Tsuyoshi Kusanagi stars in "Fuyu no Sakura"
Wed, November 10, 2010 (6:11pm EST)
![](http://www.asianbite.com/photos/tsuyoshi-kusanagi_17488.jpg)
SMAP's Tsuyoshi Kusanagi (36) is set to star in a new TBS drama series this winter, titled "Fuyu no Sakura." The heroine role will be played by Miki Imai (47), who has not appeared in a drama series since she starred in "Brand" in 2000.
"Fuyu no Sakura" is described as a pure love story with similarities to the popular Korean drama "Winter Sonata" (titled "Fuyu no Sonata" in Japan). Kusanagi plays a gentle glass craftsman in Yamagata who has no experience in love. Imai plays an older housewife with a husband and daughter who goes on a trip alone to Yamagata, hoping to see sakura trees blooming in winter. She gets into an accident, but is saved by Kusanagi. He ends up tending to her, and the two are soon drawn to each other.
Takeru Sato (21) will play Kusanagi's brother, who left Yamagata and coincidentally worked as a trainee doctor at the hospital run by Imai's husband, played by Masanobu Takashima (44). Rosa Kato (25) will play Sato's girlfriend.
"Fuyu no Sakura" will start in January, airing on Sunday nights at 9:00pm.

Arashi breaks personal record with "Hatenai Sora"
Arashi's 34th single, "Hatenai Sora," is officially confirmed as the top single for this week. The single sold 572,000 copies, surpassing their previous personal record set by their debut song "A-RA-SHI" in 1999 (557,000 copies).
"Hatenai Sora" is the group's 30th number-one single. The only other artists who have reached that milestone are B'z and Ayumi Hamasaki. Arashi achieved it 11 years after their debut, ahead of B'z (14 and a half years) but slightly behind Hamasaki (10 years).
The song also marks Arashi's sixth #1 single for the year, setting a new record for male artists. The previous highest was five, set by The Checkers in 1985 and tied by L'Arc~en~Ciel in 1998. However, Arashi is tied with Ayumi Hamasaki among all artists, as she already achieved six in 2001.

Charts: Arashi, Ikimono Gakari
Arashi set a couple records this week with their latest single "Hatenai Sora," selling 572,000 copies. This easily put them in first place on the weekly charts, while popular electropop group Perfume settled for #2 with their new song "Nee."
Except for AKB48's "Beginner" at #6, the top ten consisted entirely of new singles. J Soul Brothers charted at #3, followed by Yusuke and Korean group KARA. Idol groups Berryz Koubou and Momoiro Clover were #7 and #8 respectively, while Ken Hirai and Alice Nine took the last two spots.
On the album charts, Ikimono Gakari's compilation album "Ikimono Bakari ~Members BEST Selection~" held onto the #1 spot for the second week in a row, adding 207,000 more copies sold. Its sales total after those two weeks is roughly 664,000, surpassing Kana Nishino to become this year's #1 female-vocal album. Overall, it is #2 behind Arashi's "Boku no Miteiru Fuukei."
New releases from Kiyoshi Hikawa and Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi landed at #2 and #3, while Ken Hirai also released a B-side collection to reach #5. The Cro-Magnons had the only other new album in the top ten, placing 7th.
On the DVD charts, Mr.Children's documentary "Mr.Children / Split the Difference" sold 115,000 copies in its first week to take the top spot in the overall rankings. In terms of the music DVD rankings, they now have 8 consecutive number-ones, setting a new record.

Tackey makes an appearance on Tensai Shimura Doubutsuen
On November 20th, Takizawa Hideaki, better known as Tackey from the duo group Tackey & Tsubasa, made a guest appearance on NTV’s “Tensai! Shimura Doubutsuen.”
In the beginning of the show, Tackey introduced his three loving miniature dachshund pets named Hidezo, Hidepita, and Kojiro. After this introduction, Aoki Sayaka questioned Tackey on his friendship with Aiba Masaki from Arashi. They started talking about how Aiba always stayed at Tackey’s house when they were in high school. Tackey commented, “It was troublesome! He stayed at my place everyday, and I had to do the laundry for him too.”
When Aiba commented, “I really didn’t do anything” everyone around him was all surprised. Aiba brought up a story where they invited Yamapi (Yamashita Tomohisa from NEWS) and went to Disney Land because Tackey really wanted to go. Tackey was easily recognized by the fans and Aiba and Yamapi both had to get in between Tackey and the fans. At the time when they were in high school, Tackey was popular for having the leading role on Fuji TV’s drama “Mokuyou no Kaidan” and also appeared on “News no Onna.”
Tackey & Tsubasa will be releasing a new single titled “Ai wa Takaramono” on November 24th.
