Nishikido Ryo to star as himself in drama series “Papa wa Idol”


Kanjani8 member Nishikido Ryo (27) is confirmed to star in a new drama series on TBS this spring. Tentatively titled “Papa wa Idol,” the show will have Nishikido playing himself.

“Papa wa Idol” is a remake of the 1987 drama series “Mama wa Idol,” which starred singer and actress Nakayama Miho (41) as herself. In this version, Nishikido naturally plays the part of Nishikido Ryo, a member of Kanjani8. One day, he meets a single mother of three children, and he suddenly falls in love and gets married. Yuka (31) will play the part of the mother.

The series will also have various other members of Kanjani8 appearing as themselves. 9nine member Kawashima Umika (17) will play the part of the oldest daughter.

There are plans to have the show tied in with TBS news shows, magazines, and other media.

“Papa wa Idol” will air on Thursdays at 9:00pm, beginning this April.

Ryo Nishikido marries a single mother in upcoming drama


Kanjani8 members and even Johnny’s & Associates will pop up in Ryo Nishikido’s next drama series where he will play himself, it was revealed on February 27, reports The TV and Nikkan Sports.

“パパはアイドル！ (Papa wa Idol!)” is a male version of the 1987 drama series “ママはアイドル！ (Mama wa Idol!)”.  The comedy follows pop star Ryo Nishikido, who gets married to a single mother with three kids, and he goes to all lengths to win their acceptance.  However, his talent agency Johnny’s orders that he either must divorce or retire within three months, and if words gets out he is married then he will be asked to retire immediately.

It has been reported Nishikido had said playing himself would be a new experience.
“I feel nervous about it, but I think there’s a lot I can learn.  It’ll be fun shoot it and see the difference between how people see me and how I see myself.”

The Kanjani8 star said he hoped the other members would be themselves, but not too much.
“The other members are coming on as themselves too.  I hope us losers won’t put off the people watching the show…  But I just think it would be best if they all acted as themselves,” he said.

According to some sources at TV company TBS, who are making the drama, the drama will be as true as it can be to Nishikido’s and other pop stars’ real-life schedule.

Other real-life appearances will include actors, talents, and musicians.

Some of the people who will not be making real-life appearances include Kanjani8′s managers.

Finally, with the drama beginning with Ryo Nishikido’s sudden marriage, what are the chances of it happening in real life?
“Honestly, I can’t see it happening.  But when we wrap up the series, I might have something to say about it,” Nishikido said.

Kanjani8 to star in “Eito Ranger” movie

Kanjani8’s popular “Eito Ranger” skits are being turned into a theatrical movie, it has been learned. This will be the first time that the group has starred together in a movie. Director Tsutsumi Yukihiko (“20th Century Boys”) has been attached to the project, which is scheduled for release on July 28 of this year.

The “Eito Ranger” skits, which are performed by Kanjani8 as part of their concerts, involve the members playing superheroes battling against an evil organization. The skits are full of comedy, as they parody other tokusatsu (special effects) hero shows.

The movie will apparently be set in a fictional city in the year 2035. While the story will be a human drama involving their battle against a terrorist organization, the movie will also include side stories for each of the members. In addition, actor Tachi Hiroshi (61) has been cast as a legendary hero named Captain Silver.

Filming for “Eito Ranger” is scheduled to start on March 6.

Higashiyama Noriyuki, Becky join “Eight Ranger” cast


More cast members have been unveiled for Kanjani8’s movie “Eight Ranger,” which was first announced last month. The new additions include Higashiyama Noriyuki in his first villain role and Becky as the story’s heroine.

“Eight Ranger,” also known as “Eito Ranger,” is based on a series of skits that Kanjani8 has performed during their concerts. The skits involve the group’s members playing superheroes who battle an evil organization.

The movie is set in a fictional city in the near future, where the “Eight Ranger” team must fight against a terrorist group known as “Dark Crusade.” Higashiyama will play the villainous leader of that group, whose activities include selling slaves. Meanwhile, Becky will cast aside her usual cheerful image as she plays a female police detective with a dark past.

The other newly announced cast members are Renbutsu Misako as a detective who admires heroes, Takenaka Naoto and Tayama Ryosei as police chiefs, Ishibashi Renji as the chairman of the vigilante “Hero Association,” and Ueshima Ryuhei as a hero candidate.

