azizan said the RMAF spent nearly RM6 million last year to carry out humanitarian and relief missions in Solo and Yogyakarta in Indonesia, and Timor Leste.

"A large part of the defence budget is also spent annually on bilateral and multilateral exercises. This is in addition to the 慐yes in the Sky

teringat wa kisah awal tahun nie bila depa umum penghantaran SU30 to di 'postpone'.  wa rasa sebab depa belum dapat fullus.  no fullus, no plane.

kalo 'postpone' tu disebabkan oleh pengeluar, RMAF tentu dah beriya-iya nak saman sebab late delivery.

Jasa Allahyarham Konstabel Mohd Fakaruddin Dihargai

Yessss, Super Bugs!

If only we've the budget for it in RMK 10 ... well, more Suks as replacement for SuperBugs (should budget become an issue) don't hurt either.

Memang memberansangkan kalau tengok figures di atas. Hawk back to 28, Mig yg patut tinggal 16 dah jadi 18 balik, 10 MB339CM instead of 8 yg disign hari tuh. Apa lagi berita2 kezutan yg public tak tau selama nih, ker ada error in the numbers?
