Tuesday's Champions League review
GROUP E
Sergio Ramos scored Real Madrid's first goal against Steaua
Lyon maintained their perfect start in Group E with a 3-0 win over bottom side Dynamo Kiev - who are as good as out after losing their first three matches.
Juninho and Kim Kallstrom put Lyon ahead before half-time before Florent Malouda's header completed the scoring.
Real Madrid also impressed on the road, thrashing Steaua Bucharest 4-1.
Sergio Ramos, Raul and Robinho put Real in control and although Valentin Badea pulled one back, Ruud van Nistelrooy's neat chip made sure of victory.
GROUP F
Kenny Miller netted twice as Celtic took a huge step towards qualifying for the knockout stages for the first time with a convincing victory over Benfica.
Stephen Pearson rounded off the scoring to give his side a deserved 3-0 win.
Manchester United comfortably beat FC Copenhagen, with Paul Scholes, John O'Shea and Kieran Richardson all netting in a 3-0 win at Old Trafford.
If Celtic beat Benfica in Portugal in their next game and Manchester United draw in Denmark, both will progress.
GROUP G
Arsenal saw their 100% winning record in Group G disappear as they lost out to CSKA Moscow in Russia.
Daniel Carvalho scored the only goal of the game for CSKA with a powerful free-kick - and they move above the Gunners to the top of the table.
FC Porto claimed their first Champions League win of the season with a thumping 4-1 victory over SV Hamburg.
Lisandro Lopez (2), Lucho Gonzalez and Helder Postiga put Porto in control before Piotr Trochowski's consolation.
GROUP H
Kaka celebrates his winner for AC Milan against Anderlecht
AC Milan stayed top of Group H after Kaka's winner against Anderlecht.
Milan had Daniele Bonera sent off at the start of the second half but they responded well and Kaka smashed home a superb drive to give them the points.
Lille are in second place after they hit two late goals to see off winless AEK Athens 3-1.
Mathieu Robail put Lille ahead before Vladimir Ivic equalised - but Daniel Gygax and Jean Makoun scored in the last 10 minutes for the French side. |

MAN OF THE MATCH
Matchday 3 - Tuesday
Kenny Miller, Robinho and Kak? were among the goals on the opening night of Matchday 3 action and they also scooped some Fan's Man of the Match awards, presented by Vodafone.
Group E: Dynamo Kyiv 0-3 Olympique Lyonnais
Juninho Pernambucano (Lyon)
The brilliant Brazilian continues to impress on the UEFA Champions League stage. He again underlined his status as arguably the best dead-ball specialist in the game with another devastating free-kick for the French side's opener. He also set up Florent Malouda with a pinpoint corner in another majestic display.
Group E: FC Steaua Bucuresti 1-4 Real Madrid CF
Robinho (Madrid)
On the night that David Beckham made his 100th appearance in the competition from the bench, the starter on the right for Madrid was young pretender Robinho. The youngster is finally finding the form that made him such a precocious talent in his native Brazil. He scored a stunning curled effort for Madrid's third, capping a performance of verve and vivacity, passing and probing flicks and feints and flicks.
Group F: Celtic FC 3-0 SL Benfica
Kenny Miller (Celtic)
The Scottish international striker took some time to get off the mark for Celtic but has now found his scoring touch with a vengeance. His two goals tonight, making it three in this season's competition, could be among the most important scored in Celtic's recent history. Both showcased Miller's predatory skills. The first was pure opportunism as he redirected the ball into the net with a toe poke and the second was an assured and clinical finish after some fine link-up play with Shaun Maloney.
Group F: Manchester United FC 3-0 FC K?enhavn
Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)
The Portuguese winger was expected to suffer in England this season after the fallout from his FIFA World Cup meeting with club colleague Wayne Rooney. Instead the youngster has flourished, producing the most consistent football of his fledgling career and more than making up for the dip in form of the aforementioned England tyro. Again against K?enhavn he was at the heart of United's best efforts, always menacing with his direct running and intelligent use of the ball.
Group G: CSKA Moskva 1-0 Arsenal FC
Daniel Carvalho (CSKA)
The star of CSKA's 2005 UEFA Cup success continues to shine in wintry Moscow. The Brazilian crashed home a stunning shot from a well-worked free-kick for the home side's winning goal and threatened throughout with his playmaking and his lethal left foot was a constant threat.
Group G: FC Porto 4-1 Hamburger SV
H?der Postiga (Porto)
The Portuguese international shared the plaudits with Lisandro L?ez who scored twice but the number 9's excellent forward play was the catalyst for Porto's win. The bustling striker was in the thick of the action throughout and capped his display with a fine diving header for his first UEFA Champions League goal.
Group H: RSC Anderlecht 0-1 AC Milan
Kak? (Milan)
The fourth Brazilian Fans' Man of the Match winner on the night, the gifted playmaker continues to impress for Milan. Whether probing through the centre, linking up with his strikers or attacking from the right, he was Milan's main threat on the night. He also trades in stunning goals and his fantastic right-footed shot was a worthy winning goal for any game and, with a slight deflection helping it on its way, certainly a lucky 13th UEFA Champions League goal.
Group H: LOSC Lille M?ropole 3-1 AEK Athens FC
Daniel Gygax (Lille)
The Swiss international produced the perfect cameo performance to put Lille well in contention to advance from Group H. Prior to his arrival as a substitute Lille looked like being unable to get the winner their general play had merited but just four minutes after his introduction he raised the roof at the F?ix-Bollaert Stadium in Lens as he scored a vital goal for Lille and a first UEFA Champions League goal of his career. |