It was already revealed previously that Tachi Hiroshi will play a legendary hero named Captain Silver.

“Eight Ranger” is scheduled for theatrical release on July 28.

Tackey tells press he doesn’t have a double to help with his 10 character changes in stage show


Johnny’s talent Hideaki Takizawa talked about his hopes for “滝沢歌舞伎 (Takizawakabuki)” on April 9 in Tokyo as the stage show started its new season, reports News 24.

“滝沢歌舞伎 (Takizawakabuki)” was first performed on stage in 2006, and is now being performed in Tokyo until May for its 2012 season.  April 16′s night show will mark the 300th time Takizawa has performed his show which includes 10 quick character changes as Takizawa plays historical figures like Yoshitsune and Benkei.  It has been reported in the first show of the year Takizawa was changing into the characters faster than he was last year, prompting some of the press to ask the talent if he had a double to help out.

“No I don’t.  It’s all me.  I’m seeing how much my body can do and I’m having fun,” Takizawa said.

The show’s cast features talents from Kansai Johnny’s Jr. for the first time.

“It’s a new ‘Takizawakabuki’.  The Kansai power is so amazing, they’re really hungry for things to do.  It might even turn into a ‘Kansai-kabuki’ show.  I will do my best to make sure they don’t overtake the show though.  I hope that inside of me, I can stay as young as the junior talents,” he said.

On the topic of age, this season will be the first time for Takizawa to perform in in his 30s.

“I’m happy.  No matter how many years have gone by, people still come to see it.  I think it’s thanks to the fans that the show has evolved,” he said.

Tackey & Tsubasa To Provide New Song for Disney On Ice Musical


Popular idol duo, Tackey & Tsubasa, will provide a new song for "2012 Disney on Ice , Mickey and Minnie's Princes & Heroes". In the press conference held last May 9th, Tackey & Tusbasa showed the PV for their new song, "WonderlanDream", which will be used as the final song for the said musical. Moreover, the Johnny's duo will act as Minnie's supporters.

Takizawa Hideaki expressed his enthusiasm from being chosen to provide the song. He said that it was his childhood dream to participate in Disney Productions and he viewed Disney as a place where dreams come true. While Tsubasa Imai shared that he enjoys Disney shows since his niece loves Ariel of Little Mermaid.

In a related news, Tackey announced during the curtain call of his last show [Senshuraku] that he will be doing a national solo tour this summer, while Tsubasa will be doing "Playzone". No additional details were revealed.

Nanao and Nakamaru Yuichi would star in Omoni naitemasu (Mostly Crying), Fuji TV drama starting in July, Thu, 23:10~23:55

Nakamaru plays Akamatsu Keisuke, a 4th year attending Tokyo University of Fine Arts, in this manga Fuji TV drama adaptation. Keisuke is a student who is filling in for a month as an instructor at the studio 'Atelier jin'. The main character of Konno Izumi is played by Nanao. Izumi is a "beautiful life drawing model tormented with the unrelenting curse of her excessive beauty." In order for others - including part-time teacher Keisuke - to keep from falling for her, she does various strange cosplays. Though aware of her beauty, to keep order in the class, Keisuke lies and says he's gay.

Kanjani 8's Maruyama Ryuhei to play lead role in TV Asahi drama, �Boys on the Run�



Kanjani 8's Maruyama Ryuhei will be playing his first lead role in TV Asahi's upcoming drama series, �Boys on the Run�.

Maruyama will play the role of Tanishi Toshiyuki, a 27-year-old man who has never had a girlfriend. He revealed, �I feel that I can relate to the protagonist Tanishi Toshiyuki. My face also turns red when I become nervous.� He also expressed, �I've been given this chance, so I will give it everything I have! I want to run with �Boys on the Run�!�

�Boys on the Run� is based on a popular manga by Hanazawa Kengo, which was serialized in the magazine, �Big Comic Spirits�. It received a film adaptation back in 2010 starring Mineta Kazunobu. The story revolves around Tanishi Toshiyuki, a hopeless 27-year-old businessman who works for a toy making company. He falls in love with his colleague Uemura Chiharu, but isn't able to make a move. One day, an elite salesman named Aoyama Takahiro approaches Chiharu and a relationship starts to blossom.

Taira Airi will play Tanishi's gym trainer Oiwa Hana, Minami Akina will play Chiharu, and Saito Takumi will play Aoyama. Ueda Tatsuya (KAT-TUN), Jinnai Takanori, Sato Eriko, and Asada Miyoko will also star.

