Red shirt rally expects at least 300,000 to turn up
KUALA LUMPUR: "Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu Demi Maruah Melayu" is expected to gather over 300,000 people from 250 Malay NGOs tomorrow (Sept 16).
Speaking to the media today, spokesperson Datuk Jamal Md Yunos said he also expect some one million to support the event nationwide just by wearing a red shirt tomorrow.
"Over 300,000 people will converge in Padang Merbok tomorrow (sept 16) from four starting points. And we have also gotten the green light from the authorities to carry out the rally from 12 noon to midnight," he said.
Jamal said the four starting points for the rally are National Craft Complex in Jalan Conlay, PWTC, Masjid Wilayah and National Mosque.
Jamal who will lead some 80,000 people from Jalan Conlay, added the activities in Padang Merbuk will be conducted by National Silat Federation (Pesaka), who is also the official organizer for the rally.
Jamal gave assurance that there will be no riots or fights during the gathering and was deploying some 4,000 safety personnel to ensure no untoward incidences take place.
"This is a peaceful rally, we will not be inciting or starting any tension, riot or racial issues. This gathering is just to show the solidarity of the Malays who have been mocked and insulted by the others.
"Stories about provocations and that we will start a fight and scare the traders are all rumours. The police will also be present," he added.
Jamal said unlike Bersih rallies which incited racial hatred by carrying racially-laced slogans, the red-shirt rally will not create enemies with any other races.
"We just want to remind others to respect all races, especially the Malays, who are enshrined in our Constitution. More importantly, haze or rain, we will continue this gathering," he added.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association chief Mohd Ali Baharom said he will bring some 20,000 former commandos and military personnel to join the rally, but will come separately from a secret, fifth location.
Ali, who is famously known as Ali Tinju, also warned that if any Chinese DAP were to provoke or be rude, he will direct his men to face them.
"I don't want to hear about the police or anyone else. This is our right. I'm sure even the police won't be able to handle if there is a clash," he said. |
