Premier League - Manchester City humble Arsenal in nine-goal thriller
Premier League, Etihad Stadium – Manchester City 6 (Aguero 13, Negredo 38, Fernandinho 51 & 87, Silva 65, Toure pen. 90+6) Arsenal 3 (Walcott 31, 62, Mertesacker 90+4).

Manchester City put a huge dent in Arsenal’s title ambitions while boosting their own with a remarkable 6-3 win at Eastlands.
A frantic, end-to-end match was settled by goals from Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, Fernandinho (2), David Silva and Yaya Toure, with Theo Walcott scoring twice on his return to the starting XI and Per Mertesacker also on target for Arsenal.
The hugely entertaining affair was marked by some brilliant attacking play by both sides, and lots of slack play at the back, particularly from Arsenal.
Four of City’s goals came directly from poor defending: Aguero’s fine volley was helped by poor marking from Laurent Koscielny, both of Fernandinho’s lovely finishes were the result of Arsenal midfielders giving the ball away, and Toure’s late penalty came when Arsenal simply gave up on closing down their opponents.
Walcott’s opener was also the result of a series of City errors, although his second was a delightful curler.
The result cuts Arsenal’s lead atop the league to three points, although that could be reduced to two by the end of the weekend. City move second for now, although Liverpool and Chelsea will go a point ahead of them if they win their matches.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Fernandinho (City) – Two lovely finishes capped off a busy performance in midfield as the Brazilian got off the mark for his new club.

Ozil sorry for fans snub
Mesut Ozil has apologised for failing to acknowledge fans after Arsenal's 6-3 hammering at Manchester City.
The German playmaker headed straight for the dressing room after the final whistle at the Etihad Stadium while his team-mates went over to applaud travelling supporters.
His actions appeared to incur the wrath of defender Per Mertesacker, who remonstrated with his fellow German as he left the field.
Now Ozil, who has had a huge influence since his deadline-day arrival from Real Madrid, accepts he should not have done as he did.
In a statement on his website, www.mesutoezil.com, the 25-year-old said: "Sorry I didn't thank the fans at the end of the game!
"You have been brilliant to me and I know you had travelled a long way and spent your money to support us.
"I was upset with the result and know I should have come to you to say 'thank you' and I know it is a big Arsenal tradition win, lose or draw."
The defeat at City saw the Gunners' lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League cut to two points. |

A double from Santi Cazorla saw Arsenal record a 2-0 win against Fulham at the Emirates Stadium.
As expected, the league leaders began in the ascendancy and could have been a goal up inside the first minute but Mesut Ozil scuffed his effort following an incisive move.
However, Arsenal failed to push on and were then indebted to the reflexes of Wojciech Szczesny, who had to be alert to palm away a Steve Sidwell volley after 25 minutes.
MAN OF THE MATCH:
Santi Cazorla (Arsenal): A double from the diminutive playmaker to cap another fine, inventive display.

FA Cup - Suarez denied penalty as Arsenal survive Liverpool onslaught to progress
FA Cup fifth round, Emirates Stadium - Arsenal 2 (Oxlade-Chamberlain 16, Podolski 48) Liverpool 1 (Gerrard 60 penalty)
Liverpool's Uruguayan striker Luiz Suarez (R) is brought down by Arsenal's English striker Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (L) during the English FA Cup fifth round football match... |

Luis Suarez was denied a clear-cut penalty as Liverpool dominated the second half of their FA Cup fifth round tie but somehow lost 2-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger's side will meet Everton in the quarter-finals, but the French coach should thank referee Howard Webb for helping his team progress after the match official missed a blatant late challenge by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on Suarez on 63 minutes with Arsenal clinging on grimly to a 2-1 lead.
The home side had moved 1-0 ahead against the run of play when Oxlade-Chamberlain drove the ball into the net for the opening goal from a loose ball before Lukas Podolski added the second three minutes after the break with Oxlade-Chamberlain playing provider.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Lukasz Fabianski (Arsenal): The goalkeeper was the outstanding performer for his side. Made several excellent stops to prevent Liverpool from progressing. Liverpool won this fixture 5-1 at home a week ago, and would have scored five here without the performance of the Arsenal goalkeeper.
PLAYER RATINGS
Arsenal: Fabianski 8; Jenkinson 6, Mertesacker 6, Koscielny 6, Monreal 5; Arteta 5, Flamini 5; Oxlade-Chamberlain 7, Ozil 6, Podolski 6; Sanogo 7...subs: Gibbs 6, Cazorla 6, Giroud 6
Liverpool: Jones 7; Flanagan 6, Skrtel 6, Agger 6, Cissokho 6; Gerrard 7, Allen 6, Coutinho 7, Sterling 7; Sturridge 7, Suarez 8...subs: Henderson 6 |