Maruyama made his drama debut in �Uta no Oniisan� back in 2009. He commented, �I'm excited to be able to challenge myself to something new again. Even if I'm not good at it, I want to do my best recklessly.�

TV Asahi will air �Boys on the Run� every Friday night from 11:15 pm starting in July.

Kanjani 8’s PV preview for upcoming single “Ai Deshita.” (releasing on June 13th) has been revealed. This is the theme song for Nishikido Ryo’s TBS drama ‘Papadol!‘

On the TOKYO MX’s news program ‘CHECK TIME‘, the preview was revealed along with information on Kanjani 8’s 8th anniversary commemorative events, ’Fan Gratitude CD Special Free Event‘ and ‘8 Festival ~Bokuramo 8cchai, 8cchake Matsuri~‘, in August.

‘Fan Gratitude CD Special Free Event’, will be held on August 8 at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka. Purchasers of their upcoming song “Ai deshita.”, releasing on June 13, and their follow-up single will have a chance to be selected as one of the 40,000 people to participate in the event for free.

Furthermore, ‘8 Festival ~Bokuramo 8cchai, 8cchake Matsuri~’, will be held at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in Chiba on August 4 to 5 and Intex Osaka on August 10 to 12. Although this is not a free event, approximately 200,000 fans are expected to show up to these venues.

It was also revealed that the members of Kanjani8 will personally plan, draft, and organize the anniversary events. Regarding their 8th anniversary event, Shibutani Subaru (30) commented, “I hope these events will convey the gratitude we have to our fans!”

Kanjani8′s Shota Yasuda gets first lead role in drama



Shota Yasuda will be making his drama lead debut by fighting a dragon in the fantasy drama series ”ドラゴン青年団 (Dragon Seinen-dan)“, it was announced on May 31, reports Daily Sports Online.

It has been reported the drama follows a group of bored teenagers who waste their time in a cafe, until one day when a dragon appears around Tokyo tower and the group get up on their feet to try and defeat the dragon.  In this video game-like, comedy drama Yasuda will play a 光の戦士 (Warrior of Light) who also lacks any motivation.

The real Yasuda, however, is very excited about his new drama.

“The atmosphere is really enjoyable.  I feel like I’m skipping around.  I think this’ll be a really interesting story,” he said.

It has been reported Yasuda promised he would show his character’s lazy side every week, especially in the weekly scene where the group meet in their regular cafe.

“I hope I can give out a lazy vibe.  I think that’ll be the highlight of the show,” he said.

The drama’s director will be Takahiro Miki, who also directed Johnny’s talent Toma Ikuta’s movie “僕等がいた (Bokura ga Ita)”.

The drama’s cast so far includes Misako Renbutsu, Kaname Endo, Chikara Honda, and Yusuke Santamaria.

“ドラゴン青年団 (Dragon Seinen-dan)” starts on July 17.

Shingo Murakami’s soccer supporter dream comes true



Kanjani8′s Shingo Murakami talked about the soccer supporter job he had been waiting 10 years for during ”朝ズバッ！ (Asa-zuba!)” on June 1.

It has been reported Murakami has been chosen as TV company TBS’s special navigator for the UEFA EURO 2012, which kicks off on June 8.

“I’d always been saying I was a soccer fan since I was in Kansai Johnny’s Jr., before Kanjani8 began.  But then (TOKIO’s) Taichi Kokubun would cover the World Cup for TBS and everything else so I never got a chance…  But you could say my dream for the past 10 years has come true, and now I can finally be a part of soccer,” Murakami said.

TACKEY & TSUBASA to release fan-selected best album for 10th anniversary



To celebrate their upcoming tenth anniversary Tackey & Tsubasa have begun a special project.

Since making their CD debut with the album “Hatachi” on September 11, 2002, Tackey & Tsubasa have released three original albums, one mini-album, one best-of album, and thirteen singles to date.

Fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite song from these works, and the most popular will be compiled onto a best-of request album scheduled for release this fall. They’ll be able to vote once a day on a special website set up for the event on which they can listen to previews of each song to make sure they’re voting for their favorites.

Tackey & Tsubasa plan to announce more special plans to celebrate their big anniversary. Their official label website even includes a countdown until the date of their debut, September 11, 2012.
